Get To Know Island Beauty Junkie

So it’s one of my favourite parts of the month, where I get to share some new incredible bloggers, it is one of my favourite things to be able to do, especially because there are so many amazing bloggers that are killing it right now! Natalie’s blog Island Beauty Junkie is one to not be missed, it is one of my new personal favourites, especially with her photography and her reviews, they’re so good! Are you ready to find out more?

  1. What was the reason you started your blog?

There were a couple of factors that inspired me to start my blog. Firstly, I am an utter makeup and beauty junkie. I buy so many product, my cupboards are full. My friends are always asking what I am trying and asking for recommendations. So in the end I started to consider writing a blog to share my findings and opinions.

Secondly, I have followed other blogs and You Tubers for years but it took me a while to build up the confidence to start my blog. However, all the You Tubers I watched were often quite young or very gorgeous with perfect skin. Over the years my skin has changed with age and I often try things I have read about or watched and they just don’t suit my skin or age. I end up looking nothing like the tutorial I followed! It made me realise there was a bit of a gap in the blogging world which I could fit into.

Finally, I am a workaholic. I am a Graphic Design Lecturer in an art college and it is a very intense job. It absorbs so much of my time and my general thinking space that I had gotten to the point where I needed an escape. I would work all day, come home, feed my children, play with them, bath them get them off to bed and then be back working on my lecturing work. It was just too much. Blogging has really helped me emotionally. I am happier and look forward to coming home and working on my posts or checking out Twitter to see what all my new social media friends are up to.

  1. What have you learned through your blogging journey?

I have only been writing my blog for 6 months and I already have learnt so much! An important factor is to stay on top of social media sites. I found the more I interacted with Twitter the faster my followers grew. So I now check Twitter and Instagram many times a day, commenting on other tweets and joining chats. This has been really enjoyable too. I love that I have made a whole range of friends/contacts who are also passionate about the same things as me.

Photography is really important too. Especially the feature image as this is what catches people’s attention and encourages them to open and read your blog. I try to use all my own photography and have recently collected together props to start dressing up my images. I find my SLR camera on a tripod works better to than just using my iPhone, although my phone is handy to take some quick photos when I need to.

  1. How would you best describe your blog?

My blog is a lifestyle/beauty blog covering things such as beauty products, books, music, art, baking to name a few. I review and document things I find interesting and write in a natural manner being honest and realistic.

  1. Name something quirky that you can do, that we might not know about you.

I am very proud to say I can touch my nose with my tongue! Something my own children are very jealous of!!! Haha, let me know if you need something more serious.

  1. What was one of your favourite posts to write or create? What about it did you enjoy the most?

My favourite post/s has been a series I did just after Christmas. I questioned lots of my friends and family about what makeup and beauty products they used regularly and would recommend. I got such a positive result I ended up splitting it into sections and writing several posts such as Foundations, Primers and Concealers. My blog viewings for these posts were great plus it was really interesting to see which products they were using too.

  1. Why should someone come and visit your blog?

This is a really hard question! They should visit my blog for an honest realistic review covering interesting lifestyle things such as beauty products, books, music, art, baking to name a few. I look at products from a real angle based on the body, skin and lifestyle of a person in her late 30s. I am a full time working mum of 2, who is not trained in the industry. Everything I do is because I enjoy it not because I have to. I am passionate about my blog. I want my posts to help and inspire the readers and allow them to feel beautiful and valued no matter what age.
