There are a few things that we genuinely do not say enough. Sometimes they can be to ourselves, and sometimes they can be to others. Most importantly though, we need to make sure that we do what makes us happy, put ourselves first, and just be unapologetically ourselves. So what are the kinds of things we should say aloud more?
01. You’re doing an amazing job
I definitely do not say this enough to myself, mainly because I have 0 belief in myself or what I can do. Even on your worst days, reminding yourself that you’re doing an amazing job is so important. It can be something so simple like getting out of bed and having a shower. Whatever it is, you’re doing it well, and don’t sell yourself short.
02. It is okay to struggle
Being honest when you’re struggling is hard, I’m not going to lie, but voicing how your feeling is so important. When you’re struggling sharing your thoughts, feelings and what is causing you to struggle can actually help you. But you have to find someone that you’re comfortable doing that with, whether it is your family, a friend or a counsellor. Whoever that is, as long as you’re comfortable with them, that is all that matters. Struggling is not a sign of weakness, and that is important to remember.
03. You are not alone
I need to remind myself of it more often. When my mental health is really bad, it can make me feel incredibly isolated, and it can be a dark space. It can make me feel like there is no way out, but even though we have been apart for so long due to the pandemic, those loved ones are right there. Whether it is by phone, text, email, those loved ones are right there.
04. Where there are problems, there are solutions
Problems can arise from even the most thought out plans. No matter what happens, you will be able to succeed. Sometimes we need to readjust our plans, have a way of coping with problems. Take a deep breath in, take a moment to adjust, and move forward. You can do this, and never let anyone tell you, that you can’t.
05. It’s okay to lose friends
I’ve got to be honest over the years I’ve lost a lot of friends and it has been painful. Friendships have come and gone, but those friendships happened for a reason. Sometimes the friendships that we have are meant to teach us something, we may want to learn something, or understand how to cope better with those bad days.
06. It’s okay to take life slowly
I feel like we are all in a massive rush to get through life’s milestones, and let’s be honest, we really don’t need to. Life is a marathon, not a sprint, and we all go at our own pace. We do not need to have achieved something by a certain age, and whether it is to have children, have bought a house, no matter what it is, there is no age you need to have achieved this by.
What should you say to yourself more often? Let me know in the comments!

When it comes to losing friends, you have to remember that as time moves on, committments change as people have families and relocate for jobs, it’s not personal to you, it’s just life
I need to say things like this to myself more, one in particular – “It’s okay to struggle” x

Needed this! Finding things a bit tough at the moment so knowing it’s okay not to be okay has helped xx
I recently read a book where there was a list of phrases that began with “I hope this email finds you…” and my favorite said, “I hope this email finds you well, but you know what, it Is okay if it doesn’t because we all have bad days.” and I so appreciated that sentiment. It reminds me of the second thing we should say aloud on your list here!
Thank you for sharing this Aimee. I’m loving these types of posts from you. I’m very much like yourself in the sense that I have/had quite little self belief. It’s definitely getting better, and I’m learning to trust my gut and take a chance on myself a little bit more now. I definitely need to tell myself I’m doing a great job more often though. I think I do when it comes to being a mum, but everything else in between I can be a bit iffy with. 100% with you on the take life at your own pace thing too! I think that’s so important, especially these days with the impact of social media & people portraying ‘the perfect life’.

First of all, I am loving your blog makeover, it’s very you!
Secondly, this post has really spoken to my soul. I am so here for this kind of blog post. I need to say out loud: “I’m fine” and “everything is ok” when things are a bit overwhelming

I really feel the ones about not being alone- especially during the pandemic, when loneliness was rife! Thank you for sharing these affirmations, another helpful and insightful post x
Thank you for this reminder. Its so easy to forget to show ourselves some kindness but we need to show ourselves more love. A great post x
Such a great post amie. We definitely need to start praising ourselves for how we’re doing in life right now. There’s definitely no time line for how or where we should be at any certain time in our lives. ❤️💛
Yessss……these are the things we should say more and more. These are also kindness practice. Thank you for sharing.
This was so timely as I really needed a reminder to practice this more consistently. Thank you for sharing and providing these useful prompts!
Oh Amie, these are all great reminders. I am trying my best to overcome the bad rut I ended up in, so this post was a great reminder that all will be okay soon. Thank you x
I totally agree with all of these. I think they’re all things that we know deep down but sometimes it takes hearing it aloud to believe or accept it. It’s great to get the reassurance from others in your circle too x

Thank you so much for this, I love it! It’s definitely really important to be gentle with ourselves as well as showing that others aren’t alone. Thanks for sharing x
I find speaking something aloud as powerful as writing it down, if not more, as voice brings the words to my ears and gives me one more reason to believe them.
Thanks for sharing some important self-reminders!
Totally agree with this! I feel like when I was younger I was in such a rush to grow up and now that I’m here, I really wish I lived in the moment and just took life one day at I time.
I truly need to say these more often, I never give myself credit for what I’ve achieved over the years but I’ve done so much and I should feel and say how proud I am of myself. Great post!
Thanks for sharing, these are very important tips to remember, that I’m doing a great job even though I don’t feel it most days 😉
Great post. I needed to read it today 🙂
I’ve ditched loads of friends over the years & I’m now happy with a small group of people around me.
I also need to do the rest of the things on the list. I love how honest this post is.
