I’ve literally been a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions lately, mainly because I’ve been looking back at the person that I used to be. I’ve seen so many people doing the decade challenge, seeing where you were at the start of the decade and seeing where you are now. I’ve got to be honest, if I see where I was at the start of the decade to where I am now, I am a completely different person.
I can’t even compare the person that I was to where I am right now and here is why.
Over the last decade I have been on a bloody rollercoaster, from my anxiety, to the relationships in my life. People have come into my life and left my life and even though it has absolutely sucked, it has taught me so much.
It has taught me everything from the kind of person I want to be, to the people that I want in my life.
10 years ago I was genuinely a completely different person, I feel like I was stronger back then, and a lot more stubborn (yep I’m fully aware of how stubborn I am). I didn’t always have these big walls up around myself to protect myself, I feel like I jump onto defence so quickly, even when I’m at work when I probably shouldn’t. But it is my way of coping, and I’m trying to not jump on the defensive so much because it is just does not work.
I look back on old photos of myself, and I know exactly how I used to feel about myself, mainly because I can see it in my face, I can even remember how I used to feel.
I can see the insecurity in my face in every photo, especially with my size and I can definitely see that I didn’t feel good enough. I can see that no matter what I did, whether it was my make up, the clothes I wore, I still didn’t feel good enough or comfortable with myself.
Comparing myself to the person I was when I started the decade? I feel like even though I have been through hell over the last decade, I’m in a better place.
I have cut out the people that I don’t need in my life, people who drain the good energy out of my life, and I’ve managed to fill my life with people who are genuinely some of the greatest people in the world. Not only that, the people in my life genuinely bring me so much joy and happiness, and that is exactly what I need in my life and what everyone needs.
The person I used to be, basically wanted to be friends with everyone, she would spread herself too thin trying to do things for others when in reality she should have said no.
I’m not that person anymore and I am okay with that.
I am stronger than I used to be.
I’m learning to say no more.
To the person I used to be. Don’t let anyone walk all over you, life will get hard at times and people will let you down, but you do have the greatest people in your life who will be there no matter what. The people that walk out are not worth the time of day and you are better off without them.
Have you thought about where you are in your life? What you have been through in the last decade? Let me know in the comments!

Me too. I was so different 10 years ago and I can’t help noticing that since my change even my friendships are a little different now. But I would never go back for sure!
I don’t understand some of my friends when they say they would re-do high school again! crazy!

I love this, and I fully understand about learning to say no more, this is something I’ve learnt a lot this year. Such a brilliant post x
It’s been such a crazy yeah and decade for so many people for sure! I recently wrote a post looking back on the last ten years and honestly had to take a moment at some of the stuff in there! It’s only natural that we all change as the years pass but it’s so great that you have managed to stop spreading yourself thin – I too cut out some toxic asses from my life these last few years!
I loved reading this! So honest and so lovely to read how you’ve changed!

I have completely changed, in some ways better and others not so but yes you are right and it’s important to be able to say no xx
this hit so close to home. What an absolutely beautiful, soulful post. You are so, so strong- it takes so much to admit that we aren’t who we used to be, and that it’s okay.
Sending you all the love,
– Hannah ♡
Congrats to you! Sounds like you’re in such a good place and a much stronger person than you once were. That’s awesome! Great time to do some reflecting about where we’ve come from.
Its always good to take some time and reflect on how much we’ve changed. As we get older our priorities change and we learn to stop people pleasing and become more ourselves. Good for you for growing in self love.
An interesting one, I feel like I’m totally different in some ways but exactly the same in others. I’ve definitely seen people come and go in that time and feel much more secure in the people I have in my life now. This was a lovely reflection on the positive changes in your life x

Lovely post Amie. I often think about the person I used to be too x
I try not to be too reflective on the past but I think I have made progress in the past ten years – sending you hugs as always x
What an inspiring post!! I’ve seen this crop up a few times but more in the sense of what you’ve achieved and I didn’t want to do it because I hit a rough patch ten years ago and it’s taken a long time to get back to where I am now – and be happy with that place. But reading this just suddenly makes me feel that maybe that’s okay because I have moved on. It’s great to read that you know you are in a better place now, I guess that’s the really important thing.
I don’t often look back because I don’t find it helpful but I’m definitely in a much better place now than I was ten years ago. Learning to say no has been a definite factor in that, you’re right, it’s a real power. Lovely post, Amie xx

It is incredible how much we can change over time and how much we can grow from certain things we experience. Growth can be painful, slow, confusing and hard — but when we look back, it can be incredible to see who we have become. I’m excited for changes that will come — thanks so much for sharing!
Your honesty brings me so much closer to the things you are saying. I love that you have looked back and realized how much you have grown and how far you come. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to give gratitude for it to. 🙂
I loved reading this – you’ve come such a long way and should be proud of your journey x
Loved this ! ♥️
I’m so happy you’re feeling better and I love your new mindset!

I love this post! It is great that you have grown over the years and learned a lot along the way. The key to growth is being better than who you were before. Thanks for sharing the vibes!

What an inspiring post! Change can be good, but scary, but it sounds like you’re evolving into an even better version of you! And good for you for cutting out negative people in your life and for saying no. Those are difficult things to do, but it’s so worth it. Proud of you, girl!!

You seem like a girl who is so full of light, I know it’s easier said than done but don’t ever let anything bring you down or get you down . Always remember no rain no flower 🧡💛

I love this so much!
I can completely relate as well. I haven’t taken part in the challenge but I also have changed so so much and it would be like comparing two different people.

My life too has changed so much – for me it’s my pre-sick life and my sick life on some days.
A lot has changed for me in the last 10 years. I was still able to leave the house and walk and do everything for myself, despite being in constant pain. I still grieve over the person I used to be because I lost so much. Not gonna lie it’s been really hard but I think I have come to a place where I accept how my life is now and what it means. I’d like to think I am stronger for it but it doesn’t always feel like it.
I hadn’t really thought about this until I just read your post. It’s definitely good to reflect back and see how we’ve changed in that time. 🙂

I often think over the past, it shapes who we are and for the most part I feel grateful to have taken away what I have.
I’d never want to be that person I was back then again.
