6 Things Blogging Made Me Realise About Myself

It was my blogs birthday the other day (there is also a giveaway post here if you fancy entering!) and it made me realise something, blogging really has made me realise so much about myself, the way my mind works and also how I cope in certain situations. A memory came up on Facebook the other day with a really old blog post, literally back when I first started and I looked at it and thought – wow. I remember being so proud of that post, now looking back I think damn I could have done better! So what have I learned?

1. There are many ways to be creative

Now if you know me, I can’t draw a straight line at all, I can’t draw at all, I mean my stick people look bloody awful, it’s painful trust me. I’m better on Paint and just doing the swirly lines and then clicking fill. Anyway, I’ve realised I absolutely adore photography, I adore writing and just being me. I’ve seen such an improvement in my writing, and it makes me ridiculously proud just to see my journey!

2. I take people’s opinions to heart

I have always been that kind of person, but since delving into the blogging world I’ve realised that I take things to heart way too often. I wear my heart on my sleeve, I’m a very emotional person, I only have to see a kitten and I end up crying. Seriously why are cats so cute. I like people to like what I do, I like them to like me as a person, when people don’t like me, I end up overthinking everything. I know you can’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but you know, I try.

3. Time away is necessary

I like to stick to a schedule, that is me, that is what works for me and my mind overall, however to come up with ideas, I need time away. Sometimes when I’ve had time away (mainly playing Sims or shouting at people cheating on Battlefield 1) I have blog post ideas for days and that is exactly the way that I like it! I can bulk write and just enjoy the process.

4. I can achieve anything I want

With my own mental health journey, I have felt like I am not good enough, I can’t do everything I want to, obviously that isn’t the case, but that is where I’ve been with my journey and it has sucked so much. If I put my mind to it, I can do it, and I’m not gonna let anything stop me anymore! I will achieve everything I want and more!

5. Being organised is my thing

I love having a plan and being organised with my schedule, especially with my blog posts, I have everything written down in my diary, my bullet journal and everything, and it makes me feel like I’m getting somewhere. Having a plan and then ticking off all those things that are on the plan, that is so therapeutic.

6. Writing things down in a blog post helps

I’ve written quite a few therapeutic blog posts over the years, especially about mental health for example my social media anxiety post, to the people who bullied me as a child and I’m stronger than 5 years ago and it has helped me to put my thoughts out there, maybe help others and to just share my thoughts. It stops them from rattling around in my head and overthinking everything!

It is amazing that blogging can do something like that for us! Writing helps us to get all of our emotions out and deal with it our lives xxxx

  • Erin says:

YES! I love this! I didn’t think I was creative in the slightest, I cannot draw to save myself. But give me a blog photo to do and all of a sudden I am (Even if I don’t realise it!) I need to start forward planning more, I find I am organised in the now, but not in the next week – which I need to change! 🙂

Exactly, blogging brings out different ways of being creative, you don’t have to just draw and paint to be creative! xxxx

Blogging is an activity that focuses on you and it’s such a good way to know more about yourself. I’m a planner as well, thriving in organizing blog posts and planning other things, and I didn’t know this before I started blogging. Now I use a bullet journal and plan regularly.

I’ve also learnt that I blog for myself and don’t look at stats much. I see other bloggers post about how to not see stats but I hardly see my stats and I’m happy with even however low they are because in the end I’m blogging for me. I write blog posts I want to read and I love self-reflection. I’m glad I don’t take views to heart.

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Bullet journaling is my favourite, getting pages up, getting organised, oh it gives me such a rush! I know what you mean about stats, it can be hard to not get caught up in them, but it’s important to just appreciate the writing process xxxxx

  • Great post, as always Amie! I think blogging can teach us all a lot of valuable lessons xxx

I also take people’s opinions to heart and I have had to grow a seriously thick skin since starting blogging!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I’m the worst at that, but I think you have to have a thick skin to blog. It is such a difficult industry! xxxx

  • Sian says:

I love your point about creativity – I used to write myself off as a creative person because I thought you had to be ‘arty’ which I’m really not, but you can be creative in so many ways! It’s all about having ideas and imagination! xo

  • Amy Jones says:

I’ve definitely found that writing things down in a blog post really helps, even if I don’t publish it. I always like to have it to read and see what’s on my mind down on paper (or a page), and it sometimes helps me rationalise an otherwise anxiety inducing situation.

Great post! I can certainly relate to this, I always felt like I didn’t have any talent and I am not very creative either. But, being able to write with a nice flow, express myself through writing and sharing my passions as well as being organised is actually a talent too! Blogging is great in the sense that you can be just you and meet people like minded, share things you like and discover new things 💕
