2019 Reading Challenge – 6 To Be Read Books

This year I set myself a little challenge, to read 20 books. I read quite a lot last year and really fell in love with psychological thrillers, I also fell in love with historical fiction – mainly The Tudors. It was always one of my favourite things to learn about at school and nothing has really changed since then to be honest. I got quite a few new books over the Christmas period, from some of my favourite writers ever. I do have a larger to be read pile than this but for the challenge, this is where I’m starting.

Six Tudor Queens – Katherine of Aragon, The True Queen

In this book, you start to learn all about Katherine of Aragon, her journey to be married to Henry VIII’s brother Arthur before she went on to marry Henry himself. She has always been someone that I have admired and was fascinated by, I genuinely can’t wait to get stuck into this book!

Six Tudor Queens – Anne Boleyn, A Kings Obsession

In this book a lot like the previous one you learn all about Anne Boleyn who changed so much in England during her time. In the book it talks about her childhood and gives insight into the kind of person she was. I have a feeling once I start reading this, I’m not going to stop!

Six Tudor Queens – Jane Seymour, The Haunted Queen

The third instalment from Alison Weir is Jane Seymour, and it goes into detail about Jane’s childhood – a bit like it did in the book about Anne and gives insights into who Jane was and how she became queen. It also shows in more detail a bit of Henry’s character and the kind of man he was.

John Grisham – The Reckoning

In this book a war hero named Pete Banning shoots and kills Dexter Bell, the Reverend of the Methodist church in Clanton. What is even more mysterious is Pete Banning’s statement to the police with the infamous words “I have nothing to say.” This book is a bit different for me, but when I saw it in Waterstones I got captivated by the story!

A.J.Finn – The Woman In The Window

I love a good thriller and  this one got me as soon as I saw it! Anna Fox hasn’t left her house in 10 months, she is terrified and wants to stay in her safe place. A new family – the Russells move into the local area and she can see them from her house, she is absolutely captivated by them. One night she hears a scream and she thinks it comes from the Russells – but no one believes her. What happened?

Phillipa Gregory – The Boleyn Inheritence

I’ve read pretty much all Phillipa Gregory’s books, this one is the only one I’m missing! Henry VIII must take another wife, he only has Edward as his heir and needs spares. He takes his fourth wife who is Anne of Cleves, but there is an air of uncertainty around the kingdom with Jane Boleyn being summoned into the inner circle. What does this mean for Anne of Cleves?

These are on my to be read pile at the moment. I’ve started reading and so far I’m loving it! What books are on your to be read pile? Let me know in the comments!

Yay for more reading. Last year I managed to read more because I started using my Kindle more and added more topics I’d enjoy – nonfiction and short stories. This year the plan is to read loads of business-focused / career related books 🙂 I spent the rest of the resources given by work to buy book so I’m hoping it sticks!

I love my kindle so much, there are some amazing free books on there too! xxxx

  • I set a goal of 35 books last year and was doing brilliantly until September when suddenly I couldn’t find anything that interested me. I’m still struggling now so I think I went for 20 this year too xxx

  • heather says:

I have my goal at 50 but I know I’ll read so much more than that – it helps so much with my anxiety x

I’ve set myself the same challenge to read 20 books! I’ve set myself little challenges as well like read a classic, read a banned book etc just to keep things interesting 🙂
Would love to hear an update on how your challenge is going and your thoughts on the books you plan to read!

I absolutely love Tudor fiction too, I actually have the first two of Alison Weir’s series but I haven’t got round to them yet as I’m re-reading my Philippa Gregory collection! I loved The Boleyn Inheritance, so much scandal and intrigue so I’m sure you’ll really enjoy it too! 🙂 Looking forward to seeing how you get on with these!

If you ever read The Last Tudor by Phillipa I’d definitely recommend it! It’s one of my favourites by her to be honest! xxx

  • You and I have very similar reading tastes! I’ve read The Boleyn Inheritance, the Katherine and Anne books and am waiting for Jane to come out in paperback (I read in bed and don’t like hardbacks). I think 20 books is a very realistic challenge, good luck with your list this year! x

I think you can get the paperback on Amazon, I’m not sure though, double check as I got the Jane one for Christmas! xxxx

  • Good Luck for all your reading this year, I haven’t read any that you have listed but I really want to try reading some John Grisham this year. My goal for reading this year was to just read 1 book (for my Goodreads goal) and to enjoy reading once more and read as much and as often as I can and to rediscover more new authors and books.

Loved this post and as I said I’ll definitely be adding some of the books to my own list!
