The Rollercoaster That Is Body Confidence

I’ve talked a lot about body confidence on my blog, right now, and we all know that looking through social media, through magazines, we don’t always feel like we are represented – I know I don’t. I feel like sometimes when I look at a magazine, I feel like I see all these beautiful people inside these magazines, and I know it shouldn’t affect me, but it does. I’m sure we would all want to feel body confident all the time, but it doesn’t always work like that, does it?

There are so many things that cause me to be on a rollercoaster when it comes to my body, I wish it was one of those things where you just woke up in the morning, reminded myself that I am beautiful inside and out, and carried on slaying my day. Unfortunately I’m not that person, I am the person that overthinks pretty much everything and every scenario that you can think of when it comes to body confidence is pretty much what goes through my head.

I overheard someone while I was shopping the other day and they said basically oh people who aren’t self confident are basically looking for compliments. That is 100% not the case, anyone could tell me they love my outfit or I look lovely, but it’s about how I am feeling inside about myself, about my body and just feeling like I wasn’t enough. I’m the kind of person that my husband could tell me I look beautiful and I would still feel so low about the way I look.

Not having confidence is honestly exhausting on so many levels, for example clothes shopping can be hell for me, especially if I’m with my husband who will say I look amazing in anything, but I will feel lower than cat paws. You are constantly thinking, what if this is too short, what if this, what if that, it is bloody draining.

But do you know what I’m making a change. I can’t do it anymore, I’m getting my body confidence back, I want to do what is best for, I want to be happy with what I wear, I want to enjoy clothes shopping again without overthinking every outfit choice, stop holding myself back from wearing what I want because I’m plus size.

Being plus size shouldn’t limit me, I should be able wear whatever I feel comfortable in, push my comfort zone and just be me.

When it comes to the way I feel about my body, my body keeps me alive everyday, keeps me doing all the things that I love more than anything, sharing cat photos, watching cat videos, you know the norm. I need to learn to appreciate my body for what it does but also learning to love every lump, bump, stretch mark, because those small things make my body incredible.

We will all have good and bad days, but do you know what I’m embracing them, and appreciating the bad days because I will learn from them. It’s all a learning curve, learning that there are no rules in fashion, you’re beautiful and you can wear whatever you damn want!

Do you relate to my feelings right now? Let me know in the comments!

  • Oh my gosh, I can relate to literally every single thing that you’ve said babe and personally although I hate feeling like this and it upsets me that you also feel this way, in an odd way I’m so happy to know that I’m not alone in this. Thank you so much for sharing something so honest beautiful. I personally think you’re gorgeous and would swap bodies with you within seconds, I adore you and I’m sending you so much love. 🌸✨

You’re never alone angel, I think when you live in your body all the time, you end up feeling even more uncomfortable because there is no escape and you don’t end up realising all the amazing things your body does for you! xxxx

I feel this post so much! I am so so so up and down with my body confidence. It’s no one’s fault but my own, my boyfriend loves me and thinks I’m crazy but I see something in the mirror that apparently isn’t there. Some days I’m so happy but 5 our of 7 I hate myself!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

It’s so tough isn’t it? I think where we live in our bodies all the time, we know every inch of our bodies that make us feel uncomfortable! xxxx

  • I desperately struggle with body confidence and low self esteem. It’s my biggest issue and it’s so damaging. I can be totally fine then see/hear one little thing that sends me into an hour long melt-down. This happened earlier in the month actually. It’s an ongoing process, this body confidence thing. There will always be times when you feel up or down. It’s learning how to deal with it that’s important 🙂

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I 100% agree my lovely, dealing with it is important and taking small steps towards feeling more body confident! xxxx

  • Ezara says:

I have to agree, I struggle with body confidence so much, this post is amazing and so positive. Nice to know people feel the same as to me. BTW you look stunning and no one should tell you otherwise, love your jumper

Low self-confidence is incredibly draining! You should be so proud of yourself for finding this strength within!

YAAAAAS QUEEEEEEEN! I love how honest you’ve been in this – because everyone has days where they feel ridiculously low, even if they’re normally confident! I’m the same, I hate clothes shopping because I feel like nothing ever fits me right and I shouldn’t be wearing certain things and blah blah blah. It’s exhausting. I’ve found I feel so much better when I’m eating right and exercising though, weirdly enough – just because I’m looking after my body! xo

I know what you mean, just looking after your body changes everything, I think where I’ve lost over 10 dress sizes, it has changed the way I feel about my entire body! xxxx

You’re so right! It’s exhausting when you don’t have self confidence, and you constantly overthinking every decision. I’ve been there too, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It sounds like you’ve turned a corner, and that takes real guts. Well done X

I feel like body confidence isn’t something that ever gets easier – when I was younger I thought when I ‘grew up’ I’d be more comfortable with my body, but if anything I’m even more aware. I’m trying my best to accept myself and love my body, but like you said there are good days and bad days. Thanks for sharing – it’s nice to know it’s not just me who struggles with this!

I’m so glad I’m not alone angel, I thought the same to be honest, I thought that I would be this ridiculously confident person when I hit adulthood, but it didn’t happen. I’m just trying to work through the bad days and appreciate what my body does! xxxxx

  • Amy Jones says:

I definitely relate to you right now! I have no body confidence at all, even though I know that I can never look like that. I should be happy in my own body, but I’m not. I have spotty skin and lots of fat everywhere, which I hate. But props to you for making a change.

Darling, you’re beautiful inside and out, small steps forward can make a difference! xxxx

  • Emma Rankin says:

Wish i was confident. I’m hating my body right now, on a diet to sort it but i just hate buying expensive plus sized clothes, its so unfair. you look amazing though.

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I’m the same angel, some of the plus size clothes are so expensive, I spend a small fortune because of that. xxxx

  • Body confidence is tough and even talking about it is hard for me, so I’m proud of you for writing this blogpost! I can resonate with a lot of things you said. Great blogpost!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Thank you lovely, i’s nice to know that I’m not alone in the body confidence struggle! xxxx

  • Ruth says:

I can 100% relate to this. I’ve had many mornings where I’ve just sat and cried because I felt like nothing looked good on me. I have the sweetest boyfriend who tries desperately to make me see that I’m being unreasonable but like you said, what other people says makes little difference. Even though I know that, I’m still going to tell you that you look great and seem lovely so I hope you can start to see it yourself someday.

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I know what you mean angel, the struggle is real and it doesn’t matter what anyone says, it’s the way you feel. Thank you so much my darling, that means the world to me! xxxx
