5 Things I’ve Stopped Apologising For And You Should Too

I always seem to find myself apologising, I mean no matter what I do I seem to apologise. I seem to be the person that apologises for everything, no matter if it is something that I can actually control, I apologise. I do the same at home and when I’m blogging, my in laws always tell me off for apologising. But now I’m saying enough is enough, I’m gonna stop apologising for everything unless I’ve actually done something wrong. So what should we all stop apologising for?

1. AD’s

I’m was scrolling through Instagram stories the other day, and someone said sorry that they had 2 ad’s going up that week, I can’t remember who it was (my memory is shocking) and I thought, why are they apologising? If you’re getting paid to be creative, post amazing content then go for it, don’t feel guilty for doing it, keep going. Be proud of your hard work, keep going and enjoy every penny.

I haven’t done many AD’s this year, but if I did I wouldn’t apologise for them, they pay for my pizza, that makes me happy.

2. Being Yourself

Lately I’ve been really finding my voice, finding what I want to do, where I want to be and just generally what direction I’m going in. You should never apologise for being yourself, especially when it comes to sharing your voice and your passions. My passion right now is my blog and learning calligraphy, I’m so passionate about it and I feel like I’m going in the right direction.

If someone ever stops you from being yourself, tries to stop you from following your dreams, don’t let them stop you.

3. Cutting People Out Of Your Life

I’ve done this a lot lately, I’ve cut out a of people, I actually wrote a massive post on it here but you should never have to apologise for cutting these people out of your life. These people can sometimes suck the life out of you and literally drain everything from you and you shouldn’t have to apologise for that.

Why should you prioritise other people’s happiness above your own? It doesn’t work like that and it shouldn’t. So put yourself first, do what makes you happy, and don’t apologise for it.

4. PR Samples

If you’re a blogger you will understand this one. When I first started I used to apologise for getting samples, I mean I still got a lot but I shouldn’t have to apologise for it. When it comes to samples I try my best to share some with my family or give them to charity if they haven’t been used because people can get more use out of them than I can.

If a brand believe in your content, believes in what you create, then why should you apologise? Enjoy it. Appreciate everything and enjoy finding new brands!

5. Taking Time Away

I recently wrote a whole blog post on taking time away from Twitter, you can read that here, and I genuinely felt guilty for taking time off but do you know what it was so necessary. I felt like Twitter was really bringing me down, I was in such a negative headspace with it, and taking a break was the only thing that would actually help and do you know what it kinda did!

If you’re feeling overwhelmed you shouldn’t have to apologise for it, do what you need to, it’s so important to! I took time away and it was the best thing I did!

Are there things you need to stop apologising for? Let me know in the comments!

  • Love this post. So true that we sometimes apologise for things we shouldn’t. Good for you xx

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Thank you my darling, there’s so much we shouldn’t be apologising for! xxxx

  • Michelle says:

I always feel like I have to apologise whenever I take a week or more off of blogging. I know deep down most people will understand so I really shouldn’t need to but I feel somewhat rude if I take a break and not address immediately with an apology.

I also feel uncomfortable when I talk about my Etsy shop. I don’t want to sound like I’m pressuring people to buy from my shop or give me money but it’s difficult for creative people to make money. ♥

It’s so hard but I think cutting people out who no longer bring anything but negativity to your life is so important. xx

It really is, and it’s such an important step! xxxx

Great post, definitely shouldn’t apologising for taking time away. I always see so many bloggers saying sorry because they haven’t been active for the day or a few days and it’s totally fine to take a break, it’s important to look after ourselves 🙂

I did that the other month, I took time away from Twitter and it really helped me, but I still apologised! xxxx

  • Tiffany says:

Yes to all of these! I find myself apologing for so many things when there’s no need! I’m totally with you on the cutting people out one, I’ve cut ties with a few people now and whilst it was hard it’s made my life much easier. Sometimes it’s for the best and we have to put ourselves first xx

This such a good post, if I have a few ad posts going up I do try to space them out and I don’t really know why! Need to stop doing that! Xx

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Post when you want, your posts are amazing my darling! xxxx

  • Hannah says:

Such an important post. We all need to learn that there is no sense in being apologetic about something that adds value to our lives or helps strip out some of the negatives.

