12 Random Acts Of Kindness To Make Someone’s Day

We all need some kindness in our lives right? I was always taught as a child to treat people the way that you would want to be treated. I like to think that I’m that friend that if they needed to talk to someone, they needed some support, they would know I’m just a message away. You never know what someone else is going through, you never know what battle someone is fighting, so doing something nice for someone can really brighten their day, their spirits and overall make them feel so much better. So what can you do?

1. If someone is unwell send them something to cheer them up – Personally brownies always make me feel better (my very easy triple chocolate vegan brownie recipe is here) or maybe some flowers to brighten up a room! It’s the little things that make a big difference.

2. Wake up a bit earlier to make your partner a cup of tea or coffee before work – I do this with Paul sometimes, and the first cup of tea or coffee is always the best cup isn’t it?

3. Donate clothes that you don’t fit into anymore but are still good to wear to charity – Not only does this help you but it will help others to get good quality clothes and give a little back to charity. Charities are always looking for donations and a good clear out is always a good idea.

4. If you see someone on social media sounding down, message them – As someone who frequently has bad days, a little message can make someone’s day. Even if they message you about it, sometimes just knowing someone is there really helps!

5. Add a little more into your shop for the food bank – Knowing people are struggling to put food on the table breaks my heart, I always try my best to add in a few bits and pieces into the shop. Some rice, some baked beans, pasta sauces and some biscuits. They don’t need to be expensive, whatever is on offer or you can afford. It’s the little things.

6. Give a compliment to someone – I always try to give a little compliment where possible to people, if their work is good, if they look amazing, their outfit is good. Little compliments make a difference to someone’s confidence.

7. Hold the door open – I always do this if someone is coming in behind me, or if someone elderly is coming through or someone is trying to struggle through with a buggy.

8. Buy some flowers for someone you love as a thank you – My mum loves flowers and buying her a little bunch of flowers as a thank you is always a good way to cheer someone up!

9. Cook a nice mean for someone you love – My husband is such a hard worker, he prefers to cook and to be honest I don’t argue with him, I love baking, but sometimes just to give him a little break cooking a nice meal can be a pleasant change so he can jut chill out!

10. Smile at someone when you walk past – I know you’re not supposed to talk to strangers but if you see someone doesn’t look particularly happy, give them a smile, a smile from a stranger can brighten a day!

11. If someone has only a few items, let them go first – I actually did this the other day, there is no point in making them wait if they only have a few items, a few seconds isn’t going to make a difference is it?

12. Put some change in the charity box – I normally do that with my left over change, especially if it is like in 50p or 20ps, a little donation makes a difference!

This is so important! A lot of times I feel too shy to compliment someone when I want to, but I really need to try to do it more often because when I am on the receiving end of a kind little gesture, it can truly make my day! I also love #10, smiling and making eye contact with people just instantly makes me happier 🙂

You’re right, it definitely can make someone’s day, particularly if they’re feeling down. I remember once I was having a really awful day mentally, but the man at Costa was really nice to me and it definitely helped me feel a little bit better. I’m going to be using the food bank idea a lot more when doing food shops in future.

Such a lovely blog post! When I was pregnant, we moved to London and had to use food bank in the first week. I was so thankful to the person who had donated some M&S chocolate (not even the cheap stuff!) because it was such a luxury I couldn’t reason buying for myself. It shows how much little acts of kindness really mean so much
