I’ve Stopped Worrying About My Instagram Feed & I’m Finally Loving It

I’ve gone through such a love hate relationship with Instagram, as a blogger it is one of the most frustrating things, but do you know what, I’m in such a good place with it right now, that I’m finally just enjoying it. At the end of the day it is just a platform like any other, you share your posts, your life, any thoughts and feelings, but there is something so difficult about it. It is one of the most inspiring and frustrating platforms, but I’ve got to admit I’m in a really good place with it right now.

So how am I in such a good place with this platform? I’ve got to be honest it has taken a while to get there, but here is how.

Taking Time Off

Now even though with Instagram you need to be consistent with your posting to get anywhere, I actually took time off posting anything at all, I wasn’t sure what kind of direction I wanted to go in, what I really wanted to post anymore. So I took some time away, continued to engage with people, and figure out what direction I wanted to take myself in. Of course, my Instagram is still a mixture of absolutely everything, I could never post about 1 specific thing, because that isn’t my thing if I’m honest, but I feel like I know where I want to be going with my Instagram now.

Not Everything Has To Be Perfect

When it comes to Instagram you expect every shot to be perfect. By that I mean the perfect lighting, the perfect skin, the perfect sunrise/sunset, the perfect background, and to be honest it doesn’t have to be perfect, sometimes the imperfections are genuinely what make a photo. Whether it is a spot that genuinely won’t go down, or showing your slightly rounded stomach (like me) perfection is bloody boring. I’m a perfectionist at heart and this is one I have struggled to learn to be honest.

Posting What You Love Makes The World Of Difference

This one sounds so simple but it really isn’t. Instagram basically makes you believe that what you post isn’t Instagram worthy, and it will make the decision as to what your followers see, and it is tough, but to be honest as long as you love what you post, everything will work out in the end. I’ve changed what I am posting slightly, I am not letting Instagram make me feel like what I post isn’t good enough, because I’m enjoying creating, I’m enjoying the creative aspect of the platform and it works wonders for me.

Surround Yourself With People Who Inspire You To Create

I’ve been very selective about who I decide to follow in Instagram, and I want to follow people who not only inspire me to create but people I can relate to. Being able to relate to someone definitely helps me when it comes to the platform and you should feel like you are able to get to know someone through a post and that is something I try and do through my posts. I don’t think I do it particularly well at the moment but I am definitely working on it.

The point of this post is Instagram is just a platform, it is supposed to be fun, like most social media. It isn’t a competition, it is something there to be enjoyed. An Instagram feed should not define your worth as a person and shouldn’t make you not want to be on the platform. I’m finally in a better place with my Instagram and it feels so bloody good. You can be too!

That’s the best approach. It’s such a hard platform. I’ve just about accepted that growth is virtually impossible.

  • I did this a month or so ago and started posting things because I actually enjoyed doing so and my Instagram has improved SO MUCH x

    I couldn’t agree more!

I’ve stopped obsessing over mine too. I used to post every day and now I’m lucky if I post once a week.
I wasted so much time trying to plan it all out but now I just post when I want if I have something to share 😊

    Love Lozza xo

I feel you. You end up spending more time thinking about how to please other people you lose yourself in the process 🙁

These are some great tips for learning to love Instagram again. I know I feel much better about mine when I’m focusing on things I love. And understandably these are the posts that get the most love too.

Absolutely love the layout of your blog! And the photography!

I found I spent too much time on Instagram obsessing over my own feed that I wasn’t making the most of it!

For now I’m focussig just on Twitter & Blogging!

  • I totally agree with you, Instagram can be such a great platform, but also frustrating with all the constant changes! I still love creating content for it though, it is definitely something you have to love!

  • THis completely resonates with me – I had a to take a bit of time off too (quite a bit to be honest) because the fun had left me and it just became work, and that wasn’t working out! Thank you for sharing your experience.

  • Jaya says:

I hope others will catch onto this, and live life as it was meant to be lived; full of inspiration and joy. So many feeds are filtered to show only the upside of life, and that creates a downside where people who do not have picture-worthy lives everyday feel as if they are doing something wrong!

It is about sharing what you like, not what is trending.

  • Boxnip says:

You’re so right, too many people are just way too competitive on Instagram! It should be fun and enjoyable. 😀

  • OMG this is exactly how I’ve been feeling lately. It’s like we are a slave to Instagram with what to post, when to post, how to edit it so it looks perfect, etc. I went out of the country for a week and got nervous because nothing was getting posted. I’m glad to see someone else went through the same struggles and has decided to stop stressing and just enjoy it! Hoping I can do the same. 😊
