5 Things I Do When I Don’t Feel Myself

Lately it is pretty safe to say I haven’t been feeling like myself. If you have seen my social media, I’ve been pretty absent and when I have been online I’ve not been in the greatest place. But it is something that I’m definitely working on. We all have our off days, days where nothing goes right, everyone is a massive pain in the arse and it feels like you’re one moment away from bursting into tears.

But there are smalls things that I do that really helps me when I don’t feel like myself, even when I’m at work.

1. Go For A Walk

I’ve actually been doing this a lot, even if it is just to the shop and back just to get me out of the office. It genuinely does the world of good, and it stops me from overthinking pretty much everything in the known universe because I’m a pro at that. I mean I should probably have a degree in overthinking I’m that good.

2. If Something Isn’t Right, Talk.

I’m so lucky that my husband basically listens to me ramble about everything, if something hasn’t gone right during the day, if I’ve had some bad news, my husband will always know exactly what to say that will make me smile and cheer me up. Sometimes having another persons perspective on things can really help.

3. Take Time To Be With The People You Love

Seeing them and talking to the people you love really does ground me. It reminded me of what is important in life, and sometimes when things go wrong, you get bad news, but the people who love you are there no matter what. You can have a catch up, drink tea, remind each other of all the embarrassing things you used to do. There is literally nothing I love more to be honest.

4. Take Time Away From Social Media

I’ve actually taken a lot of time away from social media over the last few weeks, mainly because I just don’t have the time of mental capacity for it. I’ve been so tired and had so many other things to juggle and I’ve just not felt like myself. I have kind of isolated myself when it comes to social media because I just don’t have a lot to say at the moment. Nothing besides, I’m in need of caffeine or a nap anyway. Sometimes social media can definitely be too much for me, it literally overwhelms me to the point that I just need to be away.

5. Remember It’s Okay To Not Feel 100%

We all have bad days, we all have days where we feel like nope it’s not happening, we’re overtired, emotional and basically feel like life is just too much, but it doesn’t last forever, bad days will get better. We all stumble but we will not fall. Don’t feel like you have to pressure yourself into feeling okay, it just doesn’t happen like that. Give yourself time, give yourself some space and focus on the things that make you happy.

  • Social media can really drain you. I took time off Instagram maybe going back two years now and haven’t really gotten back into it. I feel guilt over not being supportive to friends and those who support me but at the same time you’ve got to put yourself first. It’s been liberating not being tied down to that medium anymore. I always put so much pressure on myself to produce amazing photos and get really down when I couldn’t. Moving away from that saw me rejoin Twitter and I much prefer that as a way of communication and expression anyway.

I agree with all of these, especially social media. It can be so intense at times and I definitely need intermittent breaks to stop it all getting too much. Sending you lots of love – I hope things improve soon. x

Great post – whenever I am feeling down, I like to call my parents or boyfriend, take a nice hot shower, or read a book. If that doesn’t work, I find that drinking water and eating some sugar also helps 🙂 Thanks for sharing!!

I agree with these! Whenever I’m not feeling myself my go-to things are either just watching something on netflix that might lift my mood, my favourite thing for this is either how I met your mother or stay here, or I will read a book as it is my favourite way to gain some escapism from whatever might be going on in my own life.

These are all things that I do when I’m not feeling 100%. I think I would also add doing other things that I enjoy, which at the moment has been all types of crafts. It can totally take your mind off things and gives you just that to concentrate on.

    Great list!

Ahh Aimie, I really needed to be reminded of this, you angel <3 It's exam time atm so I'm defs not feeling 100% all the time and you're right – walks, talking it out with loved ones – it definitely helps! Haven't quite mastered the social media one yet, although I should probably stop using it as a way to procrastinate studying haha! My other one is just tuning out for a wee while – turning on the telly and doing absolutely nothing <3

    I loved this post! x

Completely agree with you. There are days when everything appears blue. And it’s ok to have such days. Walking, colouring and grounding myself helps me a lot.

  • Boxnip says:

You’re so right on all of these. I’m not much of a talker myself but for those that are, I can imagine it’s quite cathartic. Social media can make people feel like crap, so stepping away from it can be so good for you. 🙂

Fantastic post! Sometimes it’s hard to accept that it’s okay that we’re not okay and that we need time out. I find that is the hardest thing to explain to other people that actually no, I don’t want to be around people and I just need a little time to myself. These are some great tips of when things are getting too much, especially getting out of the house and away from social media. I hope they help so you can get back to feeling like yourself quickly!

The fact that you are aware of not feeling yourself and that you need to stop and practice some self-care is fantastic. It seems obvious but not everyone can do that and admit that something is off. You are lucky to have a supportive attentive partner that really sees you and can be a shoulder to lean on. I take time away from social media at least once a week:) sometimes it gets too much and I need to center myself and be in my own bubble with my loved ones. hope you are feeling better.

  • totally agree with these! I like going for a long walk and avoid social media for a few days it helps me a lot when I do that.

I agree with all of these! When I don’t feel like myself, most of my problems are eased just by spending time with my loved ones. Knowing that people care make things a million times better.

Social media is a big one, I’ve stopped looking at my news feed a lot because of how people are, and normally going to facebook is just me checking out my groups because I am involved with fandom a lot, and then clicking out, and I think that helps for me 🙂

  • time away from social media is a big one for me.. i try to inject myself as much as possible into what is around me and what is good! time in the real world is super important!
