What I’ve Read Lately #5

Books I've Read Lately

What have I read lately? Well I’ve been reading so much but there are still so many books in my to be read list. Reading has definitely become an amazing outlet for me, especially because of the pandemic, it is an escape from lockdown and the struggles that there are in this world right now. I definitely feel like we all need that right now. So do you need a few new book recommendations? I’ve got you covered, grab a cuppa and find out more.

The Other People by C.J Tudor

I am a massive fan of C.J Tudor books, I genuinely enjoy their books. This one centres around Gabe as he witnesses the disappearance of his daughter, to then be told that both his wife and daughter were dead, but he never believed it. He would travel the same roads, to see if he could find clues that would lead him back to his family. One night when he is driving down the same roads where he lost his family, he comes across a clue. He believes that he sees his missing daughter. Did Gabe hallucinate? Was it real? Was he losing his mind? This clue leads him down a path that he genuinely never thought possible.

I honestly feel like this book had a never ending amount of twists and turns, I felt like I was constantly on my toes turning each page. It is the ultimate mystery, psychological thriller, and an absolute emotional rollercoaster.

Playdate by Alex Dahl

This book follows the perfect family when Elisa lets her daughter go on a playdate that turned into a sleepover. Lucia goes to Josie’s for a playdate, and Elisa drops over her overnight clothes, and that is the last time she sees her daughter. The next morning when Fredrik goes to pick up their daughter, the house is completely empty, no furniture, no family and no daughter. Why has someone targeted the Blix family? What reason could someone have? As the book goes on, you hear the story from various points of view, and also has a journalist named Selma who becomes very invested in the case.

The emotions throughout this book are so strong, it really does tug on your heartstrings throughout, you get emotionally invested in the characters, and I definitely didn’t see the coming.

The Flight by Julie Clark

This took me a while to get into but I really enjoyed it. Clare and Eva have very different lives, but they have one thing in common, they need to disappear. Claire is trying to escape from a popular and prominent political family. The person that she thought she married, wasn’t actually the person she married, Rory is actually physically abusive. He has people watching Claire’s every move, but this time she is determined to get away. Eva was raised in the foster system, however, she was lucky enough to make out. She started studying at Berkley and ended up falling in with the wrong crowd and got involved in drugs where she was caught. Claire and Eva end up swapping identities, tickets, with Claire going to Oakland and Eva going to Puerto Rico.

The book honestly has so many twists and turns, it is a tough read, and the way that the characters are written, and it is a very fast paced book, going through so many highs and lows.

The List by Carys Jones

I don’t think I’ve ever gasped at a book before, but this book definitely took me on such a twist and turn. This book follows Beth Moon, she find a letter in the wood when she goes running, and it has her name on it, along with 4 others. She doesn’t recognise the other names that are on the list. The book flits between Beth and a young girl named Ruby, however, little do you know that Ruby is Beth, and she is in the witness protection programme. You find out the reasons why she has her name changed, all about her past.

This book was definitely a tough read when you get further and further in. I would give a trigger warning to anyone who has struggled with depression and self harm, because f what is covered within this book, but it is really good book.

These are the most amazing books I’ve read lately, but you can find out all the other books I’ve read over the last few months.
