4 Books I’ve Loved This Year

This year I have really been getting back into reading, it has been such a good escape for me and it really helps with my anxiety. Every time I go out, I always end up buying at least 2 new books, and it genuinely doesn’t matter if I have about 8 to read, you finish 1 and buy 2 as my husband would say.

I’ve finally here are 4 books, that I have absolutely loved reading this year, they are books that have kept me on  the edge of my toes and not wanted to stop turning the page.

The Nanny

Jocelyn is 7 years old when she loses her nanny, and she never gets over the loss she has felt. Thirty years later she returns to the family home, just as human remains are pulled out of the lake close to her home, however, someone arrives at the front door claiming to be her nanny.

I was really drawn to this book because I love anything that keeps me in suspense, and has so many dark twists and turns that you will not want to stop reading. The one thing that made me enjoy this book so much is it reminded me of a dark version of Mary Poppins, with so many secrets and a dysfunctional family.

Home Truths

Angie Watts has everything, a wonderful husband, three children and a new home. However, her son falls into the wrong crowd and his actions cause the murder of her husband. Liam goes missing,  Angie is trying to keep a roof over their heads and protect her family all at the same time.

This book was honestly so tough to read, and was emotionally traumatic, ever page you literally have your heart in your mouth. By the end of the book I was literally sobbing, you get so emotionally invested in all of the characters, you want to protect them and defend them and you felt like in some way you could relate to these characters. I especially found that drive for revenge from Angie was such a raw emotion because we all feel like that sometimes and it makes it feel so real.

My Lovely Wife

We fell in love, had children, moved to the suburbs, shared each others dreams and biggest secrets, and then we got bored. We look like a normal couple, but we all have secrets, ours just happens to be getting away with murder.

If you love dark psychological thriller, then this book will be right up your street. When I saw the tag line Dexter meets Mr & Mrs Smith, I knew I had to have it. The way that the characters genuinely seem like normal people, the kind of people that you would live next door to and who would be your friends. There are literally so many twists and turns in this book, that you will end up reading through the entire book in one day. It is one of the greatest books I’ve read in a long time!

Frozen Charlotte

Dunvegan School for Girls has been closed for many years and has now been converted into a family home. Sophie arrives at the old schoolhouse to spend the summer with her cousins. Brooding Cameron with his scarred hand, strange Lilias with a fear of bones and Piper, who seems just a bit too good to be true. And then there’s her other cousin. The girl with a room full of antique dolls. The girl that shouldn’t be there. The girl that died.

This book is beyond creepy, but it is a book that is so well written. It literally made me jump, was a good horror book. Even though it has the creepy dolls, it was written in such an amazing way that didn’t seem like a cliché. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book and gave me a chill down my spine. If you love a good horror book, I’d definitely recommend this one!
