This year has been a rollercoaster that we’ve all can’t wait to end, but it has also been an eye opening year, I’ve realised a lot of things, and especially what is important. So as we finally approach the end of the year, there are 12 things I’m letting go of to have a happier, and a more positive life. So what do we need to let go of right now?
01. Being A Perfectionist
This is definitely something I’ve struggled with all of my life, I always want everything to be just right, solve everything and just do everything to the highest standard of perfection, but in reality it isn’t something that can ever be done.
02. People Who Make Me Unhappy
This is one I’ve worked so hard on this year, because I genuinely don’t have time for people who don’t give a crap about me, or they just want something from me, and quite honestly I don’t have time for it. Life is too damn short to make time for people who don’t care.
03. Past Mistakes
I’m definitely the kind of person that overthinks everything but sometimes small things like a mistake I happened to make when I was 12 and then feel guilty about it all over again. Mistakes make you human, and you learn from them, that is the amazing thing about life, we are always learning and evolving.
04. Insecurities
I’ve definitely been on a journey over the last year, and being in lockdown has definitely bought up a lot of insecurities for me. The main one is how I feel about my body. I haven’t felt 100% comfortable in my own skin this year, but I’v0e been working on it with exercise as it makes me feel confident and surrounding my social media with body positive accounts..
05. The Need For Control
This year has quite literally been out of control, people not following the rules, not being able to see loved ones, it has sucked. But I don’t need to control everything, and micromanaging my life just makes life hard, and puts me in a box when I really don’t need to.
06. Guilt
This one leads back to insecurities, but feeling guilty and not good enough, when in reality, I’m an amazing person, with a big heart, and as long as I do my best, then that will always be enough. And if it isn’t? Then those people are not the kind of people that I need in my life.
07. Excuses For Not Making Time For Self Care
I’m the worst for this one, mainly because my main excuse is there are more important things, and sometimes this is true, but if I don’t take care of myself, then I can’t help anyone else. No matter how small the act of self care is, it will make the world of difference.
08. Self Doubt
Self doubt definitely has a massive impact on me, I had a moment over the last few weeks, where I doubted all that I knew, and didn’t think I could do something, but in reality, I’d already done it and achieved what I needed to. We all have times where we doubt ourselves, but we also need to believe in our talents and what we are good at, and not get inside our own heads.
09. People Pleasing
I wrote a big post on this back in the day on how t stop being a people pleaser, and it is tough. You want to be helpful, you want to be supportive, but you can’t always make everyone happy and it sucks. You should never compromise what makes you happy or where you want to in life, to please others or to make others happy.

10. Negativity
Negativity is something that can never be avoided unfortunately, but I am going to focus on the positive side of a situation no matter what. A negative attitude doesn’t help any part of our lives, but by focusing on positivity, it make the world of difference to our outlook, our happiness, and everything we achieve.
11. Worrying
I am pretty sure I’m best friends with worrying, I have a gift of turning something that is probably the size of a grain of salt into Mount Everest due to worry. I am not going to waste my energy on worrying about things outside of my control, putting the worst case scenario in my head. Instead I’m going to say to myself, will worrying and getting no sleep have any impact on the outcome? The answer will always be no.
12. The Comfort Zone
I am definitely the kind of person that gets stuck in my comfort zone, but I also absolutely love a challenge, I love to be pushed to achieve more and it is important for my own growth to get outside of my comfort zone. Sometimes the fear of change can stop you from stepping outside of your comfort zone, but it will be amazing once you take that step.
These are the 12 things we all need to let go of, is there anything that you’re letting go of? Let me know in the comments!

This post is one of the best ones I’ve read. I can relate to this so much and these are all the things I need to let go of! I told myself earlier in the year that I would let go and these last few weeks I’ve found that I’m back where I used to be. By the end of next week I want to let go of all these things, enjoy my Christmas and get on with the new year without the doubts and worries. Thanks for sharing, I needed this!
I loved reading this Amie, letting go of feeling like you need to be a perfectionist is so true, and also pleasing others, you just need to focus on yourself at times! x

I’ve stopped being a people pleaser a long, long time ago. The only thing I need to please is myself. I think the ones I currently wanna let go are definitely the people that give nothing but negative vibes and the constant worrying xx

Thanks for sharing, I have so many of these that I need to let go, as it has got me in trouble in the past 🙂
This is such an awesome post Amie! We all need these reminders right now and I love how you take the time to be so honest about your own emotions as well. Reading posts like this helps me realise we’re all going through this together!
I can literally relate to this post so much so thank you for sharing and being so honest and real!!xx
these are all super important and ones many of us forget to do! I will have to keep these in mind in future 🙂
I loved this! I’m a massive worrier and I’ll be honest I need to let go of most of the things on this list.
This is a great post – thanks for sharing your positivity 🙂 here’s to a great 2021!
These are some great suggestions. I really need to learn to let go of self doubt. It stops me from doing so many things.
Yes, yes you’re so right but it can be soo hard! I am feeling really wobbly at the minute but I think it’s just a mass of everything going on in the world!
I am going to take your advice and let it go!

This is definitely something I needed to read today. If 2020 has taught us anything it’s that life is too damn short to get caught up with negativity and trying to please everyone. I really resonate with all of these but I feel the need for control is a really important thing I need to let go of – I’ve always had issues with it and this year has really proven that you can’t have complete control over what happens! Thank you so much for sharing x
All so true though unfortunately easier said then done. I hope to tackle one at a time and hopefullly the successes will have a ripple effect
Yes yes yes to all of these! I’m currently working really hard to eliminate some of these from my life. Sometimes it can take years!
Great post! This last year has really magnified a lot of our insecurities and challenged us to reexamine our lives. Thanks for sharing your experience.
This is such a brilliant post! So many of these I am guilty of and I know I am but I have to do some serious work around it. Thank you so much for sharing x
Great post! these are such great reminders. i can be a people pleaser sometimes, and i’m working on it.
This is a great list of things to examine in your life and look at letting go. This year I am focusing on my mental health, so I have been going through my personal social media and my phone and deleting people who I don’t talk to or people who are toxic and don’t bring me positivity. Thank you for sharing these suggestions. Happy New Year!

Great post! I think what the pandemic has definitely taught us is that life is unexpected. We never know what could happen that will not be in our control so we should be doing everything we can to be happy and live more intentionally! I’m dropping people-pleasing 100%! It’s super draining and I just don’t need that negativity in my life anymore! Thanks for sharing x

I couldn’t agree more with your first point – I really need to stop being such a perfectionist! Especially with my blog, I would be so much better just posting something rather than spending days tweaking it. Great tips for a new year xx
People-pleasing is my downfall. I find it so hard to say no. And on top of that, I am a perfectionist who feels the most secure when I am in control of things. I like to know that I have control over the outcomes. I am so tough on myself because of it.
Thank you for inspiring me to make some subtle changes and let go of a few things this year. I’m sure life with be happier if I loosened up a bit. 🙂
