6 Things That Have Become Important To Me

Hi, hello, bonjour. The last month has been a bit of a self discovery mission for me, everything has change, for the better if I’m honest, it’s been an exciting ride and I’d like to think I’m adapting to change very well – even though I’m not that great with it. My upload schedule has completely changed, I’m not uploading 3 times a week and social media posts have been pretty much non-existent, but I am still around, even though I don’t post as much, I’m trying to get back into a routine. I can’t promise, but I’m trying, so that counts.

Finding time to post, spend time with my husband, write, be a fully grown adult, eat, get 8 hours of sleep, have a self care routine, have family time, look after my rabbit and everything else in between has been tough if I’m honest. Remind me why we wanted to grow up so fast?

Anyway during the last month, I’ve realised a lot of things & learned a lot.

Sometimes, you just need a hug.

Ever had one of those days where you’re just so tired, exhaustion hits, you’re like an emotional teapot about to boil over and you’ve managed to overthink everything in the known universe? Sometimes you just need a hug to make it all better. From a pet, from a loved one, a friend, basically anything that can cuddle you and give you some comfort, I’m ready for.

Sometimes you need to bail on plans and that is okay.

Of a weekend Paul and I sometimes make plans to spend time together, whether it is going to the cinema, going out for some coffee or just go out for some dinner. Plans are great and all, but sometimes  you just need a day where you put your phone on mute, make some pizza, have a cake and ignore the world.

Bailing on plans is sometimes necessary, just for your own sanity and well being. Don’t feel bad about cancelling, we all need to sometimes.

Yoga

I genuinely can’t tell you how much yoga has helped me lately. I used to do it on a regular basis, every day I would practice a yoga routine for about an hour and it helped me so much, especially on bad days, however since going back into full time work making sure I get a decent amount of sleep has been something I’ve worked on more. Doing yoga really helps me to relax and centre me, I’ve noticed a massive difference in my sleep too. I like my sleep.

Expressing myself

Normally I’m the kind of person that supresses everything that I’m feeling, say I’m absolutely fine and then about 2 weeks later I burst into tears because it is basically eating away at my heart and I genuinely can’t deal with it. However, now that I have less time to overthink every situation for about 1000 different angles, I’m expressing myself more. Talking about what I’m feeling, even writing it down if I need to, it’s helping me if I’m honest and I don’t feel like there is a 10 tonne weight on my shoulders every minute of everyday.

Spending time away from social media

Like I said I haven’t been that busy on social media lately, not because I don’t want to be on here anymore, but because I am shattered. By the time I get home, I genuinely want to spend time with my rabbit, eat my food and cuddle up with my husband and binge watch Netflix. That is my jam right now. Spending time away from social media has been a good thing for me, because I feel like I post what I want to post, I don’t feel the need to be online 24/7 and I can have genuine conversations with the people that I love on there. I can engage with people that I want to engage with, and it has made me fall back in love with being on social media again. Sometimes you just need some time away to process, regroup and then come back. I’m not saying I’m going to be posting all the time, but I’m going to try and be around a little bit more at least.

That you don’t always have to be productive

Being productive is great and all, but you don’t have to be productive all the time. Sometimes the best thing you can do is chill out, stick Netflix on and possibly take multiple naps in the process. I am the kind of person that tries to get as much done as physically possible, mainly because my theory behind it all is, if I can lots done, I can chill out later. But sometimes it just genuinely isn’t happening and that is okay. Do what is good for your soul in my opinion.

  • I’m so happy that you seemed to be settled and into a routine now, things can always get so mixed up between life and relationships and blogging and finding time to juggle everything can be so stressful. Thank you so much for being so open and honest and sharing this blog post darling, sending you all of the love in the world. Stay strong! 🌻💜

Spending time away from social media is perfectly okay – I’m just not that great at it! x

  • Boxnip says:

I think for me, learning to listen to my body has become important to me. To not ignore the signs when I need to take a nap or I need extra pain meds etc. I would always ignore it before and just struggle through. 🙂

I’ve recently have gotten into yoga having not tried it before thinking I wasn’t flexible enough but I’m surprised how much it has helped me! I’m so glad to hear that you are trying to get back into your routine xx

I need a hug pretty much everyday! It can be from my boyfriend, my mum, my dog, after a long day at uni I just always need a hug. I really needed to read that second one so thank you, I bail out of plans a lot! I would love to get into yoga i just never find the time unfortunately! I have been spending less time on social media recently and it does feel really good! Great post! Having a good cup of tea is important to me because it always makes me feel better haha! xx

I so agree with you on everything that you’ve listed here. Lately getting away from social media has been the most important thing for me.

Keep up the good work! x

Ooh I needed this right now – I’ve been struggling for about a month now but think I’ve kind of reached a burn out point where I’m not expressing things and I certainly am trying to be way more productive than I need to be with working full-time. This feels like a wake-up call that came at the right time, making me think about it. It’s great that you can identify what is important and hopefully that will help you find a centre point.

  • I need a hug now.

  • Kayla says:

I loved reading this post Amie, I’ve come home from work pretty much everyday the past week just in need of a hug! It’s been a hectic, I’ve bailed on plans with friends purely because I just needed a long lie in the bath and to shut the world out!

  • Very well-written. I struggle with anxiety and yoga was something that was suggested to me recently. I think I need to add it to my list of important things, as well 🙂

  • Lolly Bee says:

Knowing when to quit is important to me. I’ve learned that sometimes it’s better to let go than hold on to something that’s no good for you. Recently it’s been about accepting that every day doesn’t have to be a productive one. It’s ok to take a break and not kick yourself for all the things you “should be doing”.

This is such a gorgeous post, wifey!! There are days when I just can’t face social media and the aspect of ‘perfection’ so staying away from it is a great idea. I really want to get into yoga but I never know if I’m doing it right! Teach me?

Oh, and you’re very important to me! <3

I love the vibes from this post. Sometimes, we can get super busy and we need some time to relax a bit. YESS on that hug. We might not need to talk things out but to feel some physical comfort. I totally agree about spending time away from social media. We don’t need to always be kept up to date. Thanks for sharing this!

Such an uplifting post and I agree with all 6 of these things! Especially the last point. I think our generation stresses so much on being busy that we forget it’s okay to take a break and enjoy the little things around. And 1000 times yes to yoga! lol…great food for thought! ❤️

  • all of these i realllly agree with. A hug from my man is always better than any kind of painkiller for me! i am taking more and more time away from social media and at first i would punish myself for it for negleting my blog and my brand but my brain thanks me for it!

Yoga has become such a big thing for me lately too 🙂 That and canceling plans because I just don’t feel up to it! It makes things so much better when I don’t have to feel bad for looking after myself.

This is such a lovely post. Glad to know you’re feeling good at the moment 🙂 I’ve just recently tried yoga for the first time and really enjoyed it. Meditation is also something I try to do as much as I can to make sure I have some relaxation time in a day. You can never beat a good hug