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Exactly Hannah, couldn’t have put it better myself! xxxx

  • Gary says:

Couldn’t agree with these more! Especially the ad one. I haven’t done any ads but I certainly wouldn’t apologise for it! Cool post definitely need to be reminded of these often!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I think if you’re earning money from it, earn that money and enjoy it! xxxxx

  • Imani Nikkol says:

I love this post girl !
Never ever ever apoligize for being who you are to anyone. Their response to you is their problem , not your own !

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Exactly, you should never be anything other than yourself! xxxx

  • Chloe says:

I agree. We apologise for things that maybe we don’t need to apologise because we are embarrassed or ashamed of something little and that we don’t need to apologise for. I do this a lot especially in my job and afterwards, I always realise that it was something I overreacted too and apologised when I didn’t need too. I felt for bad for something I did that wasn’t bad and I didn’t need to be sorry for.

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I think sometimes we are overly wary of what we do and we don’t want to offend anyone, I’m the same! xxxx

  • Such a great and much needed post Amie – I agree with all of them, especially the cutting people out one, so often you feel guilty but if someone is toxic or constantly spreading negative energy then there’s no reason to have them in your space. Also whenever I see people apologising for having Ads up, I always make a point to support them, for some people that’s their only source of income so why not spread some love. x

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Supporting people’s AD’s is so important, they work so hard on the content and they’re earning money which is an added bonus! xxxx

  • Kayla says:

I love this post, it’s so true! I ALWAYS seem to apologise for taking time away from things like social media or blogging! ♥︎

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

No one should apologise for taking time away, it’s necessary sometimes! xxxx

  • Eleanor May says:

Yes to all of these! I’m the type of person who says sorry for everything I do. I need to stop being so apologetic. Great post!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I think it’s something we can all learn to be honest! xxxx

  • Kate says:

I definitely apologise too much and feel bad when I take time out. It’s good to realise everyone feels that way and that we then obviously shouldn’t feel that way.

  • This is a great list. Starting out can be intimidating, but learning how to be fully authentic as you progress seems like an important part of blogging. Thank you for this post! Just what I needed today. 🙂

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I’m so glad you liked this post my darling! xxxxx

  • Jess says:

I love this and it’s all so true! Being a blogger it’s an honour to get asked to review products, receive PR samples and create ads it shows you that companies like your work and appreciate your effort so we definitely shouldn’t apologise for it! I also wrote a post on feeling like a bad blogger when I take time off from my blog but the fact is your loved ones won’t be there to spend time with forever, you can always come back to your blog so make those memories and cherish them! Great post lovely!

  • Love this! I have such a bad habit of apologising for ads and I really need to stop.

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Don’t worry my darling, post your ads and be proud of your work! xxxx

  • Love and agree with every word of this. Ads and PR samples are something that we should all be happy about and proud of. It’s such a shame that so many people apologise for them! I saw someone recently (also have a shocking memory and can’t remember who) say they didn’t want to share a post containing gifted items too much in case people thought they were being paid. It made me so sad!

  • I borrowed He Said She Said from the library the other day – can’t wait to read! Great post, I wrote something similar to this a few years ago about things we should all stop apologising for and writing it actually felt silly like, I can’t believe we apologise for this rubbish? xxx

It’s such a good book my darling, I’m loving it! We all do it though don’t we, we are all guilty of it! xxxx

I need to keep apologising for not being sociable or having to take time away from things when I’m going through a relapse or flare-up. I know I shouldn’t need to apologise for not being well enough yet I still do it. 🙂

I can totally understand why you do my darling, but don’t apologise for not being well enough my angel, it’s not your fault! xxxx

  • Lindsey says:

Oh my gosh, I felt so guilty when I took some time off from blogging earlier in the year and yet, not only did I need it, I was more motivated than ever when I came back. Why on earth was I apologising for that?! This is a great post – very uplifting. Definitely should do what you need to do, whether it’s running ads or taking a break, regardless of others.

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I think time away really does motivate you, it gives you a massive refresh doesn’t it? xxxx

  • Lady Writes says:

    I don’t apologise for PR samples – you’re 100% right – why should anyone?x

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I used to when I first started blogging, but now I just enjoy them! xxxx

  • I think we should celebrate bloggers doing Ads because it means their work is being recognized as true advertising power and true jobs too! I have had to cute people out of my life for mental health reason and to be honest, best decision ever!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I totally agree, if someone is doing an AD it doesn’t take much to give it a like and a comment does it?xxxx

  • Annie says:

What an inspiring post! I took a break from my blog a couple of weeks ago and as guilty as I felt, I tried not to apologise for it. Because as much as I didn’t want to admit it at the time, I really needed that time away. Thank you for sharing this!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I’m glad you’re back now my darling! As long as you feel better for it that is all that matters! xxxx

  • Roxie Watt says:

I’ve seen a lot of bloggers apologising for ADs and affiliate links recently. As long as they are declared, who are they harming? I always go out of my way to support an AD. I love to see bloggers getting opportunities and making some pennies along the way.

