5 Positive Changes I’m Making To My Routine

5 Positive Changes I'm Making To My Routine

Life is all about change and I’m making some positive changes to my daily routine. They’re really simple changes that I’m making in my daily life that help me to stay productive but also keep myself in a more positive mindset.

01. Increase my water intake

Water intake is incredibly important, but there are a few simple ways I can easily increase my water intake. I have a a water bottle that holds 2 litres, and it really does help me to increase my water intake.

I also use Plant Nanny which is an app that reminds you every so often to drink your water and stay hydrated. This has literally been the most amazing app, and it is super easy to use.

02. Waking up earlier

Lately I’ve been waking up earlier, and to be honest, it has been a godsend. I’ve woken up every morning, watched the sunrise, with my first cup of coffee, do my yoga and it has been the most relaxing start to the morning.

Find a routine that will work wonders for you, you don’t have to have a cup of coffee, you could just do your workout. Whatever that is, do more of what makes you tick.

Start off small, I’m not saying if your wake up time normally is 8am, start off waking up at 5.30am. Start off small and work up to it!

03. Moving my body more

My FitBit has personally been the best purchase I could have ever made. It will remind me every hour to move and get some steps in. It isn’t as straight forward though, for example if you have meetings, but just moving a bit more, getting some steps in and stretching.

Sitting at a desk can definitely put pressure on your back, so make sure even if it is some simple stretches, just to move a bit.

04. Focus on what matters

Sometimes it can be really hard to find focus in your life, especially when we live incredibly busy lives. Lately I’ve learned to take a positive look at my life, and just make sure that I’m putting energy into the right places.

Ensuring that you’re focusing on what matters to you, making sure you’re not wasting time on things that don’t matter is important.

Read how to stop wasting time on things that don’t matter.

05. Learning to switch off my phone

Switching off my phone is so important in the evening. We are all very guilty of saying oh I’ll just have a little scroll through Instagram. Stop. Don’t do it.

I have a routine where I do my skincare, brush my teeth, get into bed and start reading my book. It is probably one of the most relaxing things ever! Although a top tip, don’t read a psychological thriller right before bed because you will be dreaming about that psychological thriller.

The most important thing is you find a wind down routine, that doesn’t include your phone, because I’ve found it can really keep me awake at night.

These are my top tips though, what are you adding to your wind down routine? Let me know in the comments!

    Hi Amie,

I’m sure that all of those changes will have a positive impact.

The water drinking one is something that we all should do – probably in place of all of the tea and coffee that we drink. When at work I no longer drink coffee – its just water for the whole day. This helped greatly … until the pandemic came along … then I slipped back into my old coffee-drinking habits! 😉

I’ve been getting up early recently and it’s been wonderful. I used to lay in and sometimes still do but can’t beat getting up early and being ready for the day!

This is such a great list! I should join you on this journey – there are so many things I need to improve. I definitely found that waking up (even just slightly) earlier helps a lot, but I fell back into bad habits. Thank you for sharing!

Water always makes such a difference – I’m such a firm believer in drinking enough each day, although not sure my bladder always agrees!

  • Love these tips Amie! I really could do with upping my water intake! It’s something I’ve always struggled with although I’ve definitely improved since being pregnant. I’m also big on waking up early! I set my alarm so I can enjoy my breakfast and a cup of tea in peace before the madness of the day starts.

  • Change your mind, change the world. Love these tips! I’m not a coffee drinker but I’m learning to start my day doing some kind of self care so I can pour into myself. So shutting your phone off hmmm? I may try that

I’ve been trying really hard to cut down on tech time and spend more time in the real world recently too. I’ve tried to be more of a morning person but I don’t see that being something I’m super successful with 😂

  • These are some really fab changes! I definitely need to get into the habit of drinking more water too as well as moving more – my joints are pretty stiff anyway so I really should be doing more! Thanks for sharing x

ive actually been doing all 5 of these things myself recently and I’ve found it to have a really positive effect on my mindset. Drinking water does wonders for my skin, it’s nowhere near as dry and crusty & I’ve found switching my phone off at points during the day to be really good for me. Love this post lovely, thanks for sharing Xo

These are what I need to implement in my routine too! Although I do wake up early (courtesy of 4 year old) I need to go to sleep at a reasonable time so I wake up happily. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve been getting up earlier in recent weeks and it’s actually my favourite time of day. Just me, our cats, and a cup of tea in the garden. 15 minutes of uninterrupted bliss!

I have been moving my body more but not focusing on dieting, losing weight etc. Just enjoying my body moving, getting more fresh air and feeling my muscles work!
