Anxiety, It’s Such A Struggle

I’ve always been very open when it comes to my anxiety, on the good days and the bad, when I literally feel like my emotions are taking over and my mind is basically going wild, it’s a struggle. Anxiety is probably one of the hardest battles ever, mainly because it doesn’t matter what you do, you can’t turn that switch off to stop  you from overthinking and to stop that crushing feeling inside your chest.

I know I’m definitely not the only one out there who feels like this, and the worst part is, it’s one of those feelings that can genuinely make you feel so alone. Like you’re swimming against a wave and you can’t find your breath.

Anxiety genuinely brings out the worst in me, the smallest mistakes can literally feel like the world is caving in, it makes you irrational, makes the simplest tasks utterly unbearable and it takes over the way you’re feeling in a way you can’t even imagine unless you struggle with it.

Lately because there has been so much going on in my personal life, I’m struggling to sleep & my Fitbit is basically telling me my heart rate is through the roof so much of the time which isn’t really great for my own wellbeing.

The thing is, I also have so many amazing things going on in my life, and people are like why are you so anxious if you have all of these amazing things going on? The other one I’ve had is, you don’t look anxious? Like there is a specific way you’re supposed to look to be struggling with anxiety. I have coping mechanisms, and there are thigs I do when I’m feeling particularly anxious that my family know when I’m getting to a difficult place and that is my normal.

There is no specific one size fits all with anxiety.

Over the bank holiday weekend, I managed to fall off to sleep, but I woke up, and just stared at the ceiling and managed to freak myself out thinking about all the things that were happening, what could happen if this happened and what I had done wrong. I mean it literally sucked. I ended up speaking to Paul about it, getting all my emotions out, it helped, but the problem is, people can convince you that everything will be okay, but that doesn’t stop you from going round and round in circles and overthinking pretty much everything.

I’m working so hard on trying to not let my mind go into overdrive, to not let my thoughts run away with me, and the times when I’m not at work to at least chill out because I need to.

My brain feels like it is forever playing tricks on me, making me feel like I’m not good enough, making me feel like I genuinely can’t cope, but I’m going to get stronger. Anxiety will not break me.

This was kind of a brain dump post, but it was very therapeutic for me. If you’re someone that struggles with anxiety, you’re not alone. It will be okay & it will get better. Bad days happen, but the good days make everything feel like you can take on the world.

I can relate to this so much! I’ve been having a difficult time sleeping too. On a good night, I get 5 hours and even when I do exercise, drink enough water and eat well I still can’t go to sleep at night because my mind just keeps reminding me of random things instead of sleeping. It’s a horrible cycle! I know I’m not alone but it sure feels like it sometimes. ♥

I’m so glad it was therapeutic for you to be able to write this stuff down. Anxiety really sucks. My favourite is when you know your anxiety is playing up, you know what your intended coping mechanisms are, but because the anxiety is high, you can’t physically make yourself do them and get caught in a really bad loop – that’s my normal game. I hope things settle down for you soon – it sucks when it’s stopping you from sleeping as well.

I totally understand. My anxiety has peaked quite a bit this year due to various things.

I struggle with it and the medication they gave me made me so ill but now I feel so much better xx

  • This is beautiful! I too have anxiety and I find so much of what you have written to be relatable! I try to do so much research (meaning googling) about anxiety in hopes of finding ways to control it rather than it control me. It, like myself, is a work in progress

  • Sending supportive thoughts. These times suck, and I’m glad that at least getting all your thoughts out was helpful. I think it’s great to share things like this if you feel able, as it helps people to feel less alone/understand better, so I am glad you did 🙂

I can relate to you on so many levels about anxiety. It is something that makes us think about the things that aren’t true at all. I know this is a thing for me where some tells me things are OK and I can’t trust that answer @___@. Sending you lots of love, better days ahead ♥

  • Anxiety can be so tough, I suffer from it at times and I overthink so much. When my anxiety is really bad, it even affects my breathing so badly, it’s horrible 🙁 It’s small steps at a time though slowly moving forward. It is good to remember you aren’t alone, and you have supportive people around you!

  • Sorry you’ve been feeling this way lately! It’s awful that people don’t understand that things don’t have to be falling apart to be anxious about something. I loved your honesty here and really appreciate you opening up, very glad this was therapeutic for you too x

First off, I love your outfit! Second, I totally relate with you on all levels when it comes to dealing with anxiety. Some days it’s an easy ride and other days, it seems to go on forever. What I’ve noticed that has helped me significantly in the past is to get some fresh air and to work on my breathing. And when that doesn’t seem to work, I just cry it out. It’s the worst but know you are not alone. Sending you lots of love!

  • Boxnip says:

Anxiety is such a struggle and it’s not all about racing hearts & hyperventilating – like you say it comes in all forms. One of mine is that I talk, a lot, I’m aware I’m doing it and will myself to shut up but I just can’t do it! I hate being told ‘but you don’t look anxious’, that is just so annoying and just makes me more anxious. The thing I find with anxiety, no matter how you experience, the majority of it is an internal struggle that no one can see or feel – just you – and I feel that makes it all the harder to deal with it! 🙂

I’ve dealt with anxiety for the last 8 years, so I know where you’re coming from. It’s a struggle, especially when you’re dealing with it alone. Hope everything goes well on your end. May I suggest when you find time to read about this herb I am trying at the moment. It’s supposed to help with anxiety and so far I have noticed the calming effect it has on me. It’s called Ashwagandha Root.
