5 Of My Latest Reads

Now that autumn is basically upon us, it is time to curl up with a hot chocolate and a good book. Lately I’ve been able to make a massive dent in my to be read list, which is great. But as soon as I made a dent, I bought more books. I just can’t resist new books.

There are so many amazing books that I’ve read lately but the top 5 books that you need to buy today that you will love!

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins-Reid

This is honestly one of my top reads of the year if I’m honest. I absolutely adore Taylor Jenkins-Reid books, their writing style really agrees with me and the way that I read.

The main 3 points of the book are family, love and the lengths we will go to for the ones we love. Sacrifices can be incredibly difficult, but filled with love. The book follows the 4 children of Mick Riva, a famous singer. There is Nina who is a surfer and model, Jay and Hud a championship surfer and photographer and Kit their little sister.

They’re well known in Malibu and around the world and to end summer Nina throws a big party. This party is where the famous and elite come to have fun, but by the morning the entire house is on fire.

The main questions are, how did the fire start? Why are the Riva children estranged from their dad? What secrets are the family keeping?

If you’re looking for a book to make you laugh, cry, and feel all the emotions, then this is the book for you!

The Fear by C.L. Taylor

C.L Taylor is one of my favourite authors and this book honestly did not disappoint.

Louise Wandsworth has moved back home after her father passed away, but it is the last place she wants to be. When she comes home, it reopens old wounds and memories that she had previously tried to get away from.

When Louise was a teenager, she ran away to France with her teacher Mike. She thought Mike was the love of her life, but not all is as it seems. Mike went to prison for his crimes, but Louise feels like the pattern is beginning all over again with someone new. She sees this and can’t let it happen, but will she be able to stop him?

This book has many twists and turns, and can be incredibly difficult to read, but I highly recommend it.

Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers

Jean Swinney is a writer at a local paper, when she receives a letter from Gretchen Tilbury claiming she has a daughter who was a result of a virgin birth. Jean looks into this to find out whether Gretchen is a fraud or if in fact Margaret – the daughter, is a miracle. Eventually Jean becomes close with the entire family, including Howard, Gretchen’s husband.

Slowly it becomes apparent that Jean is falling in love with Howard, but he is married to her friend. She is also looking into the family as part of her investigation into Margaret and her ‘virgin birth.’

The ending is honestly heart breaking to me, and leaves you with a lump in your throat.

Her Perfect Family by Teresa Driscoll

At Gemma Hartley’s graduation, she is shot and falls on stage during the ceremony. With her parents Rachel and Ed in the front row, they see her being shot. Gemma is then left fighting for her life.

No one knows who would shoot Gemma, but she received a cryptic message earlier in the day, but could this be linked? Matthew Hill starts to investigate, but soon after he realises that everyone in the family has secrets. Will he be able to unlock the secrets that the family are hiding or will the attacker strike again?

This book for me was very fast paced and was such an amazing read. I have read other books by Teresa and they never disappoint!

We Were Liars by E Lockhart

This book really gripped me from the start to the point I couldn’t stop reading.

The book follows the Sinclair family who spend their summers on Beechwood Island with their family. They have everything that money can buy and live a very privileged life.

Aunt Carrie invites her partner’s son Gat to spend the summer fifteen with them and Cadence, Johnny and Mirren become inseparable. Unfortunately after a tragic death, the family begins to be torn apart.

True colours begin the show and after that Cadence has a accident. She cannot remember what happened summer fifteen and she begins to remember the truth. The truth that is utterly haunting.
