Switching off from the world is honestly one of the most difficult things to do, I mean let’s be honest we spend most of our lives on our computers and our mobile phones. Whether it is our social media, or selfies, or texting or making phone calls we live our lives through our phones, so it is important to take time away and to well and truly switch off from the world. So how do we honestly turn of from the world and take time out?
1 Back away from those devices!
Let’s be honest if the devices are there you’re more likely to go on them. When you’re bored your first instinct is to go to your phone, when you wake up in the morning, in bed we casually scroll through social media. Turn them off, put them in the draw and chill out without your devices.
2 Make time for yourself
It’s okay to take time for yourself, let’s be honest when we’re on our phones that genuinely isn’t time for ourselves, that is time when we’re thinking about things like our like counter, our follow counter, going through Facebook & Twitter, that isn’t time when we get to chill our away from those social media outlets!
3. Go out!
There is so much to experience outside, there is so much nature, there are museums, you can go spend time with your family, volunteer, anything that will give you new experiences.
4. Do activities indoors
Now if you’re not interested in going out, maybe the weather is absolutely vile and going out honestly isn’t an option, then that is okay because there are so many different things you can do, for example immerse yourself in a good book, paint, draw, try something new! To be honest there is nothing better than immersing yourself in a good book!
5. Spend time with loved ones
Time with the people you love is literally the best thing since sliced bread, I love spending time with Paul because even though we are so different we have so many similar interests! We chill with games, movies, long walks, workouts, anything that means we are together!
6. Appreciate the life around you
When we’re too busy taking photos of our dinner and sharing it on Instagram we honestly forget to appreciate things in our lives, like having a conversation at the dinner table, laughing with your family while eating, it’s the small things!
7. See your friends
Friends are the people who have been there through so much and there is nothing better than having a massive catch up over a glass of wine, laughs, giggles, and it’s the best feeling ever.
8. Learn something brand new
I love learning something new, whether it is brushing up on my languages, learning more about photo editing, SEO & more, there is so much to learn out there and being away from the computer can really help you to embrace something new and give it a massive go!
9. Enjoy a nap in the middle of the day
At the weekend when my mind is going crazy with blog post ideas and numbers, taking a nap can really help, it helps me to switch off from life completely and wake up refreshed!
10. Create a digital free space
This actually really helps me because in my room I have a futon where I can sit, relax, away from the computer and read my book, it’s relaxed with loads of cushions and cuddly toys, it’s the ultimate place to relax.
11. When you’re out leave that phone in your handbag
Now I’m not saying turn it off and ignore it, because there could be an emergency, however when you’re out, appreciate what you’re doing you don’t need to check your phone, social media might be moving forward but it isn’t going anywhere.
12. Don’t worry about capturing a memory in a photo
With a camera right at our fingertips we are always wanting to capture that moment, I know I do, but recently I have been learning to take in the moment, because that memory will last so much longer in my mind.
