What I’ve Been Reading & Watching Recently #1

Well 2020 has definitely been a funny and difficult year to be honest, but I’ve definitely been making sure to fill it with all the wonderful things in life. Lots of time with my family, good books and lots of good TV shows. With the lockdown still ongoing and a lot of uncertainty in the world, I’ve definitely found lots of comfort in so many books and TV shows to take me away from what is going on in a very scary world. So what have I been reading & watching?

Reading

Now I’ve been reading a lot of books lately, and if you are friends with me on Goodreads (cheeky plug of my Goodreads) then you will see what I’ve been up to. Since getting a Kindle though, I’ve noticed that I’m reading so much more, mainly because I have Kindle Unlimited and my husband is no longer falling over my mountain of books (it’s basically a win win situation for all involved.) Im going to talk about my 4 top books that I’ve read that you may enjoy too!

Someone We Know by Shari Lapena

I’ve read all of Shari’s books, and I genuinely believe they are some of the greatest books out there. Whenever I’m reading her books, I feel like I’m on the edge of my seat, and genuinely don’t want to stop reading. She has become one of my favourite authors. The book revolves around the murder of a woman, Amanda, but what you learn from that murder is how many lies and secrets everyone on the street has. Their stories intertwine into one, everyone is suspected, no one is innocent. The amount of twists and turns there are in this book, will keep you guessing right up until the very last page. If you’re like me and a fan of psychological thrillers, you’ll really enjoy this one!

What You Did by Claire McGowan

This book was a tough read as it does cover so many sensitive issues such as rape, affairs and domestic abuse, but the way that Claire wrote it didn’t make me feel uncomfortable. The book starts off with Ali’s best friend Karen accusing Ali’s husband Mike of rape. The nightmare is only just beginning though, it takes you through all of the events that happen to lead up to this point, including what happened at the Summer Ball while they were at university. As you move through the book you pick up on the secrets, the lies and the affairs. Not only that throughout the book you can literally feel all of the emotions that Ali is feeling and it keeps you thinking throughout.

What Happens Now by Sophia Money-Coutts

I laughed so much with this book, it is one of those books that is so brutally honest, and you don’t want to put it down. The book starts off with Lil meeting Max on a blind date, they sleep together and she ends up getting pregnant. You’re thinking is this very much like Bridget Jones’ Diary, and in some ways it is similar, and yet totally different all at the same time. Lil has got to be one of my favourite characters, she is such a normal woman, yet works in the most extraordinary world. She is a teacher at an exclusive school teaching rich and famous children, and yet she meets a famous explorer and doesn’t realise. The entire book talks about how they navigate through finding out they’re having a baby and whether they will eventually give the relationship a go. It is so heart warming, you will genuinely love it.

The Other You by J.S. Monroe

This book I finished most recently, and I loved every minute of it. Kate is a super recogniser and works for the police, she had never forgotten a face, until she was involved in a car accident and suffered from a brain injury. Her new boyfriend Rob is everything anyone could want, he is successful, loving and rich, and not only that he has helped her recovery and done everything he can to get her back to full health. However, one day when Rob comes home, she is convinced that her boyfriend has been replaced with a double. The book takes you through everything that has lead up to this point from various points of view, including Kate’s ex boyfriend Jake, her ex boss Silas and her best friend Kate. You won’t want to put this book down.

Watching

I’ve been watching some amazing programmes and even movies lately, especially now that I have Disney+ which is totally worth it by the way. I’ve also been watching some old series that I used to love, mainly because you can’t beat rewatching a good TV programme. So what programmes would I recommend?

Manifest (Sky One or Now TV)

I have loved watching the second series of this, mainly because the first was so bloody good. It is about a flight that was on it’s way to Jamaica and turns up 5 years later. The show goes through what the passengers went through, the impact upon the passengers after they return and also what happened with their loved ones. It is one of those TV shows that you won’t want to stop watching once you start.

Greys Anatomy (Sky Atlantic & Amazon Prime)

Literally one of my favourite shows in the entire world. The programme originally starts with 5 surgical interns and their journey to becoming surgeons, however the main focus is on Meredith Grey, the daughter of the best surgeons Dr Ellis Grey. There is so much to love in this show, each character has their own moment, their own storylines and you get completely hooked on it and want to learn more about them. It is one of those programmes that will make you laugh, make you cry, make you smile and you will definitely relate to it.

Disney+

Now I’m a big lover of Disney and always have been, however since buying it for the year, Paul and I have been watching each Disney film in chronological order, which definitely hasn’t been easy, but honestly I’ve loved every minute of it, and fallen in love with films I haven’t watched since I was a kid. Would definitely recommend getting Disney+ and if you’re a Simpsons lover like me, they have every series on there too!

That is what I’ve been watching and reading lately, I’ve read and watched lots more, but these have been my favourites! What are your recommendations? Let me know in the comments!
