6 Things I Hope Happen In The Blogosphere In 2019

Blogging has changed so much over the last few years, from the photography to the trends, it has changed so much! I’m not saying it’s changed for the better or worse, but it has changed. The landscape is different now. With that being said it means that bloggers need to adapt with the changing times. I’ve bee around 4 years this year and still surprises me to this day what blogging has done for me and a lot of people. So what are some of the things that I hope happen in the blogosphere for 2019 and do you want the same?

1. Clearly declared AD’s

Now this is the minority not the majority, but seriously I hope people understand the importance of declaring your ads. It doesn’t take much and it isn’t that difficult. I actually spoke about this a while ago on my Twitter, mainly because I went through my Instagram feed to like people’s photos – as you do, and there were so many AD’s that were clearly AD’s but not declared until I clicked to comment and the declaration was in a different comment.

2. More opportunities not solely based on numbers

I’ve been so lucky to be able to work with some of my favourite brands, but I would love there to be more opportunities, not just based on numbers, but quality content. I like to think that the content I put out there is really good and I see some amazing bloggers that put out some of the most gorgeous content and I’d just love to see more opportunities out there! I know it’s important for brands to their money’s worth but there are some incredible micro influencer that do some incredible content!

3. Diversity

I’d love to see more diversity from everywhere in the blogging community! We have improved but I feel like we still have a lot further to go. I know quite a few bloggers have talked about diversity Lottie L’Amour, Grace Francesca, Shona Louise, Stephanie aka Nerd About Town & many more, but it’s so important that we support a variety of different bloggers.

We are not all the same, love a bit of rose gold and marble, we are all different and it would be amazing for everyone, including brands to understand that. The ladies above can honestly put it into words better than I ever could. Support all these amazing bloggers, use their affiliate codes, like their photos, comment on their posts and support what they’re doing.

4. Follow/Unfollow stops

Well this one is pretty much a dream, it won’t ever happen, but here’s to hoping, it’s driving me through a loop but here’s to hoping those people grow their following organically rather than being irritating.

5. Getting paid on time

I’m pretty sure when you get paid on time from a collaboration it’s probably the best feeling in the world. Even early I mean it’s one of my favourite things. Brands need to understand that blogging is hard work & a lot of time and effort goes into the gorgeous photos you see online.

Pay the people you work with the money they deserve and on time, I can’t pay my bills in cheese – although I wish I could.

6. Blogging comes back into popularity

Now of course blogging is already ridiculously popular, however I would love to see actual blog posts come back into popularity. There has been a massive increase in the popularity of Instagram and of course YouTube but in my opinion you cannot beat a blog post! Blog posts are the OG the original and when someone reads my blog post, I still get ridiculously excited!

What are the things you wish to happen in 2019 for blogging? Let me know in the comments!

  • I can definitely see blogging coming back into popularity! Getting paid on time… ugh. I can’t believe freelancers STILL have to put up with not being paid on time or not being paid at ALL?

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

It’s so annoying isn’t it? I really hope 2019 changes everything for payments! xxx

  • Zoey says:

Completely agree with you – the blogging world has changed so much. I think blogs will have a come back again. I do love Youtube and Instagram though!

I also wrote a post on why I miss the old blogging days on my blog.

I do too, I just wish there was a balance! Blogging is amazing and should never be underestimated! xxxxx

  • Mel says:

Yes yes yes to all of these.
Wouldn’t it be lovely if they all happened and blogging was a happier place.

  • Tiffany says:

Completely agree with all of these! I’m so fed up of the follow/unfollow game, my followers are all over the place on Instagram and even Twitter now. I also really hope people start declaring their ads clearly too. I’ve noticed quite a few people recently put #ad in amongst loads of other hashtags and that’s not clear at all! It’s so misleading xx

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I’m the same my darling, if you like my content follow me – if you don’t just don’t follow me! It’s so important to declare an AD! xxxx

  • Sarah says:

I want to try to get more into blogging and not have it just as a hobby xx

  • sharnah says:

I agree with every single one of these. Diversity is so important. I get what you mean 100% about wanting actual blog posts to become popular again. A lot of bloggers focus a lot on Instagram (which is perfectly fine) but I would much rather people read my blog then like my pic on insta! More opportunities not based on numbers would be a dream come true.

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

It really would be, I understand brands wanting to get their brand out there as much as possible, but smaller bloggers also create incredible content, and growing can be so hard! xxxx

  • Aaliyah says:

This is a great post! I can see blogging coming back into popularity already, there are so many amazing bloggers out there. Diversity is also so important and we always need more of it! Xx

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I really hope so, you can’t beat an actual blog post in my opinion! xxxx

  • Lucy says:

I think number 2 is definitely the one thing I hope changes in 2019 for the blogosphere! I really hope brands can look at content rather than numbers when looking for bloggers to collaborate with! But like you said, brands need to feel that they’re getting their money’s worth xx

    Lucy | http://www.lucymary.co.uk

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

It would be amazing if that did happen, but it would be so nice if brands had a mixture to be honest! xxxx

  • Lindsey says:

Aww, I love this! I agree with everything you’ve just said – fingers crossed for a great 2019 in the blogosphere! On a side note, I always adore your images in your posts!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I really hope so much darling! Oh thank you so much my angel! I really appreciate it! xxxx

  • Kayla says:

Great post Amie! I agree with every one of these points here, I’d especially love to see more diversity! I have to say I’m probably not the most diverse, but most of my favourite bloggers are and I love them for that!

