Why We Need Consistent Sizing In Fashion

Clothes shopping and body confidence go hand in hand. I know there is a few places I know I can’t shop because I know before even going in there, nothing will fit. Being plus size still has it’s struggles even if it has really got easier to find plus size clothes in the last few years. However, fit is still a huge issue facing the fit of the clothes.

Regardless of your gender, shape or your size it is a struggle for us all.

I recently bought a new pair of jeans, same style, same size, from the same place, and there was a massive difference in size. They didn’t even fit. I did the normal jeans dance we do to try and get into jeans. Why didn’t they fit? I was so confused.

My confidence took a massive hit. Of course clothes do stretch out, especially jeans, but the difference in size was too much to be just from being worn.

So what had changed? I had so many questions, but it got me thinking!

What about other brands?

I have a drawer full of jeans, I wish I was joking. So, I decided to get different pairs out from various brands, and laid them out on the floor. They were all the same size, and the difference was astounding.

Each pair was a different size. Different sizes around the calf, the thigh, and waist. Fair enough, some may have stretch in them, some may not, but where is the consistency?

We are all guilty of putting our bodies down, I do it. But when we try on clothes that are supposed to be in our size, when they don’t fit, it can be damaging to our confidence.

I’m a big advocate for the fact that clothes labels are just a number, but it can be so hard when clothes don’t fit. Especially when they’re supposed to be our size!

Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes but by having consistent measurements, will help

Why do we need consistency though?

By giving people like you and I consistency it allows us:

• to work on our self confidence
• to give us more confidence going into a store and buying clothes.
• love our body more
• to have a more positive shopping experience
• to know exactly what size we should be buying.

I know it isn’t always as simple as looking at consistent sizing throughout stores. There are things we really need to work on such as:

• how we feel about our body
• treating our bodies with kindness
• appreciating everything our body does for us on a daily basis
• learning from bad body confidence days (because we genuinely can’t avoid them!)
