A Few Things I’m Letting Go Of For 2020

2019 has been a year of discovery for me, so much has changed for me, I’ve grown as a person, made some amazing new friends, found a job that genuinely makes me so happy, and above done what has made me happy. I have had so many curveballs thrown at me this year, I’ve battled a lot of my own personal demons, but I feel like I am finally coming out on the other side.

Even though I’ve been battling my own personal struggles, I feel like I have found more strength than I knew possible, and there are a few things I’m leaving in 2019.

1. Negative Friendships

Over the last few months, I had a bit of a wake up call, I talked bout this recently, however, I managed to cut out some seriously negative friendships, and it was exactly what I needed to do. When a friendship becomes toxic, the last thing you really need is it to continue to suck the lie out of you, now that I have got rid of those friendships I feel free.

If you don’t feel like a friendship is working for you, or if you feel like it is impacting on your life in a negative way, then cut it out.

2. Staying Silent

I’ve stayed silent about so many things over the last few years when really I should have spoken up. This year I found my voice, I have spoken up, done what makes me happy, and I am no longer taking any crap from anyone. There I no point in staying silent, I want to protect the people I care about, stand up for what I believe in and not stop until I achieve everything I want in my life.

3. Not Focusing On My Health

I have struggled to find my groove with my workouts again since working full time, however, I’ve managed to do a few full workouts over the last few months and I’m starting to find my groove again. I always feel so much better when I workout, I feel like my mind is more focused, I can concentrate better and it really helps with my mental health. I love being able to cram my yoga in before I go to work, but I also love to cycle.

4. Pressure To Be Perfect

I am a perfectionist at heart, and I genuinely cannot help it, I wish I could. I always feel this overwhelming pressure to be perfect to achieve everything in the known universe. At the end of the day, it is so important to do my best where I can, and not feel like I can’t make mistakes. At the end of the day I am only human, and I can only do so much!

5. Putting My Happiness First

Over the last year, I’ve put what others need before my own so going into 2020, I want to make sure I put my own happiness first. I’m not going to let others stop me from doing what makes me happy and above all I’m not letting anyone get in my way.

What are you leaving in 2019? Let me know in the comments!

  • Those are all really great things to let go of! I definitely have found myself putting others happiness before my own, and this year I am going to try to put myself first.

That was a great post. I would like to do away with my pessimism about long time goals I would like to accomplish. I am going to turn my focus on how to get them done instead of beating myself up for having the same old intentions.

  • I love this post darling. I’m also getting rid of negative people and making my own happiness a priority in 2020! I’m sending you so much love. 💜

Your posts are always so thought provoking – I’d like to leave anxiety behind in 2019 but I don’t think that’s happening x

Happy New Year! Great thoughts. I’m with you about speaking out. It is too easy to stay silent and feel resentful, or bottling up what is upsetting me. We can do it! Helen xo

Love this, thanks for sharing. It’s so inspiring to read. Speaking up is definitely a big one for me too, I’ve kept quiet way too long. Have an amazing year lovely. x

Love all of these! Especially the point about letting go of the pressure to be perfect. None of us are anyway and it’s a fruitless goal to shoot for! We’re all much happier when we just be ourselves. I’m letting go of all the negative energy this year and just trying to focus on the good. xx

I’m definitely leaving behind not focusing on my own well-being, in terms of doing the workouts I’m always saying I want to do and looking after my skin and just making the effort of eating really healthily etc. Starting the year with sinusitis is definitely making me realise that I’m rubbish at listening to what my body needs, and that needs to stop. Fantastic post, as usual, lovely – there are some great resolutions here – good luck with them.

The pressure to be perfect is real! I’ve found since joining the blogging community somehow I feel a lot less pressure, I think because so many people are speaking about that side of social media and it’s so good to hear! 😀

  • Ellie says:

Negative friendships are the worst! Five years ago I made a choice to cut my negative “friends” from my life and I haven’t looked back. It’s so hard to do but mannnn it’s worth it! Best of luck with everything you want to achieve this year – you’ll smash everything! ♥️

  • Oh, these are such great things to practice to let go of this year! In 2019, I felt like I learned not to be perfect and letting go of toxic friendships. It’s insane how much better you feel when you realized the friendship is done! 2020, I’d like to learn to speak up more and defend myself when something doesn’t sit right with me and not to be afraid to share my opinions.

Best of luck with your goals this year! You got this 🙂