    Kayla ♥︎ http://www.kaylajayne.co.uk

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Thank you so much my darling, I think diversity in the blogosphere will hopefully be a movement in 2019! xxxx

  • Some great wishes for the blogging world here Amie! As always I love your list style posts and this ones a great one as it’s something I think loads of us can relate to. I also want to see ads declared clearly and more transparently as well as more opportunities given to smaller or less known bloggers. It would be great to see more diversity too as a woman of colour in the blogging world, it’s always encouraging to see people from all walks of life, whether that be race, gender or sexuality be given a voice and a spotlight. Thanks for sharing as always lovely x

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Thank you so much my angel! I really appreciate it! I totally agree with everything you said there about diversity my darling! xxxx

  • Sahar says:

I saw GraceFitUK mentioning earlier today on twitter that influencers need to declare ‘ad’ at the start of their instagram posts to be fully transparent with their followers to comply with guidelines set! Sometimes I do see bloggers not declare ad but like you said, it’s only the minority of bloggers that do that!

I have to agree – sometimes micro influencers get pushed aside due to the number of followers they have but more often than not micro influencers actually engage with their followers rather than just having the numbers but with no engagement.

I would really love for the follow/unfollow trend to end! I usually wait about a week before looking at who recently followed me because more often than not they’ve unfollowed before the week ended!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I totally agree, I’ve been told I don’t have enough followers on my Instagram for some campaigns because I don’t have the swipe up feature. I mean I’m trying! The follow/unfollow trend really needs to go now, it’s so irritating! xxxx

  • Chloe says:

Great post, Amie! I really want to see the back of follow/unfollows as well as late payments! No need for them hahaha

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

There really is no need for them to be honest! xxxx

  • It really upsets me when I see an undisclosed ad – especially if it’s a brand that’s also approached me, so I know that it definitely was an ad. Also, I would really love for more diversity in the blogging industry!

    Jas xx | https://thoughtsfromjasmine.co.uk

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Exactly, and it doesn’t take a lot to declare it either! xxxx

  • Yes to all of these! It can be so demotivating when it’s all about numbers.

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

It’s annoying because quality doesn’t always mean lots of followers either! xxx

  • I am so glad that blogging is making a come back! I love blogging! I think it is my fav platform! I think influencer marketing is getting more serious in 2019 so all the issues regarding being paid on time should be resolved. Hopefully. But yeah, a lot can happen in just a year!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Fingers crossed about payments, it’s so irritating when brands don’t pay on time! xxx

  • Alice says:

I’m SO glad you’ve mentioned the blogging becoming back popular thing. I saw someone recently say that it bugged them when people who don’t have a blog (only Insta), call themselves bloggers. I personally think it’s a perfectly valid opinion but then someone who obviously got butt hurt by it replied saying that ‘there’s no point having a blog because no one wants to read a whole blog post to find out where I got my shoes from’. Well then why are there fashion BLOGGERS earning an entire living from doing just that?!
    Alice Xx

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I would personally say that people on Instagram are social media influencers, not bloggers but that is just me! I mean of course people want to read about fashion, someone who is genuinely interested and has a specific niche, it works! xxx

  • Casey says:

    Hey Amie,
You got this spot on! Following to unfollow is my number one pet peeve! Your blog is looking as beautiful as ever!
    Love Casey x
    http://www.casestreetx.com

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Thank you so much Casey, that means the world to me! xxxx

  • Eve Morgan says:

I totally agree there should be more opportunities not solely based on numbers. I think it’s unfair that some smaller bloggers miss out on opportunities when their content is as good as (or better than) bigger bloggers. Great post!

    Eve | http://www.evemorganinteriors.com

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Exactly, I got declined because I don’t have the swipe up feature, I mean I’m trying, and there is only so much I can do! xxxx

  • Susanne says:

Follow/Unfollow is such an annoying thing – I admit sometimes I hear to its whisper and try to be strong … Let’s just make it stop!
That being said, I love how positive your post is and I fully support positive vibes 🙂

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Thank you so much Susanne! It’s got to be the biggest downside to social media! xxxx

  • Bexa says:

I agree with all of these Amie! It would be so nice of the follow/unfollowing stopped, I’ve never seen the point in it really. Here’s hoping 2019 is a positive year in the Blogosphere, have a wonderful year lovely! <3 xx

    Bexa | http://www.hellobexa.com

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Amen my darling, here is to a positive blogosphere! xxxx

  • Stacey says:

Follow/Unfollow is my biggest pet peeve in this community. I agree, I really hope it stops. I like to follow genuine bloggers who have decent content and decent chat. I feel like I get over looked because I started over and my numbers are smaller than an ant in a garden full of beetles. (weird analogy) But I refuse to do the naughty following game.

