I’ve been working so hard on my blog and Instagram content lately, I have been feeling so motivated, so inspired to just continue to improve my blog, improve my photographs and make sure that I still share what I want online. I went through a massive phase about 3 months ago where I was feeling so uninspired, I didn’t want to blog and I wondered whether I was going to genuinely continue with blogging, which genuinely breaks my heart to write but you know what I mean. So what genuinely helped me to get to this place where I’m writing again?
I have to admit before I started blogging I never thought of myself as someone who was creative, I mean of course I used to like writing, I liked photography but I always thought that to be creative you needed to draw, sew, paint or something like that.
So when I got myself in such a rut, in a massive circle of I can’t figure out what I want to do, and that spark of inspiration doesn’t seem to be sparking anymore and to be honest it just makes me so emotional, so what do I do?
1. Change your surroundings and routine
I’m one of those people that don’t really change my surroundings too much, but when you’re stuck in the same spot, trying to get stuff done, it can be a struggle. If you’re trying to write some blog posts, move to a different spot, listen to different music, and just change your surroundings and routine. Sometimes a change can literally give you a little nudge in the right direction that you need!
2. Get out the house
Let’s be honest when you’re cooped up in the house isn’t always the ideal for getting the creative juices flowing. Sometimes we need to just see some people, not necessarily speak to anyone if you don’t want to, but just be around people. I’ve had so many ideas just by people watching. Sometimes we just need to be around other people!
3. Don’t force it
When you try to force the creativity it makes everything worse and genuinely it makes me feel like a pile of poo when I try and push it. Forcing yourself to be creative only delays it even more and being creative should be something you enjoy, not that you feel like you need to do!
4. Bullet Journaling
I have been actively bullet journaling for about 2 years now and it helps me so much! I literally feel like I’m able to share all my thoughts, have structure in my life and write a list of things that I need to do. Being able to write stuff down in my journal also really helps me too! Not only that having a bullet journal means that I have another way to be creative, I can do my fancy writing (it’s not that great) and decorate it!
5. Reading your old blog posts
I’ve looked back over my old blog posts a lot lately, and besides cringing and looking at how far I’ve come, it gives me that fire back. Even though those blog posts might be slightly cringy, it really does show me how much I’ve improved, the passion I have for writing and to get to back to where I want to be! I mean I get so excited seeing how passionate I am about my posts!
So what are your top tips for finding your inspiration again? Let me know in the comments!

I feel like I have been in a bit of a rut recently but eating better has made me feel better xx
Eating better definitely helps, it gives me a creative nudge too – especially when it comes to recipes! xxxx
I completely agree about reading old posts! I was starting to feel a bit glum so I went back and read them and remembered how exciting I found it. I ended up drafting up a new post and writing down 5 ideas, so it definitely sparked something! Also, I do lazy bullet journalling – it doesn’t look pretty at all, but it does motivate me.
That is amazing! Well done my darling! xxxx
I go through ruts like this, but then when I am feeling creative the ideas seem to come so fast I don’t have enough time to devote to them. I’m glad you got over wanting to possibly give up blogging, because you write so well! I’m a big believer that staying in the same surroundings too long can stifle creativity.
I totally agree my lovely, we all need a spark to light our creativity candle and new surroundings definitely help! xxx
This post is what I have needed recently, I have had no inspiration and motivation to blog what so ever. Can’t wait to get out of the blogging rut.

I’m in such a big rut at the moment, all summer has been a rut, and It’s been a complete nightmare. I cannot wait to get back on track though, and bullet journaling definitely helps!

