Comparing Our Lives To Others And Rushing Ourselves

Comparing Our Lives To Others And Rushing OurselvesRemember when we look back at our teens years and said we should not be in such a rush for things to happen and realise that everything worth having takes time? Well lately I’ve been needing to remind myself of this daily lately, I want to achieve so much in my life, I want to have so much happen and to just be the best person I can be, but I am the kind of person that would end up putting myself down because I haven’t managed to do certain things yet. In honesty I shouldn’t put myself down.

This year I have vowed to myself to hustle my backside to get to exactly where I want to be, to take opportunities that I would love to do, say yes to the things that I want to do and to cut people off that don’t make me happy or don’t bring happiness to my life. Not only that it will be the year where I stop comparing my life to others because it brings nothing but upset.

Everything happens at different times for everyone, we all get our big breaks at certain times, make those big purchases at different times, but that doesn’t mean we are doing anything wrong, it’s just everyone has different situations.

There is no rush – honestly! I kind of touched upon this when I said when I spoke about when we will have children (you can read about that here) but if you’re looking online, you seeing all these amazing people absolutely slaying life, buying houses, getting promotions, amazing collaborations with brands if you’re a blogger remember everything happens in good time.

There is no rush to get married (I am already married) or have children, to pass your driving test, to get on the property ladder or do anything like that. You should live life at your own pace, do you own thing, basically whatever you want to do. There is not right or wrong way to live your life, this is your life, and your decision.

I’m the kind of person that loves to support the people I care about, I’ll be their biggest cheerleader and supporting them as much as physically possible but sometimes you can’t help but want to get to a similar point. You want all the people around you to succeed but you also want that kind of thing to happen for you too!

Do we really need to rush ourselves? I mean it isn’t necessary! Everything happens when the timing is right and through hard work.

I know I am an incredible person, I am going to do incredible things, I will achieve everything I want as long as I work hard, it will all pay off!

Are you struggling with this right now? Let me know in the comments!

  • Every few months, I have to stop and remind myself of all of this. Especially with social media, it can be easy to blur the lines between being inspired and comparing yourself to someone else. Thanks for the reminder!

You’re welcome angel, I honestly have to give myself a wake up call sometimes, there is no need to compare ourselves and just live our lives for us! xxxx

I am terrible at this. Social media fuels it terribly for me but I’m the same in day to day situations too. I’m glad I’m not the only one who suffers!

You’re honestly not the only one, do things at your pace, do what you want and live your life to the max! Comparison can be bloody awful! xxxx

  • Yasmina says:

I agree with everything said in this but the media fuels the need to rush ourselves at achieving certain goals! 🙂 xx

  • Aimee says:

Comparison is the thief of joy. But I think we are all guilty of comparing ourselves to others. And trying to rush ourselves in order to achieve those things we see others achieving that we want. It’s hard to switch it off, but it’s important to remember that this is your life and you’ve got to live it the way you want to.

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I totally agree! It’s important to live your life, do what makes you happy and move forward with your own life! xxxx

This post really spoke to me as I’ve been thinking a lot about this recently. For the past couple of years, I’ve been in such a rush to be successful in what I enjoy. I’ve spent so much time thinking about what I need to do; planning, organising, reading up on everything, and so on and so forth that I’ve forgotten to enjoy and actually take action in order to get there….all whilst wondering why I’m not already there yet. It’s a weird cycle that I know doesn’t make sense, haha!

I turned 27 at the beginning of February and this has me panicking even more due to the fact that I’m “almost 30” and don’t feel I’ve achieved much in my life – my friends are getting married, having kids, moving out and winning at life and I just feel meh. I do know that things take time and whatever will happen will happen, but it is hard. Like you, I’m everyone’s biggest cheerleader and I want everyone to win at everything they do at life; I just need to learn to take that inner cheerleader and use it on myself. Thank you so much for this post, it was a great read 🙂

I’m so glad you liked this post angel! I know what you mean, it can be hard to unlock that inner cheerleader, but it’s important to remember that there is no time limit on success! You’re doing such an amazing job already! xxx

  • This is something that resonates with me a LOT! I’m nowhere near where I thought I’d be at 25. Nowhere NEAR. Because things happened along the way to change that. But I’m always comparing myself and my life to other people, especially on social media and it’s never healthy. Life isn’t a race!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Exactly! Your life is your life, everything will happen in the time, you work so hard Jenny, you can achieve anything you want in life! xxxxxx

  • Saira says:

I do have to sometimes step back and remind myself of this – especially when you see so many people at a similar age to you doing so much. I loved this post – and it is definitely one I will keep in mind whenever I feel like I’m falling behind !

You are so right babe! I think it’s a struggle in all aspects; blogging, work (I’ve been working yearsssss so why am I not in management yet?!), and personal life, I’m currently seeing everyone I know is getting engaged and almost being a bit jealous – and then I realise that it’s just not the right time for me yet, it isn’t a race!

  • Lindsey says:

You are definitely fabulous! I needed this post today. I’m at a point where I can’t afford to move out, spoke to my manager just this week about career development and in terms of my blog, I’m really small. I’m always feeling, especially lately, that I’m just not doing enough of anything to be getting me where I want to. But you know what? You’re completely right! It doesn’t matter that those things have happened yet. I’m going to work hard towards what I want, and never mind what anyone else doing. Thank you so much for this!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Thank you so much my darling! I know what you mean, I really feel the same, like I need to spread my wings more, but it’s the beginning of the year, we have a whole wear to learn to fly to use that analogy! xxx

I relate to this so much! My life has always been a pace behind everyone else’s, but it’s still hard feeling so judged for it
