Feeling Negative & Attempting To Find My Positive Pants Again

Now if you saw my tweets over the weekend, I wasn’t particularly happy, no internet, a broken TV and food poisoning, it was pretty much a recipe for disaster and it kind of was. I was grumpy, irritable and pretty much wanted to curl up in bed and start all over again. They say it all comes in threes don’t they? It got me thinking though, people are quick to say oh cheer up, but do you know what? It’s okay to feel negative sometimes, you can be positive all the time.

Now I’m very much the kind of person that will try to put on a smile and I would try my best to shout from the rooftops everything is okay, pretend like nothing is wrong and pretty much plaster over everything that I’m feeling, but after all of that, I genuinely couldn’t. I felt so overwhelmed and it was literally one thing after another. I’m not okay and that is okay.

Safe to say it’s been an expensive weekend – not including the new glasses that I needed.

And yes I know that there are worse things going on in the world and yes I get that these are probably small things, but I’m the kind of person that is trying to share the good, the bad and the ugly. And this weekend has been pretty ugly.

Life isn’t always rainbows, glitter and perfect photos for Instagram – yes I’m a culprit of that, I have a sort of theme and I love a good flat lay, but I do try to keep it balanced. I like to show that side of me and no one should be made to feel bad for showing that side of themselves.

The remember the first time I put a kind of down feeling caption on Instagram and I got a message saying I needed to cheer up because Instagram was a positive and creative place.

Damn, that hit me right where it hurt. They didn’t follow me or anything, they found my photo through the hashtags – well I kind of guessed that because there’s no other way they could have found it. It was a long time ago and before the algorithm decided that it was going to mess us about. FYI Instagram, still waiting for my chronological feed.

But even though it still sits with me to this day (this was when I first started blogging so for over 3 years) it reminds me that I don’t need to force myself to be happy. Life has it’s ups and downs, it has it’s struggles and it gives us times where we want to smile so hard our cheeks hurt.

Don’t feel like you can’t feel whatever you’re feeling. At the end of the day no one should police you on the way you should and shouldn’t be feeling. If you’re feeling negative, it’s totally okay. We all do sometimes, it’s part of life. Emotions are what makes us human, but if you’re really struggling and  you having a lot of bad days, talk to someone, get support, you’re not alone.

All in all though, after the weekend, I’m just trying to find my positive pants again, I’ve got some exciting things coming up, including stuff for the blog, in my life and if all goes well this week just in general. Life knocks you down sometimes, but you have to get back up again.

When I’m feeling like this, my Mum always reminds me of this:

You try you fail, you try you fail, but the only true failure is when you stop trying – The Haunted Mansion.

That one is just for you Mum.

Oh I hope this week is better than the weekend! It sounds so stressful. I think there’s nothing wrong at all with being a little negative sometimes and just accepting that life isn’t always happiness and rainbows! We’re allowed bad days and it’s okay to not be okay xxx

I completely understand. I had a really down day yesterday, I hadn’t even got the will to get up properly. I’ve been having a lot of issues with my health and 2 Neurologist appointments, 2 CT Scans and an MRI later and I’m still none the wiser, still in a lot of pain and the one scan showed up something they weren’t even looking for, hence the second CT scan. I’ve been as positive as I can be but yesterday it just all seemed to hit me at once and that is okay.

I hope you have a much better week, with much less stress! 🙂 x

I get this so much! i;ve had a few down days and actually being able to speak about it on social media is so cathartic! I really think we should encourage more of that because you never know who it might help!

We definitely should, and it can make the world of difference! xxxx

  • I love that quote! I’m weirdly positive right now. We have had a problem with our boiler and the plumber is on his 4th or 5th attempt at fixing it. Haven’t had any heating or hot water for nearly 4 weeks now. And for some reason, it just isn’t bothering me anymore?? I think I must have found my positive pants already x

I’ve had a hard time, but with Christmas coming up it’s hard not to be positive for the festive season. I know those days, where it’s one thing after another going wrong. Had my fair few of them!

This is such a poignant post! It’s too easy to put on a front these days where everything has to look and feel perfect, regardless of how we feel inside. I think it’s kinda dangerous to be honest – you have to embrace how you are really feeling, even if it isn’t the most positive. You’re right: never try to be something you’re not. It makes you appreciate the positive times more if you accept the negative. But I hope this week has been better and you’re feeling better now.

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I totally know what you mean my lovely! Sometimes we just have to be honest with how we are feeling! Thank you my darling! xxxx