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Oh my darling, your content is amazing! You will get there, just keep creating! xxxx

  • Soph says:

Ugh I totally feel getting paid on time, I’ve had to chase an invoice just today thats weeks overdue and it really infuriates me. I hate the follow-unfollow game to but I do think that there’s hope that it will decline- after all theres been enough bad press about it recently.

    Soph – https://sophhearts.com x

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

You really shouldn’t have to do that, imagine if it was the other way around! They would be emailing, calling, you name it! xxxx

  • Aimsy says:

I agree with all of these! It would be great if brands gave ‘smaller’ bloggers a chance and base it on their quality of work rather than the numbers! Fingers crossed the follow-unfollow game stops or become less at least.

    Aimsy xoxo

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I think there definitely needs to be more of a balance with opportunities this year! xxxx

  • I think it’s really annoying when people call themselves bloggers but don’t actually have blogs. Like, hi, we’re here…clearly still reading. Undisclosed ads are so annoying too! x

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I know what you mean, I personally call them social media influencers rather than bloggers, but that is just me! xxx

  • Shauna says:

Yes to all of this! Great post x

  • “I can’t pay my bills in cheese” had me howling! I agree with all of these points, Amie, this is a brilliant round up. I do hope blogging doesn’t go down the tubes. I know pictures and videos are powerful but for me, nothing beats the power of the written word! xx

    Lisa | http://www.lisasnotebook.com

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Thank you so much my darling! I think blogging still has so much to offer!xxx

  • Lucy says:

Amen to this! I’m really hoping that people wake up to the stupidity of follow unfollow nonsense and also to like peas, give micro influencers a chance!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Exactly gives us a moment, we create amazing stuff! xxx

  • Boxnip says:

I am in agreement with all of those! The whole follow/unfollow thing is beyond annoying! 🙂

    Sarah 🌺 || Boxnip

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

It’s one of the most annoying things about social media to be honest!xxx

  • I really enjoyed reading this blog post lovely, I hope that a lot of these changes do happen in 2019 too as I’ve noticed that the blogging world changed so much in 2017 and 2018. Fingers crossed that these changes happen soon! 🌸💜

    With love, Alisha Valerie x | http://www.alishavalerie.com

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

It really has, even since I started, which is a shame but things do change!xxx

  • I agree! Especially on the follow/unfollow fiasco, so annoying!

    Rebecca Elaine x

  • Lady Writes says:

I wish a lot of these would happen too but the invoices paid on time might be a bit too extreme – WHY DON’T BRANDS EVER PAY ON TIME!!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

It’s literally like pay me, I can’t pay my bills with cheese!xxx

  • Sian says:

I literally couldn’t have said it better myself haha! I love the idea of the OG blog coming back in – not many people seem to read actual blog posts any more, it’s all about Insta! And don’t get me wrong I love Insta, but I’d like that to be a support to my blog rather than the other way around! xo
    Sian | http://www.siankathrine.co.uk

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I really want the blog to come back, there is something so amazing and special about a blog post! xxxx

  • Lauren says:

This post is great! I definitely would like the follow and unfollow game to stop and it would be nice to see smaller bloggers have opportunities.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

It would be a dream if follow/unfollow would stop, but you never know! xxxx

  • Kate says:

I love this post! The follow/unfollow game is sooo frustrating isn’t it? Especially over on Instagram. Loved hearing your thoughts 🙂

    Kate | http://www.katelovesx.co.uk/

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

It’s the worst and the most annoying thing in the entire world! xxxx

  • Alexx says:

Love these! I’m pretty new in the blogsphere but I’ve heard so much about the follow/unfollow game. It makes me not even want to attempt Instagram!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Honestly don’t let it put you off, there are some incredibly genuine people on Instagram who are super inspiring! xxx

  • Sophie says:

“I cant pay my bills in cheese” – i ADORE this! I definitely think blogging still has a place and, for what it’s worth, i will always find the time to visit your blog! It’s one of the select few i return to regardless of what’s happening in my life.

I’m also with you on properly declared ads, although one of my hopes for 2019 (perhaps too optimistic) is that IG doesn’t become 99% ‘ad’… it seems like every other post i see on my feed now begins with this and, while i completely understand it’s positive for people to get these opportunities, it does feel a bit inauthentic – some of the brand deals anyway.

I would also love less focus on numbers, as (okay i’m going to sound like a hypocrite here!) i’d personally love to get more opportunities in blogging to work with people/brands i truly value. That is my overriding thing – VALUES over VIEWS!

  • shelley says:

I honestly hope for all the same things!
