Am I Just Not Cut Out For Blogging Anymore?

So here’s the thing, I’m currently stuck in a rut. My blog has been my baby for almost 4 years now, I’ve put so much love, hard work and time into it, and now I feel like I’m lost at sea. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done creating my blog, but I feel like I don’t know where to go any more and I’m sat there thinking, am I really supposed to be blogging any more?

Do you remember when blogging used to be all about the talk, we all used to enjoy just writing the posts, sharing our thoughts, the blog chats and enjoying what others have to offer.

After everything with Pipdig, I feel like I’ve lost my passion for it all. Not just over a theme but the stress the entire thing has caused, from working on my theme till gone midnight to get to something I want it to be, it’s just so bloody hard.

Behind the scenes of a blog there are so many different things that go into it, from the blog photos, to writing the blog post, SEO, I mean you name it, it isn’t as straight forward as people might seem, we put a lot of time and effort into what we do.

We do all of that hard work because we genuinely love what we do, we love to share our thoughts and feelings, things we love and the things that didn’t work for us, and to be able to speak to people who have similar interests.

This is something I never thought I’d say, but do I really want to blog anymore?

The answer is of course I do, it’s my outlet and something I genuinely enjoy, but the amount of stress it is causing, is it worth it? If this had happened last year I probably would have said yes, but trying to juggle a full time job with my blog, it’s safe to say I’m close to burnout. I feel like I’m trying to juggle everything and I’m dropping the ball in so many area’s of my life.

I think if I’m completely honest, I just need to get back to my roots with my blog, I need to remember the reason why I started, start writing about the things I used to love talking about and maybe give myself a little break.

I think within the blogging world, where there are literally so many talented and incredible content creators, I for one know that I put a lot of pressure on myself to do better, be better and be constantly improving. It’s not always possible though. Blogging is and always will be a massive part of my life, but it’s not my main priority anymore.

So what is the future of The Curvaceous Vegan?

Well of course I’m still going to be writing, I’m still going to be around, but I’m going to be focusing on what I want to write about, lifestyle, food, beauty and everything in between. I want to be excited to write a blog post, I don’t want to feel stressed out about it. At the end of the day it is supposed to be fun!

I understand what you mean, when I first started my site in ’07 it was under a different domain and it was a fansite, then in ’11 it was just a personal site where I blogged some and made a lot of resources for photoshop and graphic artist, and then I took almost a two year hiatus and came back last year and I still have and create photoshop resources for artist, I’ve added my art, fanfiction, and so much more while starting blogging more serious and actually on a schedule.

As someone who loves coding and designed her own theme, when I heard about the whole Pipdig on Twitter than through someone I’ve followed for years Jem, I was in shock that they was getting away with that.

I think a lot of people don’t realize what goes on behind the scenes as well and that goes for a lot of things.

I think that what you said sounds good like, we do this because we love it and we shouldn’t have to push ourselves too much in a direction that we don’t want.

I think for me I can’t pretend to understand what you and others who used those themes have gone through because of them. Just know that you have support from me.

I think the Pipdig scandal has hit us all, it was so stressful for us all to find new themes, it did make me think once or twice about carrying on, but you’re amazing at blogging Amie, your content is always on point and you’re such a lovely girl! xx

Completely know how you feel. I admit that I’ve had days where I have felt discouraged and a little overwhelmed. However, there’s always been something inside of me that hasn’t let me quit blogging. I know it’s inside of you, too. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be writing this. You seem like a great blogger, keep writing, but most importantly keep doing what you love to do most.

    Much love always,

I feel the same as you to be honest. I find it really difficult to think about topics to write about. Any ideas? 😊

  • Jenny says:

I can definitely relate to these feelings, which I sort of talked about in my latest post too. I still adore blogging but its so different to when I first started!

I can definitely relate to this and I’ve been feeling it a lot more lately. The whole Pipdig thing didn’t help either. I changed to another theme, which was ok but then I’ve spent the last 48 hours except for about 6hrs sleep, installing and customising another new theme. Part way through I did ask myself if it was all worth it. I really enjoy writing but it does stress me out as I feel the need to post way more regularly – I was doing ok with that, then I’ve had a flare up and have not wanted to do anything the last couple of weeks. Like you though, I think remembering why we started blogging to begin with is a good place to start when feeling like this. We need to bring the joy back to blogging. 🙂

I often feel like I get lost with my blog and balancing it, so it’s lovely to hear that I’m not the only one. You will find a motivation, sometimes I take a break. I hope it works out for you x

I totally get what you mean, blogging is hard at the moment. There’s no real chats going on anymore, too many are trying to make money out of others and it’s just taking a really horrible turn xx

  • Sarah says:

Sometimes I feel down about my blog and it’s future but I try not to let it get to me xx

Blogging is definitely changing, I’m becoming a little disheartened but I’ll still carry on x

This entire blog post is me 100%! The things we now do to create just a blog post is unreal in comparison to what it used to be. I used to literally take my photos, edit them, type my post and publish. That was it!

Blogging isn’t something i’ll give up easily but I do think it’s become so oversaturated that you can’t stand out in your own right in the way we used to be!

