Finding a good vegan primer has never been easier, however, finding one that is right for your skin is always a tough one. I have found 9 of my favourite vegan and cruelty free primers that are on the market right now that would be perfect for your skin.
I struggle with dry – combination skin so depending on how my skin is feeling and the weather will always depend on the kind of primer I reach for. So are you ready to find out my 9 favourites?

E.L.F Puff Puff Primer
I am a massive fan of Hemp products and the puff puff primer is such a wonderful primer. This is the perfect primer for when my skin is feeling slightly drier than normal and I need something with more moisture in it, without weighing my skin down. This primer doesn’t have silicone in it, and leaves you with a satin like base for your make up. If you’re looking for a primer that feels like a moisturiser when you apply it, then this is definitely the primer for you. For £8 I don’t think you can go wrong with this primer.
ARK Skincare Skin Essential Skin Protector SPF 30 Primer*
I recently tried a whole skincare package from ARK and it was tailored to my skin concerns, and I have been reaching for this primer since around January and trying it in various different situations, from hot to cold, to workouts, I mean you name it, I’ve tried it and I honestly can’t fault this primer. The primer melts into the skin with ease, it has a really nice silky texture and keeps make up in place all day. This primer is on the pricier side at £36, however if you’re looking to splurge, then this would be an amazing primer to splurge on! A little really goes such a long way.
Superdrug B. Collection Pre-Make Up Primer
I’ve loved this primer forever, and it is one of my holy grails. It is a silicone based primer, however, the way it glides onto this skin is incredible. It leaves your pores looking smaller, your fine lines smoothed out, and it has the most amazing matte finish! It is really light weight on the skin, leaves your skin feeling super soft and gives the perfect base for your make up. This primer is £9.99 which I honestly don’t think is a bad price for a primer, especially when it creates the perfect canvas for your make up.
Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Blur Primer
Since I found a list of vegan products from Ole Henriksen on Ethical Elephant I’ve been purchasing more and more from their range. Since Laura Lee, Shaanxo & other influencers started raving about this primer, I honestly had to buy it didn’t I? I’m always really sceptical about primers that larger influencers enjoy, but as soon as I put it on my skin I realised why. It evened out my skin tone, blurred my pores and felt so lightweight with no sticky residue after application. It leaves your skin with the most amazing natural glow and I even put this on my skin on days where I don’t wear make up as it gives me this amazing glow from within look & I genuinely love that. This primer is £28, which is slightly on the more expensive side, but you don’t need a lot of the product to get the most amazing base!
Smashbox Photo Finish Reduce Redness Primer
I really love Smashbox, mainly because whenever I go into Boots and see their range it is always clearly labelled what is vegan. I’ve been using this primer for about 8 months and always rave about it. I get a lot of redness on my t-zone and on my cheeks so having a primer that can colour correct in one step is always a bonus for me. I love the way it keeps my make up in place for hours, evens my skin tone out, and if I do have any blemishes, it blurs them. Such an amazing primer, however, like the Ole Henriksen primer it is also £28, but similarly you do not need a lot of the product to get a wonderful blurring and even skin tone.

E.L.F Poreless Putty Primer
This one is a more drugstore putty primer works wonders on your face. This one is a much thicker consistency than most of the primers here, but doesn’t leave your face feeling greasy or heavy and applies perfectly to the skin. With it being a poreless putty primer, you may think that it would dry your skin out, however it leaves your skin feeling incredibly hydrated, soothed and doesn’t let your make up slip off your face. The primer itself is £8 and I genuinely feel like it is worth that and more. They do also have other various of this primer out now, I haven’t tried those ones yet.
E.L.F Poreless Face Primer
This primer is similar to the putty primer, however, I feel like this one tackles my blemishes a bit more and it is also a thinner consistency. This primer does have tea tree in it and does have such a smoothing effect on the skin. When I put this over my moisturser ready to prime, it instantly takes away so much of the shine that I may have, leaving me with an amazing matte base ready for my foundation. I love the way my skin looks with this primer, and for £7.50 I don’t think you can go wrong.
Milk Make Up Blur Stick
I get a very oily nose from my delightful combination skin and as soon as I apply this stick to my face, it takes away so much of the shine without leaving your skin feeling dry. I love the way that it blurs my large pores around my nose and on my cheeks and gives me the perfect base for my make up. It also doesn’t leave my make up looking cakey or feeling heavy which is what I was worried about. Also if you get very oily skin you can add this on top of your foundation to take away the shine. For £31 it is a splurge, however I would urge people to try the mini first as it will not be great on dry skin and try to avoid using it on my forehead or chin.

Milk Hydro Grip Primer
Another purchase that I made because of larger influencers like Laura Lee & Shaanxo, and honestly it is such a holy grail product that anyone would love. It is very sticky so 1 thing I would suggest is to make sure that you keep your hair back while doing your make up, only because I’ve had hair fly into the primer and it is a pain in the backside to get off. My make up with this primer always looks incredible, it doesn’t crack, it stays stuck to my face even if I’m hot and been sweating, it is like glue. This primer is again a more expensive one at £27, however a little goes such a long way and blends into the skin beautifully. I wouldn’t recommend this for dry skin, however, when my face is very oily, this is my go to primer.
These are my top picks for primers, they’re wonderful on the skin, leave your make up looking amazing!

I haven’t used primer in so many years because the one I used to use tested on animals and when I found that out, I stopped using it and never actually looked for a replacement so this was super useful to read x

I have combination skin. So vegan primer is good for me. Thank you for sharing.
I really want to try that Smashbox primer as I suffer with red cheeks too, it sounds like it would be great for my skin! x

If there is one thing I don’t mind splurging on, it’s skin products! I don’t wear makeup often but I love the sound of the Ark and Ole Henricksen!
Great recommendations! I would love to try the Milk Primer as well as their other products as I keep hearing a lot of hype about the brand 😊

Considering I have large pores, you’d think I’d be better at knowing more about primers but I don’t know if I’ve ever really invested in one. There are some great options here and I know what I’ll be using as my starting point now!

Thank you for sharing this list! I hate that products are still being tested on animals!
I am really ad and don’t use a primer. Although I use a cc cream as my base rather than a foundation, so I guess that is a form of primer? no probably not haha! Heard so many good things about Smashbox’s primer, so I will have to have a look at this the next time I’m in boots. It’s great that there are so many vegan products out there now, isn’t it?
Thanks for sharing!

I don’t use primer often, but I really like the sound of the Poreless Putty Primer when I need my makeup to sit for a long time. And I love that it’s so affordable too 🙂

I’m always on the lookout for cruelty free makeup and skin care products so this post is getting bookmarked! I can’t wait to give some of these a try.
I don’t use primer that often so I don’t tend to mix them up that often but the first Elf one you mentioned sounds like something I’d like, and it’s an amazing price point! I’ve been tempted to get the Milk Hydo Grip so many times after hearing so much hype but I had no idea it wasn’t good for dry skin so I’ll be staying away from that one x

These are some great recommendations! I would love to try the Ole Henriksen skincare range at some point; although haven’t so far because of the price point. It seems worth it though – you pay for results and for quality products.

This was fab, been looking for a Vegan primer, so this was super helpful x
I’ve been trying to convert my make-up collection to all began and cruelty free recently so this is so helpful. I love a primer and can’t do my makeup without it! Definitely going to try some of these out. Thanks for sharing x