    Roxie | thebeautifulbluebird.com

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Exactly, the most important thing is they declare it and if they earn money from it, that is amazing! xxxx

  • Grace says:

Love lovr love this! Totally adding this idea to my Blogmas content!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Good luck with Blogmas my darling! You will nail it!xxxx

  • Amazing post! All so true as well. x

  • Alice says:

I totally agree with all of these! I find the whole AD thing quite baffling as I’ve never seen one blogger complain about an AD yet so many of them boycott them? Makes no sense! And I’ll never apologise for being myself!
    Alice Xx

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

If I see an AD I always like and comment! It doesn’t take much! xxxx

  • Erin says:

Yes! I love this so much! Don’t applogise for any of it!! 😀

  • Great post! I can totally relate to not apologizing for being yourself and cutting people out of your life. I agree that we need to move away from people that ‘suck the life out of you and literally drain everything from you.” Sometimes, it’s crucial to do that to protect my peace and sanity.

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Exactly, if it makes you happy and helps, that is all that matters! xxxx

  • Nancy says:

I totally agree with you about these things!!! If you have a legitimate reason, no need to apologize. You need to sustain yourself somehow and sometimes, ads have to do it. I am major on cutting people out if they’re acting a bit too toxic. You’re not here to please others. :). Thanks for sharing these!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

We all need to cut the people we don’t need out of our lives, there are so many people that just take advantage and it’s so unnecessary! xxxx

  • Michelle says:

You should definitely never apologize for being yourself. I think people really struggle with finding themselves –it’s part of growing up– and whenever we figure out who we are, we definitely should never apologize for who we are.

    Great post! x

We all have to give ourselves a chance to figure out where we want to be in life and who we are! xxxx

  • Lea says:

Yes, yes and yes to everything! Especially the Ad’s I feel a lot of people want you to make you feel bad for it but we should celebrate it and it is such a nice achievement and not a “burden”. But anyways, loved your post. xx

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Exactly, AD’s are amazing and enjoy the money you earn from it and also enjoy creating the content! xxxx

  • I really needed to read this! I haven’t been feeling great recently, and I have been apologising about not posting on my blog. Which I shouldn’t be doing!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Exactly my darling, your blog is supposed to be fun! xxx

  • Mel says:

You’ve got everything so spot on! Totally agree with you.

My husband was doing the same and it used to wind him up after a while! xxxx

  • Amy says:

I feel I need to apologise for pretty much everything – I can hear myself saying sorry for no reason a lot. One thing is to keep emailing people about taking part in things – if I knew whether you’d said yes, I wouldn’t have to keep contacting you.

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I think sometimes we apologise so much just out of politeness! xxx

  • This is fantastic! I agree with it all TBH 🙂
Sometimes it can be really difficult not to play down your own achievements, and I think apologising for things like PR samples plays in to that.
    Cora | http://www.teapartyprincess.co.uk

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I totally agree my darling, and PR samples are always such a blessing! xxxx

  • sheley says:

    I agree with each point!!!

  • Lindsey says:

Fabulous post – as always!! I’m exactly the same in the way that it’s like I’m feeling guilty for stuff that I’ve worked hard for – or just being myself. It’s not my problem if other people have an issue with that and we shouldn’t apologise for it. This is a really inspirational one and I hope you can keep it up.

  • Thank you for giving us the permission to stop apologizing!

I encourage my clients to do the same with their career. My favorite tip: Stop apologizing for being successful. If you’re good, enjoy it like you’d enjoy a new haircut. Run your fingers through it, admire it, post it, tell others where you got it ❤️

  • I love this post. It’s sometimes too easy to say ‘sorry’ rather than being confident in what you’re doing. Embrace your ads and samples, as you say, they pay for your pizza and make you happy!

  • Amanda says:

Thanks for this reminder. I find myself apologizing for giving instructions or correcting people at work, for buying things I need (with my own money) and other things where I am actually doing good and there is no need for an apology.