I know exactly what you mean. It can be so hard, especially when there are unforseen circumstances like p-who-must-not-be-named etc which was difficult and expensive and stressful for so many people. I absolutely love your blog. I had similar feelings a few months ago and stripped everything back and just started writing about what I wanted to write about, and tried to remember why I started blogging in the first place xxx

  • Aimsy says:

Blogging definitely has its ups and downs! It’s good to take it back to basics and remember why you first started, that can be more motivating to carry on.
I became really disheartened with the DA score changes, but onwards and upwards! Blogging is a great outlet!

Looking forward to seeing your future posts, whatever you write about. Love your writing style!

I haven’t blogged in a few months now and still having a WordPress blog I didn’t see much about the Pipdig scandal but I saw how it affected so many bloggers so I can understand the stress you’re feeling right now! I’m really struggling on whether I should carry on with my blog because like you I have a full time job and I now own my own home which occupies a lot of my time but as long as you still enjoy it then you should definitely try to carry on because your blog is great!

  • I’ve had moments like this before, I can be such an overthinking worrier though (and have actually quit blogging entirely a few times previously!) I love the look of your new layout though, especially the font in the post titles.

  • Madi Dearson says:

I think we all have been there at some point. I also don’t think blogging will ever be completely stress-free for me, but I think it’s because we love it we want to do it well. I think you are totally on point with blogging about what you truly love, that is the best way to do it, and the best for us mentally. Cut out the noise, center on what we want, it’s not easy but it is necessary for our well being. I can’t wait to read more from you.

  • Carrie says:

I haven’t been blogging for long and basically only started as an outlet for my feelings, so I was too fussed about things with it. But now I’m getting into the swing of things I get what you mean.

It almost feels like another job or chore I have to do when that wasn’t the point in the first!

I’ve only very recently started taking blogging a little more seriously and have started exploring and following other blogs and I’m glad I found yours. Try not to get too discouraged with it x

  • Please know you’re not alone in feeling like this darling, I found myself stuck in a rut with my blog last year and took some time away from it to rethink everything – it really worked, I missed blogging so much and came back with a whole new way of blogging and had so many ideas and things to write about. I’m sending you all of the love in the world sweetheart. 🌸💜

It’s important to make sure you blog for the right reasons and a good refresh sometimes reignites the passion we lost x

  • Emma Boatman says:

I dropped down from 2 blogs per week to 1 – running 3 businesses and a blog was just getting unsustainable. I know I don’t get as many ‘hits’ on the blog any more but I just needed to take the pressure of to be able to start enjoying it again.

  • if you didn’t blog i literally would have no hope in this world! I defo have been feeling the same though, with so much focus slipping from actual written content and onto instant visual channels, I have dropped my content from three times a week to once or twice and it is a killer. i am very creative content wise but i have to make sure i am sticking with the trends and posting on insta more. but that really isn’t blogging for me! i hope the curve comes back to written content and honest reviews rather than over edited photos that last seconds on a feed!

I’m so glad you’re sticking around because you’re one of my favourite blogs to read!

  • Lindsey says:

Oh sweetie, it sucks that you are feeling in a rut, but I for one (probably selfishly) am glad that you will still keep going. Remembering the reason why you started is always so important: none of us started blogs because we wanted millions of followers, but because we had something (or several things) that we were passionate about and wanted to share our thoughts. Maybe a small break might help reignite that passion for you? I’ve had times where I’ve breaked (broken?) completely and times when I just haven’t posted but given myself the chance to get ahead with content and both times I’ve been desperate to get back to it, which reminded me that this is something I still want. I really hope you find a way that works for you and you don’t lose your love for it, but it’s important to put what you need first.

  • Kim says:

I’ve felt like this too so I empathise with you. I found that taking a break from blogging helped me out of my rut and to find my love for it again.

  • Sophie says:

I think it’s so easy to get caught up in all the “other” stuff to do with blogging & the expectation that you a) have hours to spend on your blog and b) that you can and want to spend those hours to grow your blog! Obviously you want more people to read it but I find that whenever I go too far the other way into planning and creating schedules and stuff I get way too in my head about it all. Glad to hear you’re not leaving and look forward to seeing what you do going forwards 😊

  • You’re so not alone in these feelings. I think loads has changed in the last few years and so much of it steals the joy out of something that used to be fun. GDPR started it for me, then disclosures (I see why – just not the drama), ASA rules and all… lots of bickering about folk tweeting clearly sponsored posts but not adding disclaimers (using them in post only, if even then) or being on press trips and not saying so.. and it just goes on and on. Others keep saying you need to work on DA, SEO, and do courses.. Be professional, do XYZ… and I wanted to. But it made something that used to be fun, no longer fun.Do what you need to do, find the happy. And then write 🙂

I think part of it, is that we’re in the middle of a pandemic. Everything seems so much more confusing these days than they used to be. As I get older I seriously start to wonder what I am doing with my life, do I really want to be a professional Blogger? Of course the answer is yes,but the Universe will always make sure you really want what you claim by making you prove it over and over. I hope you’ll keep writing I enjoyed this read.
