How A Break From Social Media Has Changed My Perspective

I’ve not been online much lately, I mean I still have been posting, and I recently also talked about how I’ve been struggling with blogging guilt. A break has been so good for my overall wellbeing if I’m totally honest. Social media sometimes can be all consuming and I’ve really wanted to start living in the moment more and appreciating time with my husband.

After a long day or long week, sometimes the last thing that I really want to do is be on social media. I mean I am sometimes when I feel like it, but honestly lately I’ve really not been in the mood to do it. My main thing when I get home is eating, having a shower and having massive cuddles with BB-8, those have been my priorities.

The break from social media has really helped me if I’m honest.

Over the last few months trying to juggle the blog, my commitments for my blog, family life, my husband, my gorgeous BB-8 and everything else I’ve struggled. So having a break has definitely helped me to find myself, helped me to find my balance and my creativity all over again. It has given me a whole new perspective on everything on my life, on what I want from my blog, and where I am wanting to go with my blog in the future.

I needed an injection of creativity in my life, because if I’m totally honest I was really struggling to find the motivation and to will to blog. I was really lucky that I had some pre-written content that I had scheduled for when I do have these moments. So a break really did help me to find my passion for blogging again.

I’ve realised that if I’m not in the mood to post, I genuinely don’t have to, my blog is my own personal space to write about whatever I want when I feel like it and what my passion really is in life.

Not only that, I have found my passion for reading again, I’ve continued to learn my calligraphy and I am beyond excited to find my other passions too. My blog doesn’t have to be my only hobby at the end of the day.

I feel like my heart is a little lighter, there isn’t as much pressure on myself and I feel like I am able to fill my life with so many other things. Social media is supposed to be fun, and before the break it felt like a chore, and I hate it when anything that I love feels like a chore.

I am now starting to fall in love with my social media all over again, I’m posting when I want (besides my scheduled tweets which are always done) and I am in a much happier place.

Have you taken a break lately or are you starting to feel like you might actually need a break? Let me know in the comments

  • I’ve never taken a full break but I’ve definitely gone through periods of being a lot less active when I haven’t wanted to be there and always have a few back up posts ready to be scheduled if I’m ever not feeling it. I’m glad the break has done some good and you’re enjoying it again x

This is one of the main reasons that I stopped blogging for almost a year, I think it’s really possible to get almost obsessive with it and stats etc and you just have to walk away sometimes to become inspired again x

  • I rarely take social media breaks but when I do I always feel refreshed!

That’s truely amazing! Especially when I’m on holidays, I find it so easy to just get stuck in a vicious circle of endless scrolling. I have also been reading more and drawing on my iPad, which is super relaxing😊🙌🏻

  • Love this, having a break can really help, I know they have helped me so much in gaining my focus again and finding perspective. When you interact with social media when you want to it feels like less of a chore and more enjoyable. If we allow ourselves the break, it can improve our thinking towards social media.

This was such a great post, I always feel guilty if I take a break from blogging but then I realise that I started my blog to write about things that I love and it takes the pressure off! X

I love this! I totally get how taking a break from social media can put things into perspective. I just stayed off of social media for one day, and even that was a HUGE relief! I’m glad you were able to find your creativity again and focus more on things in real life, like your family and husband and yourself. Social media is fun, but sometimes it’s just too much and you need a break. I’m glad you listened to yourself and took the break when you needed it!

It is good that a break served you good! I found breaks from social media being super helpful with the detoxing of everything, even expectations. Glad you are feeling better towards social media again. I took a little Twitter break last year and found it super helpful!

  • Yesss! I always have a break after Christmas that is planned and I sometimes have one in June that is less-planned because I hate letting things get all on top of me! They always help me regain focus!

I’ve kind of taken a break recently as I was recovering from laser eye surgery but I always feel guilty for taking a break x

  • Lauren says:

Love this! I can totally relate to not having the urge to blog or be on social media at times – and the pressure to always be creating new content can certainly get too much. Glad you are back and feeling more motivated now though!

I quite often take breaks from social media, apart from scheduled tweets. My Instagram has really taken a back seat of late. I go days between posts quite often. I think sometimes it is just needed. :0
