25 Things More Important Than The Number On A Scale

It’s the season for diet culture. It seems like every advert on TV has some diet plan, buy this, lose weight quickly, and to be honest it is exhausting seeing it all. It feels like it is pretty much all consuming seeing all these diet ad’s on TV. The other reason I’m writing this is because someone made a comment about my weight while I was out – not even to my face. They thought they were being quiet but saying I need to eat less cake & more fruit, I was looking at protein bars. What is wrong with the world?

Since when was it okay to question the way someone looks and what they should be doing with their body? I work out 5 times a week, I eat healthy and lift weights, I’m healthy and happy. There are more important things in the world than the number on a scale & the number on your clothes, they also don’t define  your happiness.

1. Family & my husband – My family are everything to me, I’ll be forever grateful for them. Paul has been my rock through everything.

2. Friends – Friends are the glue that keeps your head on straight and if you saw my post the other day about Greys Anatomy (read that here) friends can also become your family.

3. Making memories – It’s so important to make memories with the people you love.

4. Cups of coffee – I’m definitely more of a people person when I’ve had a cup of coffee.

5. Making time for self care – I’ve not been the greatest at that lately, but my husband has been pushing me to make sure that I get better at making time for relaxing.

6. Warm cookies – Warm cookies are the best kind of cookies in my opinion, especially when the chocolate is still melting.

7. Pet cuddles – Whether I have cuddles with BB-8 or the cats, it’s amazing how much better a pet cuddles can make your day.

8. Getting lost in a good book – I’m currently doing the GoodReads challenge – I’ve got my current to be read list here and I’m loving having a read at night.

9. Saying no – Learning to say no is a massive thing for me, but it’s an important thing to do when you need to make more time for yourself and other things in your life.

10. Potatoes – Anything that comes in potato form, I’m all about that.

11. Movie days with snacks – There is nothing better than having a movie day with snacks and forgetting about the world.

12. Fairy lights – They always make everything ridiculously cosy.

13. Doing what makes you happy – There is nothing more important than your own happiness.

14. Laughing till your sides hurt – Having people around you that make you laugh till your sides hurt is definitely something I appreciate.

15. Going out for dinner – Going out for dinner is one of my favourite things to do – especially pizza or Indian food.

16. Treating your body well – Your body is your best friend, treat it with kindness.

17. Naps – Let’s be honest taking a nap is the best thing to pass the time.

18. Your health – Your health isn’t defined by that number, nor is anything else for that matter.

19. Long walks – I love a long walk just to clear my head, it can really helps me to get centred and focused.

20. When your phone charge lasts longer than a day – That is a miracle of modern science, but it does happen on occasions with my phone!

21. Taking Time Away – I’ve definitely been doing that a lot lately but I’m going to be doing it a lot more, mainly because I notice a massive difference in the way I feel when I do.

22. Being honest with yourself about how you feel – I’ve not done this as much lately, when in reality I should have done, but if there is something wrong, be honest with yourself, talk about it, including to the people you love. They care about you.

23. Treating yourself – We all need to treat ourselves sometimes, whether it is to something we have wanted for a while or just a treat of a nice hot bath with some lovely scented candles. Regardless treat yourself.

24. Being yourself no matter what – You should never be anything else other than yourself and don’t let anyone else tell you differently.

25. Curling up in cosy clothes – Cosy clothes are the best kind of clothes if I’m honest and when the weather gets cold I need all the cosy layers known to man.

Not all of these are linked to size, they’re also linked to happiness and at the end of the day your size, the scale and anything like that doesn’t mean you’re more or less of a beautiful person. Life doesn’t revolve around a number on a scale.

I LOVE this post!💚 I agree with pretty much everything haha. I haven’t weighed myself in about 5 years, it’s not important to me anymore (apart from doctors) and I used to be obsessed so I just had to stop! I love going for walks and warm cookies are amazing 😍 haha. Oh and I love your hair colour btw. Great post xx

love this post! what an ass hat that person was for making a comment about your weight! it’s just common decency to not comment on anyone’s weight and i really don’t understand why that can be such a hard concept to grasp. either way i’m so sorry you had to deal with that, but what a great way to turn it around into a positive. i have to agree warm cookies are the best, my mom is always question why the batches keep getting smaller between baking times and it’s bc i’m eating all the freshly baked cookies lol! x

  • Britt K says:

This is a great post with such an important message. I honestly don’t know when we made the shift, but today’s society seems to see the weight issue as black and white – either you embrace everyone’s weight and encourage them regardless of what may have led to it (including people who are facing serious health concerns) or you judge and criticize people openly… Why can’t we find that middle ground where we focus instead on loving, accepting and encouraging people to be happy and healthy instead?

I definitely agree with everyone else – love this blog post!! I hate diets, I think from the age of 14 I was told I needed to diet. I look at my photos back then and I wasn’t even very overweight, I was just curvy. Since then I must’ve tried every diet in the book, every fad diet, you name it, I’ve probably tried it. It made me nothing but miserable. So I absolutely agree with everything you have said, wholeheartedly!! Happiness is what counts, not numbers on a scale. 🙂

Great post and I love how positive it is.
I’ve tried hard not to be obsessed by numbers, whether that’s on the scales or the label on my clothes. But growing up we were brainwashed into thinking “thin was in” and for a time it was something i strived for. It seems silly now. I have a goal weight in mind at the moment but that number isn’t everything anymore, I’d rather be fit and healthy.
