How to have a positive outlook? Having a positive outlook is so hard, especially given everything that we have been through given the pandemic. However, there are a few simple life hacks that we can implement to have a more positive outlook on life and what is going on.
There are lots of things in our life that we genuinely cannot control, but I think the way that you react to things and your mindset can make a difference. So how can you have a more positive outlook?
01. Look at the bigger picture
Sometimes it can be really easy to focus on the small things. Those little things that are really irritating when they go wrong. But those little things that go wrong, did they matter? If they mattered, then how can you change to the outcome. For example was it out of your control? If it was out of your control then there is honestly nothing that you could have done. Take a deep breath. Breathe. Remind yourself that when a door closes, a window opens, this is not the end of a journey. Just the start of a new one.
02. Find your daily joys
Sometimes we all really need a pick me up right? There are so many amazing things that we can do to pick ourselves up for example:
- practice gratitude daily
- listen to your favourite music
- workout
- have a large cup of coffee
- appreciate the people around you.
These small daily joys can honestly just perk up your day, and I feel like they can really help you to have a more positive outlook on your life.
A couple of months ago, I started a new hashtag on Instagram #findingpositivitydaily which I honestly want to be a safe and joyous palce for everyone. I wanted it to be an incredibly positive place, if you fancy sharing your images, please use the hashtag!
03. Look for the positive things happening
When things go wrong it can definitely be so easy to focus on the negative things that are going on. Sometimes we need to change our focus, look around you what positive things are happening right now. It doesn’t have to be a huge thing, it can be good things that are happening to you, make a list.
We can’t always avoid the negative, but can start looking for the good things first.

04. Let go of negative what if’s
There is always this quote from Pocahontas from Grandmother Willow that puts things into perspective:
“what if the sky turns to fire and your nose falls off?”
Looking at the negative what if’s only limits everything that you want to achieve. I’ve learned that lately it is so important to think of the amazing things that could happen if I just put myself out there, and stop letting fear dictate what I want to achieve.
05. Surround yourself with positive people
I have talked about this a lot lately, and I feel this is still incredibly important. The people that you surround yourself with are the people who will lift you up when you need it the most. They’re the people who support you when times get tough and make you feel like you could take on the world if you need it. Let go of people who pull you into a negative headspace or change your outlook. Your happiness is more important.
These are things that I’ve been implementing lately, and I feel so much better for it! What are your tips on having a more positive outlook?

One thing I do every morning is after I wake up, I think of my day ahead and find something that I’m looking forward to, even if it is something as simple as washing my hair or going for a walk! It really does help my mindset for the day ahead x

These are some great tips love. I had a little wobble yesterday but it was quickly turned around when I thought about the bigger picture & what really matters. Turns out I needn’t have worried as although the situation isn’t ideal, I’ve managed to sort it today. I really like the hashtag you’ve created too! I’ll be sure to use that in future.

Hi Amie,
I think being positive is hugely important – I believe that it can actually help you physically as well as mentally. The two are linked.
Some great tips there. Somebody once told me that most people fall into one of two categories; they are either radiators (people who radiate positive energy) or drains (people who drain all positive energy from you with their negative outlook). Find lots of radiators!
Daily joys help me, one way to not write off an entire day because one silly little thing changed it. There’s still lots of positives xx
Looking for the good in everyday helps me so much too x
Love these suggestions hun, especially looking at the bigger picture and looking for the positive. It really does help change your mindset.
Brilliant tips here, I love this post! Letting go of the what-ifs are so important and surrounding yourself with positive people can help a lot x
Very Interesting way to look at life from this point of view, amazing!
I loved this post! It made my mood just reading it.
I try to get out, breath fresh air and realize how not important something that makes me sad or angy is. I guess it is the same as your look at the bigger picture. Thank you for sharing this!
Negative what ifs are awful, and they can really plague you! Thank you for sharing x
Fab post Amie. I love practicing gratitude. Practicing gratitude is one of the best ways to have a positive outlook. I try to be thankful for everything and it has helped me so much. Thank you for sharing.
These are great positivity tips! I try to read one positive affirmation a day and journal for positive encouragement. Sometimes I feel down but not as much.
Amazing tips! I’ve been struggling with not worrying about the negative what ifs for a while now, but I think I’m finally starting to live in the moment more and focus on the daily joys. Thanks for sharing x
Love all of these tips and can’t agree more with looking at the bigger picture! The small negatives can easily add up, but if you step back you can see the true size of the rest. Also looking for positives helps a lot x
It can be so easy to fall/get trapped in a negative cycle. With the ups and downs life throws at us sometimes we need some great tips like this — thanks for the reminders!
Really helpful but effective tips. I find finding the small good things each day and expressing gratitude in abundance is always so effective!
Amie, this was a great post – working on my positive outlook and, while not easy, I am finding that even the small things can add up and make my day slightly more pleasant.
You hit the nail on the head with surround yourself with positive people. Positivity breeds positivity!!
Your tips are excellent and so needed right now. I usually have a really positive outlook on life but life is kind of tough right now so this is really going to help. Thank you!

Great post and some lovely tips! It’s always so hard to not think negatively sometimes. Taking that step back and breathe helps’
These are great tips. It can be so hard to look on the bright side when seemingly everything goes wrong. Personally, I like to write down things I am grateful for when I am struggling to be positive. Thanks for the other tips! Em x