I like to go back over old blog posts and look back at my Instagram feed to find stuff I loved creating and use it to inspire me again x
That is such a good way to do it! Instagram can be so inspiring in terms of photos too! xxx
I love Pinterest for that too, and taking photos always inspires me!
Photos are always so inspiring! xxxx
I have found reading my old posts to be a big help when im stuck! these are all great tips
Reading old posts can be so inspiring! xxx
I definitely feel like I have lost inspiration of late. I think mainly due to illness and taking so many meds. Plus, for some reason, I always want to write or think of things as I’m falling asleep and then never remember then the next morning – I need to write them down!
I am trying to do the same too, we all need to write stuff down when ideas come to mind! You’re doing an amazing job with your blog my lovely! xxxx
Love these tips! I feel like my biggest issue when I’ve felt this way was definitely just staying cooped up for too long. I love getting out and even just taking my laptop to go write at coffee shops and stuff, but I feel bad leaving my dog alone at home more than I have to. Thankfully my boyfriend is able to help me with him now so I get a little more time outside of the apartment.

Love this idea, a change of scenery is always good and can sometimes inspire you in a way sitting in the same spot at home wouldn’t!! 😀 xx
Exactly, getting out of your comfort zone is always important! xxxx

Thank you so much my lovely that means the world! I know what you mean, we all grow as writers though and everything changes! xxxx
This is a really great post! I’ve only just got my inspiration back after a break and I’ll definitely be using some of these tips (especially the changing routine one!) as a way of keeping the ideas flowing. Thanks for the inspiration boost! 🙂
I think we all need breaks sometimes, it really helps! xxxxx
I absolutely love some of these ideas! It’s so easy to get into a creative rut when you put so much effort into your content for so long, I’ll definitely try some of these next time I get stuck
So glad you will use this if you get stuck! xxxx
Love these tips! I find it so hard to be proactive when I’m in a rut but it’s something I’m working on and trying to be more self motivated. Thanks for sharing lovely xx
Sometimes you just need to stop putting pressure on yourself and just go with the flow! xxxx
My tip for finding motivation is to go on a walk, I come up with so many good ideas on walks! I also change my music as you said – listen to something new or something I haven’t heard in ages. Another great tip is to drink lots of water, that really helps to engage your brain and may be just the fuel you need.

I think a good walk can make the world of difference! xxxx
I wish I had read this post months ago! I ended up deleting my original blog because I felt in a rut but I wish I’d tried some of these ideas first. Now on my brand new blog, I will definitely keep these in mind for when I’m struggling.
Oh that is such a shame my lovely! It’s a fresh start with your new blog, enjoy it and have fun with it! xxxx
I’ve been struggling with this a lot recently, but I’ve found changing my surroundings has helped massively – that and a good playlist / or a walk x

A good playlist makes the world of difference to me! xxxx
I’ve just had a weekend of blogging after getting my muse back and being determined to sort it out once and for all, and then this cropped up on Twitter and it felt like fate telling me to keep going with it. The perfect reminder at just the right time!
Lovely tips, Amie. Leaving the house is my personal weak point since I am kind of an introvert who writes better when alone but you have a point there. Sometimes, you need to live a bit to feel inspired.
Honestly, I’m so stuck right now. Okay, maybe not stuck, I just ran out of the ideas and now every idea I think of I feel like it’s bad and I bin it almost instantly. Okay, I’m stuck. I really want to write about something that I love and body positivity is that thing, it’s just that sometimes I don’t know what to actually write about….
Thanks for sharing, it’s an amazing post! Keep going x
I feel like I am totally stuck in a rut right now! I’ve been actually thinking of doing some bullet journalling, I guess the problem for me is that I never stick to anything consitently 🙂 Thanks for sharing these tips, I will keep them in mind.

It sound silly to say, but I just restarted my blog after years away. My vision is so clear, but finding the words still seems hard. I guess being cooped up at home during a global pandemic doesn’t help, but agh. I just want to scream. I want to write for me, but I want to write for those like me that need direction or support. It makes me so mad at myself. It’s as though I shut myself down before I even put pen to paper (so to speak). I wrote my intro post and now I’ve not written anything for weeks and I have no idea what to do.
I always have little ruts of no motivation and I really think covid has put a big block for this with all the uncertainty around everything, I love this post these are great tips to help with this 🙂
