If you saw on my social media on Monday you will have seen that honestly I wasn’t in the most fabulous of places mentally. It was one of those days where I felt challenged emotionally, I just honestly couldn’t do it. Physically getting out of bed and getting moving was a struggle but I did it somehow. I mustered the strength and I did it. What yesterday’s mentally challenging day did help me to realise is how lucky I am and that I should be more grateful everyday for everything that I have in my life.
I have so much to be grateful for in the fact I have amazing people around me who are always there no matter what, and when I am really low, they’re the people that will pick me back up again and just support me through it all.
On those bad days though when I honestly feel like I can’t do anything just taking a moment to breathe, to re-evaluate and to just centre myself really helps.
I have previously done a gratitude list on the blog (read that list here) and they really helped me to remember all of the good things, especially when I’m having a bad day. I know that a gratitude list doesn’t solve all of the issues, but it definitely gives some added comfort especially when you need it the most.
There are always going to be set back with mental health, it’s all about the practices you have in place to keep it at bay, to help you deal with it and hopefully not let it consume your life like at one point I did.
Are you having a down day today? Are you struggling with your mental health? Here are a few things you can do, that really make me feel a lot calmer, they slow the thoughts in my mind and most importantly soothe my soul.
1. Meditate – Easier said than done sometimes, but just slow breathing exercises, there are videos on YouTube which are absolutely amazing and so calming or if you have a Fitbit it has the relax option, which really helps to calm me down.
2. Turn off your phone or at least move it away from you – Amy from The Wife Edit wrote an amazing post the other day with a topic – Are Smartphones Ruining Our Relationships and it definitely got me thinking that time away from our phones is so important and really necessary. What did we do before without our phones?
3. Take time out for you – Little self care things that you can do for yourself are so important, things to chill you out, I have a list of self care things you can do for yourself right here, because you can’t look after everyone else without taking a little self care moment for yourself!
4. Immerse yourself in a book – I did this yesterday, because immersing yourself in a book can help you to just have time away from everything that is going on and to just chill. Books are such an incredible way to chill.
5. Talk to the people around you – I know talking can be really really hard, because you worry that people won’t understand, but there are so many people who get where you’re at right now, get how you’re struggling and wouldn’t want you to struggle alone. You are not alone. I promise you!
Appreciate the good days and the bad days, the bad days challenge you and the good days make you appreciate everything in your life. Stay strong it will be okay!

All of these tips are great! Music is one of my favourite ways to turn a bad day around. The bad days will make you stronger, and when you come out on the other side, you appreciate the good days so much more!

These tips are crazy helpful. I meditate when things really get on top of me. I also find an early night, I’m taking crazy early, always helps me too!

These are such good tips, and so often things that seem obvious but we forget when the brain cloud is taking over!

All wonderful tips, Amie. Glad to hear you’re feeling a bit better than you did the other day. We certainly all get days like that – I’m semi having one of those today actually. Something happened last night and it’s deflated me but I’m trying my best today and taking it slow. Self care days are so important xxx

I love to meditate!
Me too! It is so good! xxxx
I spend as much time as possible away from my phone at home – whenever I’m downstairs I don’t take it with me most of the time. I also try to read regularly, but I don’t always get a chance.
