I officially turn 26 on 25th August, ad I’m 100% not ready for that if I’m honest. This last year has been such a learning curve and I have genuinely learned so much, so much has happened, and I have taken so much on board over the last year. The thought of turning 26 is to me terrifying, it only feels like yesterday that I finished school and started dating Paul even though that was 8 and a half years ago.
1. Will I ever own a house? Where we live it is incredibly expensive, and we have saved quite a bit, but where I have just started a new job, I need to be there a few more months before we can finally look at mortgages. Everything is definitely going in the right direction, but it doesn’t stop me wondering.
2. Never forget the importance of family. I am so lucky to have the best family in the world and over the last few weeks I have been beyond grateful for them. They are the people that pick me up when I’m struggling and my husband is basically an angel and if I cry he is there to pick up the pieces.
3. I don’t feel like I am 26. I genuinely feel a lot older. Mainly because I am so damn tired. I feel like I could probably nap the rest of my life away and still feel like I needed to put the snooze button on.
4. There will always be negative people who try to bring you down, just ignore them, they’re genuinely not worth it. Life is about doing all the things that genuinely makes you happy, and cutting out all the people who are negative.
5. Ignore the lists online that are online. You don’t have to have settled down, had children, bought a house, be able to drive, be the perfect human being all the time you’re 26. Trust me. If I look at those lists, I have probably done about 2, so don’t do it. As long as you are happy and living your best life, that is all that matters!
6. Will I ever be wise? Remember when you were a kid and your family would come out with phrases that would make them seem so wise and that they knew absolutely everything, they had an answer to everything and they would make you feel like they were the most intelligent person in the world.
7. Being patient is important. I’ve worked so hard on various parts of my life over the last few years and I am a firm believer in everything happens when it is supposed to. It takes time for the right pieces of the puzzle to fall into place and the wait is definitely worth it.
8. I need a good sleep routine to be a sort of functioning human being. Yes I am getting old, and I can’t seem to put my head on a pillow and just dose off to sleep like I used to as a kid, there needs to be a pillow mist, and a chamomile tea.
9. I am always going to be the one that eats all the cake and the chocolate. I am a massive fan of my favourite treats.
10. There is still so much I have to learn, things I need to do before I’m 30, and I feel like the years are literally passing me by.

Oh my God! I am so sick of those online lists you mentioned. Why are we all supposed to be exactly the same? What if we prefer to travel the world instead of settling down? Such a nice relevant post.
Oh, and HAPPY BDAY! I wish you have the loveliest day ever.
I just turned 25 and I can relate to all the goals we set for our 20s it’s scary how time just flies but I can honestly say I have learnt so much in the past few years that I’m actually looking forward to the next 5 years of learning and understanding myself better
I had similar thoughts before my birthday in July. I just turned 27 and I feel as though life is just going way to fast. There are so many things I still want to do and I’m almost panicking that I won’t do them! On the other hand, I am having tons of fun, enjoying life and just happy. That being said, I can’t complain. My biggest concern is also buying a house. I live near Boston and to say the realestate is expensive is an understatement. My rent is double a mortgage, but becuase of that getting a down payment is virtually impossible. We’re working on it – but good god its a slow, painful process!
Happy [almost] birthday!

Congrats your life is still just beginning. You haven’t even made it half way. So you still have 4 more years till you start getting life figured out. Then you will hit your stride in your 40’s. So don’t sweat the details.
The house will come. Buy the best house money can buy and the cheapest car is some of the best advice I ever received.
Just keep you eye on the ball and your goal will be achieved.
OMG I had a lot of these thoughts when I turned 26 a few months ago! I’m starting to doubt that I’ll reach my bigger, life targets by the time I’m 30! I hope I do, but I can’t help thinking that I won’t! xx

I love your one about not having to feel you need to live life a certain way and done certain things by a specific age.

I’m turning 27 in less than a month and having a lot of these thoughts too! Although I feel much younger!
This such a positive post! Happy 26 to you. I can relate to a lot of points here especially cutting off all the negative people and having a good sleep routine. Also eating most of my birthday cakes. 🙂
I don’t tend to publicise my birthdays because I prefer to focus on my daughter’s instead. I agree with you about not taking any notice of online lists though, they are just a way of making me feel guilty or bad about not having achieved stuff. Early birthday wishes to you though, I hope you have a lovely day! 🙂 Lisa x
I loved this post! It’s so true not to listen to the lists you see online. Everyone is on their own path. I hope you have a lovely birthday!

Oooh, your birthday is coming around the corner! I can relate to you about having a house – it is so expensive and such a commitment. We learn about things over time. That’s the beauty of life! You still got ways to go before hitting 30! Sending you lots of love!

Usually, I think ‘ugh, how can I be nearly 50’ lol It really only feels like I was in my 20s the other day. In fact, I’d say I still think like I’m in my 20’s as I still feel that mentally I’m young at heart. Other than that I just think it’s another birthday and not much else now. 🙂

Agree with 8! I have to sleep a decent amount and at certain times or I am a zombie xx
You’re the best nearly 26-year old I know! x
Happy *almost* birthday – I turned 27 on the 15th x
I totally feel you on the homeowner front. it feels like everytime we try to save something gets in the way
I think everyone has the thought 1, I personally don’t ever think I’ll have the money for it which is unfortunate! I could also use with being better with 8 as I have an awful sleep routine too x

Great post! I’ve recently just graduated from university and turned 22 – I’m currently in that limbo phase were I’m trying to figure out what to do next. Being patient is definitely something that I’m trying to do right now – you don’t have to have everything figured out after all! x
