If there is one thing the pandemic has taught us it is not to take the small things for granted. It is things like what we plan to do at the weekend, the joy of just going out for a cup of coffee. The last year has really put life into perspective, what is important, who is important and where we really want to go in our lives.
Lockdown 3 has definitely been a lot harder than the others, and sometimes finding the positives during lockdown can be so tough, we know people who have lost their battle to coronavirus and we are separated from the people we love, but we will be together again soon. This year, there are lots of things that I’m going to stop taking for granted will you?
What To Stop Taking For Granted:
- Spending time with family and friends
- Going to a coffee shop
- Road trips and singing bad songs in the car
- Hugs with loved ones
- A new day
- Good books (read what I’ve been reading lately)
- Going shopping and trying on clothes
- Going on holiday and making memories
- Waiting in a queue for food shopping
- Netflix marathons
- Eating at a restaurant and listening to the hustle and bustle of a restaurant
- Smiling at others
- A good nights sleep
- A fridge full of food
- Your health, especially during this difficult time, where we are losing people we love, our health is important
- Walking down the hall to speak to co-workers
- Spending the day at the beach
- Family dinners with bad jokes
- Going to the cinema
- Doing the everyday jobs that need to be done
- Conversations with loved ones
- Our NHS and the way our doctors and nurses have done such incredible jobs and continue to do so
- The freedom to choose what we do daily
- Calls from colleagues during the day
- The sun shining
- Random acts of kindness (read 20 random acts of kindness)
- The future and all of the wonderful things that are coming
- The past and the life lessons that I have learned throughout
- Finding new passions in your life
- Going to sleep at night without worrying about tomorrow
- The commute to and from work
- Going into small shops in my local area to support them
- The smell after it has rained
- Your time, and making the most of each moment that we walk this earth
- Your energy and making sure that you cut people out who drain your positivity
- Advice from loved ones – my grandad has the best advice
- Good music to pick me up when I’m having a bad day
- Meditating and finding my inner peace
- Working out and enjoy the fresh air
- Support from others
The way that this year has gone, it has been so hard, we have all been doing everything we can to do protect our loved ones, keep our distance, and hopefully there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If you need support and you’re struggling, please contact these helplines.
What are you grateful for? Let me know in the comments!

I think one thing that this pandemic has taught all of us is that we shouldn’t take things for granted, I love all these things that we shouldn’t take for granted anymore, especially our NHS x

Yes, this is so important. Look at how much humanity took for granted before the quarantine and now we’re all overthinking it all <3 so powerful.

This is a pretty wholesome post. I’m smiling throughout the entire post because during these trying times I just can’t take anything for granted anymore and started to count my own blessings and be grateful for what I have and what I have done. I love this post so much, Amie! xx

Oh gosh, yes! We had a sunny weekend and just being able to sit outside for a bit felt the most wonderful thing ever! It really does make you realise that the little things mean a lot and it doesn’t have to be something big to feel grateful for it. Lovely post.
Hugs is defo one!! I am so so close to my siblings and being apart physically has made me soo sad. I can’t wait to hug them all so tight soon!

I love the meaning behind this post. The pandemic has really shown us what is important in life. I won’t ever take my freedom to do as I please for granted again.
Aw, what a sweet list! You’re so right and if last year has taught me anything is to be grateful for what I have! I really really miss seeing my nieces and nephews as well as eating in a restaurant! I’m so thankful that my family is keeping well and safe at home and that I’m able to cook and grab take away from restaurants to support them! xx

Thank you for sharing, I have had to re-learn again what I’m, grateful for during this time which has been very hard to do, when sometimes we just want it all back to the way it was before, I do hope soon we can all be there 🙂
I love this list! I’m never taking for granted again being able to chill with friends in their houses, the freedom of travel and browsing around a bookshop xx
This was such a great list! I had always taken for granted visiting my parents and relatives back home or even hugging a friend! This time thought us that even the smallest things are important, thanks for sharing x
YES. Love this! Gratitude and not taking things for granted is so important and something I think we’ve all learned over the last year x
Oh Amie, i really felt every single point here. I think we have so much to be incredibly grateful for right now, no matter how bad things seem.
Practising gratitude honestly is so important for our mental health and wellbeing x
I love this! There are so many things I took for granted before the pandemic. Time with family and friends, a trip to the coffee shop and being able to hug the people I cherish. These are definitely things I won’t be taking for granted again. Thanks for sharing!
It’s so lovely to have a reminder that there are things we consider ordinary that are in fact little things that make life good. This was so nice to read — thanks for sharing!
I loved reading this, it’s surprising how much we all take for granted! The freedom to choose what we do is such a big one – I think it’s something a lot of us didn’t realise was a privilege until lockdown! Thanks so much for sharing!
Hi, as I have read through your post I’ve found myself going awww that one, and that one, and that one! So many lovely things to do post lockdown! My life has changed having a baby, so I have many new things to experience! Thanks for sharing your positivity 🙂
My parents live abroad and I’m never going to take being able to hop on a plane to see them for granted. Small things like being able to hug a friend when they tell you they’re feeling down as well, i miss human contact! xx

These are some really well points about what not to take for granted. Looking back and reflecting has made me appreciate more and more on taking the time out to do the things listed in your post.
While we have missed so much this past year, I still feel I have a lot to be thankful for. Most importantly, my good health and the health of those I love. Thanks for sharing and here’s hoping to a more normal life very soon.
# 30 is definitely something I miss! Thanks for the list. I’m going outside to smile at the sun.
Love these! It’s so easy to take things for granted!

I absolutely love this post! During lockdown I’ve really tried to find something to be grateful for everyday. I set myself a goal of three things to write down. It’s so easy to take life and everything we’ve got for granted! Great post xo

Wow! This is absolutely beautiful and such a phenomenal reminder. I think the past year has really given a lot of us a new perspective on the things we’ve often taken for granted. I, for one, definitely miss coffee shops like crazy and getting to travel to see my in-laws as well! Those are things I never even realized I was taking for granted until they were removed from my life. Thank you for this reminder to really appreciate everything: big and small!
