It’s Okay Not To Be Okay & To Ask For Help

It has been a rough couple of months, I’ve had a bit of rollercoaster ride with my emotions, and it basically feels like I’ve had the weight of the world on my shoulders for no reason apart from my own. It is that overwhelming feeling that you can’t shake and it sucks. You can wake up only having a couple of hours sleep and feel like you’re being crushed by the expectations that you set for yourself in your head.

I’ve had those moments where you are trying to take a few deep breaths, put life into perspective but it isn’t always that easy is it?

You can’t see through the brain fog, because your mind is thinking of all of the things that could go wrong, what has happened and where everything has gone wrong.

When you’re feeling like this it is probably one of the worst feelings in the world because you cannot get away from it.

Last week however it got to a point where I genuinely needed to ask for help, I needed my loved ones, and my friends. It wasn’t the fact that I had admitted defeat, I’d just got to a point where I felt like I just cried, I cried because I couldn’t deal with this crushing feeling.

Sometimes to get through anything you genuinely need the people around you to lift you up and basically remind you that no matter what you can genuinely can get through your hardest patch.

Lately I felt like I had made the biggest mistakes, I was failing at everything and I couldn’t control what was happening in my life. I just couldn’t do it and I didn’t know how to get back to where I was, even a week before that moment when I felt like I was in control and slaying my life choices.

I spoke to the people around me, especially the people that I work with, and they have made me realise a lot. I have spoken a lot about the people I work with and just how genuinely grateful I am for them. They understand me, they genuinely get me and they always make me smile, even on my most difficult days.

When you feel like you feel like you genuinely cannot cope, you fully understand the phrase a problem shared is a problem halved, and that is where I feel like I am at right now.

I’m changing my thought process too, I’m trying to put all that good energy where possible out into the world, radiate positive vibes where I can and I’m not saying that is always possible. Don’t get me wrong, there are days when this whole positive thinking malarkey just isn’t possible, but I really need to do everything I can to make sure that I get out of this headspace.

Not being okay is absolutely okay, asking for help is okay, and talking about how you feel is always going to be okay. Sometimes you need a reminder to say do you know what I can get through this.

I’m in a slightly better headspace at the moment, I’m not perfect, but I’m working on it and that is the important thing..

The reason I am writing this post is because it is therapeutic for me. Not everything has to be okay all of the time.

I’ve been through a similar thing this week where last Sunday I found myself bawling my eyes out. Everything was getting too me and I couldn’t cope… Luckily my hubby was there with me and even though I still feel overwhelmed, I know that sometimes I need to have time to deal with my emotions. I hope you feel better soon!

I’m going through a similar phase right now in my personal life… some things really humble you and it’s hard to get back to that point where you feel like you’re slaying it! The way I see it, the more positivity around you, the quicker you’ll get your pizazz back.

You’re absolutely right Amie, it’s ok not to be ok all of the time, sometimes we just need to take ourselves away and just focus on getting ourselves back to normal. I hope you find your sass again soon lovely xx

  • I hate those feelings, it’s awful! I’m sorry you’ve been having a tough time recently but it sounds like you have some incredible people in your life to help perk you up again, which is always something to be thankful for x

I am sorry to know you are going through a rough time, and hope you find your sunshine soon! I know what it is like to be tossed around on an emotional raft, but I love that you have written all the feelings out, and accepted it is okay not to be okay.

A mentality many of us could do well to adopt!

  • Glad you found writing about your feelings therapeutic. I find the same sometimes. Nobody is okay 100% of the time x

You’re quite right it doesn’t. I have a lot of not okay days and that’s okay but I am terrible at asking for help or even admitting that I need it. I try to do it all on my own. I’ve just always found it so hard to ask other people, even those closest to me, for help of any kind. I know I need to work on that. 🙂

This is such a positive post as it reminds us all that you don’t have to be your best all the time!

We all have off moments and it really is okay to ask for help and not feel that you have to be 100% at all times.

    Thanks for sharing!

I know the feeling. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed at the moment and beating myself up for it, which isn’t helpful. It went on for a while until I reached out to a friend and got a few things off my chest. Although the thoughts are still at the back of my mind, it definitely helped.
