6 Boundaries I’m Creating in 2021

There are 8 boundaries I’m creating for myself this year, and I think it is definitely something we all need to be better at. With most of us working from home, and missing loved ones, I feel like we all need to create better boundaries. This year I genuinely want it to be the year where I work on my own self development, my own positivity and wellness. I’ve also set up a brand new Instagram handle for my newest venture and hashtag @findingpositivitydaily which is going to be all about sharing the good vibes!

01. Protecting My Energy

Energy is so important to protect, you do not want negative people in your life, bringing you down, making you miserable, it is honestly not worth it. You need to surround yourself with people who lift you up, add positivity to your life, motivate you to achieve what you want in life and inspire you to do better. Those are the people I genuinely want in my life.

02. Time Boundaries

Your time is valuable and there is nothing more important than making the most of that time. Give yourself permission to press pause, give yourself permission to say no to people, and do not waste time on things that do not bring you joy. I’ve been filling my time with things I enjoy such as calligraphy, journaling, playing Sims and just enjoying my life.

03. Emotional Boundaries

This one is incredibly important to me, as someone who struggles with anxiety and depression making sure that I surround myself with people who take it seriously, respect my emotions and they don’t make me feel like my feelings are invalid. Those are the kind of people I need in my life. I’m so grateful to have amazing family and friends who support me through the most difficult times, they’re the people I need more than anything.

04. Work / Life Balance Boundaries

I’ve previously written a whole blog post on this topic, however, I feel like working from home means the line between work and home is slightly blurred. So I feel like it is even more important to work on these boundaries. There are lots of way you can set better boundaries, but it is important that you find ways that work for you.

5 ways for a better work / life balance

05. Internal Boundaries

People always say you have to develop a thicker skin, but I think personally instead of developing a thicker skin, it is to be more aware of what people are saying and the way they are saying it. If someone is saying something constructively, that could be something that could help us to improve, if they’re saying it to be mean, then they’re genuinely not your kind of person. You do not need that person in your life.

06. Physical Boundaries

This one is important given the current pandemic, and recently someone invaded my 2m social distancing and I made it clear to them that they needed to step back. They were actually okay with that, but people need to be aware of personal space. I’ve also not been sharing as much online in terms of my private life. People will be aware of what happened last year, so I am making sure to be a bit more private in terms of what is going on in my life, and just enjoying the moment, rather than sharing every moment online.

What boundaries are you setting yourself? Let me know in the comments!

  • I’ve had to really work on my emotional boundaries recently. Great post, these are all so important.

  • Rachael says:

Love your blog so much! This is such a good post. I also suffer with anxiety and I can really relate to the emotional boundaries. It is so important. xx

  • Wow I love these suggestions! I think boundaries are so important, and the one about protecting your energy is particularly important. I find it hard when people question my choices, or make me doubt myself- so this year I’m trying to have more confidence in myself and what I’m doing, and putting a space between myself and people who doubt me 🙂

  • Steph Hannam says:

Since working from home I think everyone’s work/life boundaries have merged into one. It’s so important to have a proper split so you can turn off after a day of working otherwise you never have any downtime x

  • Eleanor says:

Too bad we only think about physucal boundaries when we hear the word, but there are so more important ones. Your post really got me thinking about doing the same thing myself. Thank you for sharing.

  • Love all of these Amie! So important to set these boundaries within our life. I’ve been working on boundaries a lot recently and it’s been a game changer x

  • Chrissy says:

I love how you included time boundaries. This is something I’m currently working on but it feels great to be able to have some time for myself. x

  • Claire Lomax says:

I love this post Amie, I have to say your recent blog posts have been incredible! I will be popping over to Instagram to follow your journey, can’t wait to see how amazing you do x x

  • I love this as it’s a really important part of taking care of our own mental & emotional health (I wrote a post on this not too long ago called ‘Setting Personal Boundaries’). It’s something that I think everyone should be aware of and work at as part of our overall self-care — I really like the boundaries you have explained here!

  • Lindsey says:

Oh I love this – such an important post. Will definitely be checking out your Instagram and finding the positivity is a must-have right now. Definitely going to be trying to apply some of these myself – thank you!

  • Thanks for sharing your boundaries for this year 🙂

  • saTanja says:

We should all start doing this for our own good despite people around us labelling us selfish for it

  • Em says:

I love this! Setting and sticking to boundaries is so important. I am especially focusing on protecting my emotional energy, and will be making sure I direct my time and energy to those who bring me joy, as well as those that make the effort to do the same. If lockdown has taught me one thing, its that I have no need for one sided friendships.

    Em
