10 Life Lessons For A More Positive Life

Life has definitely been hard over the last year, but now with there being some light at the end of the tunnel regarding the pandemic, I’m feeling hopeful. With this however, there are a few life lessons that I’ve learned over the last year that I feel we can all appreciate and benefit from. Are you ready to find out what life lessons we all need to hear?

01. Forgive yourself and others

Forgiveness isn’t something that comes easily to me, and forgiving people, even when they have done so much wrong, but it is so cleansing for the mind, body and soul. Sometimes, people don’t mean to upset you, or hurt you, they may even disappoint you, but this is normal, not everyone can be who you want them to be. Forgiveness is hard and a massive journey, but a necessary journey to embark on.

02. You will make mistakes

This is something that has come up lately that I’m still not 100% comfortable with, mistakes will always happen, but you need to stop feeling so guilty about it. Mistakes make you human, we aren’t robots, we have external pressures that cause us to have our mind elsewhere, but we can pick ourselves up and power through.

03. Being kind is a must

If there is something that we all learned from the last year is that kindness is a must. Kindness goes such a long way, and if you can only do one thing, in this life, it is be kind. It doesn’t matter how nasty, or rude someone may be to you, how you react is always more important. Your kindness, support and help can sometimes be one of the things that make the biggest difference to someone, especially right now.

04. Practice gratitude daily

This is something I am so passionate about, mainly because I feel like gratitude can make all the difference, and I write down everything that I’m grateful for, no matter how small it may be. It could something like you woke up today and had a shower, that is a huge thing for someone who is genuinely struggling. Remember it doesn’t have been a huge thing.

05. Everything happens for a reason

I’ve always been a firm believer in this, even when I used to post all the quotes on my photos on Facebook back in the day, and it is so true, because it really does. The good things and the bad things happen because you can handle anything that comes your way. From the bad things we can learn and we can also take lessons from the good. Learn, grow, understand and move forward, even if we don’t want them to happen, life will throw curveballs, and we take things as they come.

06. Surround yourself with people you love

I’ve got to be honest, over the last few years, I’ve truly realised who my friends are. I can count on one hand the people I speak to from school and they’re still my best friends, but I’ve also made new friends from the blogging world and I know they are with me 100%. Nadia from Miel and Mint and Sian from Sian Kathrine to name a couple, finding people who you know will be there through your most difficult times is so important, and I’m so grateful for them.

07. Most things you’re worrying about won’t happen

I’m definitely such a worrier. I worry all of the time about the smallest thing and then I will  turn something that initially was a small situation, into a massive problem and it will make me lose sleep. But in all honesty most of these situations are your mind playing tricks on you, causing you to worry for no reason. Don’t let a small situation ruin your happiness.

08. You don’t know what someone is going through

We all need to take this into account and be more to be aware of it. We might not be able to see our loved ones right now, video calling can hide a lot, and we can hide behind a text message, you can sometimes have no idea how people are doing. Be openminded, be calm, start conversations, and don’t jump to conclusions, and if someone isn’t that great and doesn’t want to talk right now, give them time.

09. Stop underestimating yourself

I’ve done this a lot lately, but be honest with yourself you really can achieve anything you put your mind to. Do not stop yourself from achieving what you want in life. Do the course, make a life choice and do not let anyone tell you that you can’t do it, or you’re not smart enough or strong enough to do it because you are.

10. Do what makes you happy

Finding joy in the pandemic has honestly been hard, but it is so important to find things that genuinely make you happy, whether this be reading a book, finding a new hobby, or just do something that you’ve always wanted to. Your happiness is always so important and no matter what you do, and if someone doesn’t like it? Well that is their problem.

These are such important things that I’ve learned, and I hope you have too! Let me know if there are any life lessons that you’ve learned over the last year in the comments!

  • Love these Amie! The last one especially! I think as bad as this last years been, it’s definitely taught me to be a little bit selfish and to do things for me, things that make me happy! I’m such a worrier too & often make up the worst situations in my head that when it comes to it are so so far from the truth.

These are such good things to focus on and definitely something I’ll be making more of an effort with, especially the worrying one. Thank you, lovely – great post!

Hugely important lessons here. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, sometimes that reason will not be clear for a really long time but it will eventually and everything in between will suddenly make sense.

  • I need to remember to forgive myself! I forgive others, but when it comes to myself I often have so much guilt for small things- and I need to learn to let things go. We all make mistakes, and do things we regret as we mature- and that’s okay 🙂 thank you for sharing x

This is lovely, Amie. Numbers 1, 5, and 7 resonate with me most right now – but finding joy in the little things is definitely something I’ve learned to do over the last 12 months! x

  • So many important practices here and I’ll admit, I’m terrible at following them myself. But I think the big ones for me right now is to start accepting that I’ll make mistakes and stop underestimating myself cause it then causes me to hold myself back so much. Thank you for writing and sharing this – just what I needed right now.

  • These are all such great suggestions. I am a big worrier when it comes to the health of those I love and am working on letting some of this go. Thanks for sharing.
