6 Ways I’m Learning To Love Myself More

I’ve  always really struggled with self love, I’ve hated the way that I’ve looked, felt uncomfortable in my own body, when I’ve bought clothes, I’ve always felt uncomfortable because I feel like others are looking at me and judging me and honestly it is such a struggle. From the struggle with cellulite to stretch marks, I mean it is honestly a minefield.

With the whole new year new me stuff about it tends to trigger me in horrible ways, so it is important to love yourself when everyone seems to be talking about how to lose weight the quickest. The reason I’m writing this post is someone recently said to me you’re so body confident, and honestly I’m not, but here is how I’m working on it.

Accepting My Flaws

At the end of the day, no one is perfect, we all have little flaws but that is what makes us amazing. I have large pores, I get breakouts, I have stretch marks, and cellulite, but we all have things that we aren’t comfortable with and it shouldn’t stop us from living our lives.

Surrounding My Social Media With Inspiring Body Positive Influencers

Now I am plus size, so I think it is so important to surround my social media with body positive influencers. I hate seeing retouched photos where people take out their stretch marks and cellulite, and seeing amazing body positive bloggers of all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, skin colour, it makes me so proud to be an influencer.

If you are looking for some amazing accounts, I would 10/10 recommend @kirstyleanneuk, @emmyymayy, @devotedtopink, @whatlauraloves, @georginagrogan_ , @curvesncurlsuk to name a few!

Reminding Myself Of How Far I’ve Come

I’ve been through so much over the last few years, mentally, physically and emotionally and honestly it is so important to look back on the person you have become and be proud. I recently wrote a post To The Person I Used to be and honestly it made me realise how far I’ve come, what I’ve managed to achieve, especially with my mental health. Nothing should ever stop you from achieving anything. I’m finally learning to believe in myself.

Stop The Self Doubt

Now I am very much a doubter of my own work, in my job, at home, even on my blog, and it is tough, but I’m learning to love that I am a hard worker and I will make mistakes because it is natural. Humans make mistakes everyday, and sometimes they can be costly ones but it happens. It doesn’t make you a failure, it doesn’t make you any less of a human being, it makes you, you.

Reminding Myself There Will Be Bad Days

Not everyday you’re going to wake up and think it is all rosy and you’re feeling your oats, but it is learning to deal with those bad days and not give up, not make you feel worse and remember to be the bloody amazing human that you are.

Simply Take Care Of Myself

I’ve been getting back into my workouts lately and honestly not only does it work wonders for my physical health but my mental health also. I’ve been finding that since working out again, my skin is clearing up, I am dealing with stress a little better and the way I react to certain situations is better. Not only that I’m being more aware of what I am eating, the snacks I take to work and of course still enjoying my cake and sweet treats. Life in moderation is what I’m going for at the moment.

At the end of the day you will only ever get one body, you need to look after it. I’ve spent years in a hate/hate relationship with mine and now is the year I’m making a change.

This is such an inspiring post! Learning to love your self and accept things you might not have been comfortable with/hated before is so important for our overall happiness and well being. The point you make about taking care of yourself is so often overlooked but makes such a difference to how we feel about ourselves. Great post! xxx

This is a very inspiring post. It’s so easy to feel that we’re not enough and accepting yourself as you are is almost an act of rebellion. I’m happy that you’re practising a lot of self-love because that’s what you deserve. You are enough.

I’m focusing on self-love a lot more in my life recently so this post is great! it can be hard to acknowledge your own flaws but it’s important for self-love. As you said, no one is perfect and that’s totally okay! I’m slowly turning my social media into a more positive space too. There’s a lot of ‘posi’ accounts on Twitter and I’ve been trying to follow a lot of them. The little positive tweets help me a lot ♡ Great post!

A wonderful read! I’ve been working on self-love for over 6 years and I still have my moments. I can’t agree more on “reminding yourself there will be bad days” and taking care of yourself. The self-love journey isn’t easy and there will be days we just do not like ourselves, but that doesn’t mean “give up”; bad days are just bad days, but we are worthy of love. Thank you so much for sharing.

Ah Amie, I was screaming YESSSSS in my head the whole way through this post, it’s fantastic! I love that you are proud of yourself and what you’ve achieved. Self-love is one of the hardest things to accomplish and it’s all too easy to pick holes in what we do. I’m so pleased that you’re making the change, you should be very proud of who you are and what you’ve accomplished xx

  • This is such a wonderful post – it is so important to learn to embrace our flaws. In my opinion, you are positively beautiful and vibrant. Your blog is a great read and keeps me coming back for more. I might be a little odd, but my goal is not to lose weight but to rather become a little more curvy. After all I do rather love that quote, thick thighs save lives (and prevent phones from dropping in the toilet ha ha)! I am and always have been a very small person… but I have stretch marks. I workout often and run a lot and doing so will never get rid of my stretch marks. And that is okay. We need to embrace that. I wish that the media would not photoshop it out of photos because it gives so many people unrealistic body expectations.

  • Sarah says:

Some really great points there. I wish I could love myself more instead of picking flaws in everything 🙁

  • Ellie says:

This is amazing and made me a little emotional. It’s so hard when you feel like this, but making positive changes to your surroundings will make a huge difference. I’m currently doing the same as you! Please know you’re not alone <3 Can't wait to hear how you get on with these changes. xxx
