5 Ways I’m Learning To De-stress

I’m a bit of a stress head by nature if I’m honest. I definitely try my best where possible to try and stay calm to not let the stress get to me, but sometimes it can be hard. Letting things get to me can be really tough, mainly because I’m the kind of person that takes things to heart and looks into things a little bit too much. Stress can sometimes make you feel like you are falling into an ocean and the waves just keep coming and you can’t keep your head above water.

There are a few ways that I have learned to deal with the stress because let’s be honest, the only way we are going to be able to cope is if we have mechanisms in place to make us feel better.

Getting Back Into Reading

I love my reading, I personally find it the best way for me to destress and get my mind away from everything. I’ve found so many amazing books lately. If you saw my Instagram post (which is here if you fancy checking it out) you will see that I’m currently reading I know who you are. If you are the kind of person that loves a good thriller, I would 100% recommend.

Turning Off Social Media

I took a little bit of a break during the week because honestly I was struggling to cope, I couldn’t keep up with everything, I felt like social media was an absolute chore for me and I hate feeling like that. Especially when it comes to my blog. Sometimes getting away from it all can really put everything into perspective and focus your energy on where you feel it should be used. I am still trying to find a happy balance and the moment, but I’m making a comeback!

Breathing Exercises

I actually have a Fitbit and have done for about 5 years and it has an app on it that says relax with various different breathing exercises. It monitors your breathing and I’ve got to be honest it is definitely something that keeps me calm. I’ve had my new Fitbit for a few months now and I genuinely love it. My old Fitbit did have the option, but I never actually used it (oops!)

Talking About It

If you have seen my social media, I’ve got to be honest I’ve been a bit of a negative nelly. I’m normally the first person the be up chatting, happy and fun, but lately I feel like I’ve had that happiness sucked out of me. I’ve had various issues going on at the moment, and talking about it makes the world of difference. Even just having a little vent on social media, there are times when everyone needs it, not to attention seek or for people to ask if you are okay, but just to get all your feelings out there because it makes the world of difference.

Getting Enough Sleep

I’ve been taking more of an interest in my sleeping patterns lately, mainly because I know I’m not getting enough sleep. I’m constantly tired, I’m ratty and irritable and it makes work which is super busy an absolute struggle (luckily I love my job so that makes it easier.) In the evening I’ve been drinking my chamomile tea, sorting out a proper routine that helps me to relax and get enough sleep. My body needs it.

Those are the tips that are helping me to destress right now! Let me know your tips in the comments!

Taking a break is so important when you need destress, whether that’s from social media, blogging or booking a holiday and getting away from day to day life for a bit. I always feel a little better after a break and definitely when I’ve gotten a decent amount of sleep. I hope things get better for you.

It’s great that you are trying actively to manage your stress. The worst thing to do is to give up and let your stress consume you! Like you said, even things like sleeping more can help – and I totally agree.
Best of luck in your quest to relaxation and calm.

Totally with you on the reading. It’s always been the way that I’ve calmed myself down and de-stressed, but I got myself into a little bit of a reading slump for a while. But today I’ve decided to use my Sunday as primarily a reading day, and this post definitely helped to inspire that! Great ideas 🙂

I like to switch myself off from social media when I feel stressed, I think it makes me more stressed if I start scrolling through my channels when I’m already stressed! It’s always goof to take yourself away from things when life is getting stressful and a bit too much! x

Such great tips! I am totally a stress head too, so I definitely need to use some of these tips. I think blogging can be stressful, so turning off from social media can be hard; but so worth it!
I’ve forgotten how much reading before bed really helps me wind down too; so will definitely have to get back doing that!

Thank you for sharing your tips!

It can be SO hard to switch off. I think taking a break from social media is so important, it’s crazy that we’re expected to be switched on 24/7. Reading is so good for switching the mind off – especially in the evening!

Some great tips here 🙂 I find my tress levels increase when I take on too much at once. Sometimes I just need to take a step back, take a breath, and re-assess where my priorities should be.

I love chamomile tea I basically drink it almost every night during my late-night class. I’m also trying to go back to reading outside of my academic course.
