I have made it clear that I am pretty crap at self care. Self care is not my greatest area at the best of times, I tend to spread myself too thin and devoted too much time to people who genuinely shouldn’t matter in my life.
Self care especially during the colder months is so important, and it is even more important than normal to take care of yourself and it is more than just pampering yourself. So here are my tips on looking after yourself in the colder months.
1. Taking Time Away
I’ve not been as active on social media lately, and that is on purpose to be honest. I’ve been doing this because I just need a bit of a break, I need some time to refresh and rejuvenate and it worked wonders. I’ve been more interested in spending time with my family, making memories and just being away from social media. I’ve obviously been around a little bit, but not as much as I used to be and I’m kind of living for it.
2. Learning To Say No
I’m still not great about this to be honest, but I’ve been working on it so much as of lately, mainly because I’m so bloody tired. There are literally only so many hours in the day and sometimes we all just need some time to chill out, switch out mind off and zen. Saying no doesn’t mean that you don’t care, or you don’t want to help someone, but it is literally about self preservation, you can’t help others if you can’t help yourself.
3. Yoga
Yoga is one of my favourite things in the world, I have issues with my back and it can really help me. Doing 30 minutes of yoga even in the morning really does calm me, and it sets me up for the day. I find that if I do my yoga in the morning I feel more focused and grounded. Even BB-8 has joined in lately, although she does like to jump on my back which is slightly irritating but you’ve got to love her.
4. Getting Cosy
During the colder months I am all about getting cosy, curling up in duvets, multiple fluffy blankets and a good candle, it definitely makes me super happy. Getting cosy and super toasty can definitely change my mood, especially after a long day where nothing seems to have gone right, just putting a box set on, curling up in a duvet and burning gorgeous candles is heavenly.
5. Getting Outside
I’ve been making more of a conscious effort to go outside lately, I’m not a massive fan of getting cold, but getting outside really helps my state of mind, it helps give me clarity, it is so calming and fresh air is always good for the soul. I am so lucky that near my house there are some gorgeous walking spots, English Heritage sites and National Trust sites, so being able to get out and walk in these beautiful areas makes the world of difference to me.
I’m definitely making more of an effort to look after myself at the moment, especially when it comes to self care. During the colder months you really do need to take care of yourself a bit more, especially with the light drawing in, shorter days, coming home in the dark, it is so important to take care of yourself.

Always good to practice self care, especially during the colder months. However, I don’t have any colder month specific self care practices, yet
I’m loving your recommendations, my mood always dips after Christmas so I need to stay on top of it this year – definitely! 🙂

I love cosy blanket days in the colder months, but getting outside and having some fresh air is still a must. Learning to say no is such an important one on general but especially so in the colder months if you need some time to rest or aren’t doing as well with less daylight x

This time of year sucks for me as my chronic illnesses are always at their worst and the gloomy weather triggers my depression – hello S.A.D. So, my self-care is pretty much ‘do whatever puts a smile on my face’. Usually, that means, getting cosy & binging TV Shows I’ve not yet seen or re-watching my favourite ones – a nod to Grey’s Anatomy! 😀
It’s so important though to practice self-care though and these are some really good suggestion! 😀

Great suggestions! My favourite thing to do during the colder months is simply to get out and go for walks or hikes on local trails with our dogs. It lets me step away from the stress of everything going on around me and just enjoy the great outdoors with our ‘pack’.
Loved this post, I agree it’s important to partake in self-care during the colder months. I’ve recently got into doing yoga, it has various benefits, that’s one way I’ve been looking after myself. Thank you for sharing your tips dear.

I have been trying to go outside and get more fresh air recently xx
Great strategies. Getting outside – fresh air is a great one. It’s easy to hunker down in the winter but a little fresh air can do wonders.
I’m the same I’m terrible at self-care but I’m trying so much harder these days to try and incorporate it. I love getting cosy and putting a film or tv series on. Great post. Thankyou for writing this 💗

Where I live, it’s mostly hot daily. When it does get cold, I love staying in and binge watching. I love learning to say no one. I definitely need to practice that.
I’m certainly finding the value in saying, ‘no’ because it really leaves you feeling more in control and taken advantage of by other people even family members. I want to invest time in practicing yoga, I hear it’s a great way to become one with your body.
