Instagram, an old foe, a foe that I am yet to fully understand. I swear we go through phases where at one point I love it, I have content coming out my ears, and then others where I’m like, I can’t deal with it anymore, what is wrong with me. I mean don’t get me wrong, it’s still such a good platform, even though I would love for it to give us back a chronological feed but this isn’t that kind of post where I’m going to complain about all the things they’re basically doing wrong.
If you’ve seen my Instagram, lately I’ve been posting outside of my ‘theme’ – I use that term loosely because I don’t really have a theme it’s more of a colour palette, and lately I’ve been breaking it.
It’s more about posting things that I am enjoying and just sharing images that are more about me. Unfortunately it is giving me somewhat of a headache.
I’m as stubborn as they come, if I do something you will be damn sure that I will stick to it. However when it comes to my Instagram when something is out of place makes me feel incredibly uncomfortable. It doesn’t matter how good the photograph is, I feel ridiculously uncomfortable.
My Instagram always had a theme, more purples and greys, you know a lot beauty, a bit of food and lifestyle, those kinds of things. I’m not a niche blogger and I know I never will be, I love talking about loads of different things way too much. But my Instagram theme was something I was proud of.
On Sunday however, I all of sudden got very conscious of it. The fact that I had uploaded something that was completely out of my comfort zone, something that probably wasn’t supposed to be there.
I literally felt like I was in the blackhole that was my Instagram content. If you don’t know the photo I’m on about it’s the London Eye photo. I felt like it stood out like a sore thumb.
I sat there and edited it in about 100 different ways trying to get it to work, alas it didn’t happen.
I’d like to point out that I’d already uploaded it by this point too. I was beyond stressed about it.
Then my husband made a valid point to me.
Does it really matter if it sticks out?
At first I’m like – Mate you’re not a blogger you honestly have no idea. Then I realised, he is actually right.
Look I love photography and a theme shouldn’t make me absolutely bloody miserable. I had worked so hard on falling back in love with Instagram that my own insecurities and comparing myself had made me feel like my content was inadequate.
My Instagram content should reflect me, give people an understanding of who I am through some snaps. Yes they might be flat lays and yes they might be photos of me – I am trying to put my face on there a bit more, but you know I’m trying.
Instagram themes do work for some people – I know Chloe – Lady Writes has one of the most amazing themes known to man. She is ridiculously talented (yes I’m slightly envious of how talented she is, she is my friend so please do go and follow her and give her some love) but for me, I literally can’t. I feel like I’m trying to stick myself in a box that is just too damn small for me and it is making me miserable.
I love Instagram, I swear though my own mind is my worst enemy.
What do you think of Instagram? Are you like me? Let me know!

I had considered trying to give mine a theme because it seemed like the thing to do, but I didn’t for this very reason – I knew I’d become caught up in it and it would end with me deleting my account, probably! I think you should give yourself some credit, though – you tried it, and you did well with it, but you’ve simply realised it doesn’t work for you, and that’s okay! 🙂 x
Thank you my lovely, I think when it comes to my theme as it will be now, it’s just going to be a filter theme. That is all now. Just doing what makes me happy! xxxx
SInce I have just joined Instagram, my theme is very much to have no theme at all!
That is amazing my lovely, you continue to do your thing angel, you’re doing an amazing job angel! xxxx
I’m trying to just be consistent with Instagram. I had a theme a few months ago but had the same issue as you! My feed is mostly flat lays now but I’m loving creating the content so I’m ok with it. Just wish the growth would happen now!
That is what I’m doing now, I enjoy my feed being a mixture & I love making flat lays but lately they just don’t seem to be working for me so I’m trying to switch it up! xxx
I try to stick to a theme but I always want to post photos that don’t fit – but that’s ok x

I love your Instagram! It’s gorgeous! xxxx
I lov that people can do whatever they like with their Instagram and there’s no right or wrong x
Your Instagram is honestly the best. You are my inspiration to keep going with the whole platform! xxxx
I think Instagrams can look good with or without a theme but I love seeing more real life!
Me too my darling, that is why I’m trying to mix it up a bit! xxxxx
Life is unfiltered and doesn’t run according to a theme so why should Instagram? I’m in a bit of a rut myself and I don’t like my grid and I can’t think of where I want to take it.

You will definitely get there my darling, I had such a rough week with my grid the other week, now I’m just trying to upload what I love. Your Instagram is one of my favourites! You’re one of the best! Xxxxx
Instagram is so difficult for businesses and bloggers, at least for me it is! I feel you have to be so precise to make it what most people would call “successful.” I’ve just learned to make it about me and what I enjoy. It takes the stress off.
That is what I’m doing now, and it honestly makes it easier for me to be honest! xxxx
I personally would never make my Instagram into a theme in the same way I would never refrain my blog to a niche (besides cruelty free). I’d hate the limitedness as I love posting what I want and when I want.

I know what you mean, I feel like if I put myself in a box I’ll end up feeling restricted to what I can do, now I’m just trying to enjoy creating! xxxx
I keep trying to give mine a theme but its not actually going anywhere, I kinda like how mine looks! and i adore yours
Just do what makes you comfortable my darling, and do your thing! Thank you so much my lovely! xxxx
I have to admit I haven’t really ever been able to produce a theme for my Insta. I edit my photos the same but I would be so less creative with a theme
I felt the same, but I know that a lot of people are ridiculously creative with a theme! xxxx
This is me! The first time I tried out bookstagram, I didn’t stick to a theme but I saw the appeal of it and tried. After a while I HATED it. I got bored and wanted to do new things. Eventually I also didn’t have the time so I deleted that account.
This time round I decided when I made the account itself to do what I want. And that’s to do different things and also have a theme. I decided on short themes. My themes will be at least one screen long and depending on how much I like it, I’ll continue the theme. Right now I’m on my 10th theme!
Always do what makes you happy my lovely, Instagram is just another social media platform and you really should do what is best for you my lovely I think if you want a theme it can be a filter, it can be anything you want it to be xxxx
I feel as though I could have written this! Arghhh I’m having the dilemma of breaking my instagram theme too – it’s a pain in the butt. I’ve committed now and have been doing it for a while but really want to mix things up, I’m just not sure how yet. Hmm. Lots of food for thought.
Sincerely, Sarah xx

It’s so hard when it comes to themes, but at the end of the day, enjoy your feed, your feed is incredible! xxxx
My instagram literally has no theme! I post what I like and hope for the best x think its more fun that way tbh xx
That is the best thing ever my darling! Enjoy it! xxxx
I’m not stressed about Instagram really, they should be caring about your blog content than what your theme looks like. As long as you like it, that’s all that matters.

Thank you so much my lovely, I guess I’m just trying to make things cohesive through my blog and my Instagram! xxxxx
