How I’ve Grown As A Person This Year

We are only 6 months into the year and I feel like I’ve been tested. I’ve grown as a person, I’ve achieved so much, and I’ve also continued to push myself. The pandemic itself has changed us all, and I have focused a lot on my personal growth, where I want to be and also what I want to achieve. So how have I grown in the last 6 months?

01. Stepping out of my comfort zone

I recently wrote a post on how to step out of your comfort zone but I’ve really worked so hard on this. Mainly because so many incredible things happen when you’re able to push yourself a little bit further. It can be the start of something absolutely incredible, you can learn new things and change your path. I’ve learned so much since I pushed myself out of my comfort zone, I’ve learned to embrace the journey, embrace the path and just be myself.

I’m learning to accept the fear of failing, or not having the belief in myself, and I’ve got to be honest, I have 0 faith in myself. I struggle to believe that I can achieve anything no matter what anyone says to me, and that is such an awful feeling. Embrace the change, embrace the fear and remind yourself you can achieve anything.

02. I’m finding out who I really am

I’ve said on Instagram on Thursday that so much has changed for me in the last year, and I don’t really recognise the person that I was last year. I have changed so much. I’m finding things that make my heart soar, things that make me excited to live my life, and moulding my life to be what I want it to be.

I have realised I am happier, I’m in a better mental health space, I am fulfilled, I have an incredible job and overall I’m becoming the person I want to be. I feel like I’m living my best life.

I know where I want to be, I know how I want to achieve it, and I know I need to get out of my own way.

03. I’m focused on the bigger picture

Let’s be honest, over the last year, seeing the bigger picture has been hard. It’s been a struggle. We’ve struggled to see the future through all the uncertainty. Instead, I’m looking at what can this mistake or situation teach me. If anyone tells you, they’ve never made a mistake, they’re lying. We have all made mistakes, big and small – it makes us human. I’ve learned from my mistakes, and sometimes I may stumble, I may make the same mistake again, but I will learn and grow.

The other side of this is to forgive yourself. I tend to give myself a hard time for making mistakes, so it is important to forgive yourself, learn from your mistakes and move forward.

04. I am saying no without guilt

This is one I’m definitely still working on but lately I’ve truly noticed that after I say no I’m feeling less and less guilt. I’m not the kind of person that would ever do anything like this to be mean or selfish, but I’m doing this because I am making sure I am able to cope as a person.

I have realised that I do not need to give a massive explanation as to why I can’t do this, I just have to say no.

05. I’ve comfortable with feeling vulnerable

I have always put on a hard exterior, like nothing bothers me. I follow the ‘stiff upper lip’ mentality, but lately I’ve learned to let go of it. I’ve been able to show my emotions more without apologising for them, and closing yourself off from those people. I tend to struggle to let people in, mainly because I’ve been burned in the past by people.

But I’ve learned that not everyone is going to hurt me, I can let people in and be honest about who I am. By sharing my vulnerability and struggles can be a sign of strength and for others to know that they’re not alone.

06. I’m more persistent

I’ve always been the kind of person that is stubborn. Not even going to lie on that front. We need to learn not to give up on ourselves, to learn to be our own cheerleaders and to not stop until we get to where we want to be. I know that sometimes I want things to happen quickly but it doesn’t work like that. It is about a journey. To achieve what you want you need to stay focused, motivated and above all never give up.

  • I can really see your growth and it’s wonderful. I love that you’ve been able to reflect on yourself and the bigger picture. I feel like I did a lot of this last year but as a result of lots of hardship. I’d love to grow more off the back of some positivity this year!

Oh gosh, this post really touched me – it’s fantastic to see that you’re coming out of this stronger and more positive than ever. I also don’t recognise the person I was a year ago, but I think I’ve gone the other way unfortunately. Anxiety worse than I’ve ever had it, developed bad habits and in a pretty weird headspace most of the time. Feeling inspired reading this though, so thank you!

I love that you’ve been able to experience positive growth and changes! It’s definitely something to be massively proud of!

Saying no more has been a biggie for me but it’s something I really needed to start doing and the last year has definitely helped with that. Just need to make sure I carry it on!

  • Sarah says:

I’ve started to try and say no without guilt, I’m such a doormat sometimes that people just wait for me to say yes, no more. If I don’t want to do something I am not going to do it!
