Learning To Care Less & Do What I Want

Now I’ve been thinking a lot lately and while I’m currently writing this after taking some blog photos with my husband, and he gave me a wake up call. I honestly care way too much about what people think of me, when you share so much of your life on social media, you know you’re up for scrutiny regardless. Now my husband is one of the most incredible people on the planet, he takes all my blog photos without fail, and does an amazing job, I couldn’t be more grateful, but he gave me the biggest wake up call.

We took about 30 photos, and I hated every single one. I didn’t like the way I looked in the photos, I think the word hate was actually thrown around.

I just wasn’t feeling the way that they had turned out. I mean I felt as confident as possible when Paul was taking them, but when the photos came out, I honestly looked at thought I can’t put those online. What if people judge me? What if this and what if that? It’s like that Pocahontas 2 quote from Grandmother Willow “What if the sky turns to fire and your nose falls off?”

You could bet your bottom dollar that everything was going through my head and it didn’t matter how many times Paul would say you look amazing, I just didn’t believe it. It’s not his fault bless him, he is the most amazing man, it’s just mind playing tricks on me when it comes to the photo.

Paul sat me down and said, why do you care so much about what others think of you? The people who criticise you, are probably people that don’t even know you, don’t know your story, and certainly don’t know where you’re coming from.

It felt like I had been slapped in the face with the truth.

He is so right! I mean seriously he couldn’t have put it better could he? They say the truth hurts but he was so honest.

It is so exhausting caring about what others think, you overthink every situation and I’m kind of at that point where I’ve had enough.

Blogging has given me so much, I should share what I want, not have to basically talk myself into posting something because people will judge me. That shouldn’t be how it works anymore I should be posting what I want.

I’ve come to the decision that I’m going to make small steps in the right direction to care less and do more of what I want. I mean seriously social media is supposed to be fun, not perfect, just be yourself. If you’re in love with a photo you’ve taken and you just want to share it with the world do it, always do what you want, enjoy every moment and do your thing!

I still haven’t shared those photos on social media, I’m going to give it a bit of time before I share them, not just because I don’t want to share them yet, but also I need to brighten them up so I have to find some photo editing time from the hours in the day I don’t have enough of.

Overall care less about what others think of you, and do more of what makes you happy, because life is too short to care what people think.

Are you like me? Do you over think every situation? Let me know in the comments!

Thank you so much angel, I really appreciate it! xxx

  • You sound so much like me. In fact, my boyfriend and I were looking through some old photos of holidays from last year and the year before last night and every one of me he clicked on, I found myself going “ugh”. With me, it’s not so much that I care what other people think, it’s my own damaged relationship with my body and the way I look. But you totally do NOT need to bother yourself with what others think xxx

I’m working so hard on the relationship with myself, but it is one of the hardest thing I’ve ever done! I’m the worst for caring about what others think, I’m my own worst enemy! xxxx

  • Yes girl! This is so freeing!

  • It’s so good that you are starting to make steps in the right direction! It’s not always an easy path, but it will be worth it

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

Exactly, the right paths aren’t always the easiest, we’ve just got to go with it! xxxx

Yay for Paul laying down the realness! I was exactly the same with Dan when he was taking photos of me today – he was fab bless him and every photo I was like ‘ugh why is my face so gross’, ‘why are my boobs so weird’, ‘I look so lumpy in that one’ when actually I’m being my own worst critic! But at the same time it’s a scary thing putting yourself out there on the internet in the way that you do with blogging so these feelings are natural in a way! xo

Thank gosh we have lovely people by our sides. I know what you mean, it is hard, but I think because we are in our bodies all the time we have a different view of ourselves! xxx

I’m such an overthinker and don’t post photos of myself for precisely that reason. I hope to have more confidence soon!

This is a really beautiful post, and so relatable. I try so often to take photos for social media and just to update the blog, but so often they’re just deleted and I move on, looking for something else to do. It’s hard to look at those photos and see every single little flaw when in reality, most others wouldn’t even notice them. This was so inspirational. Great post!

Thank you so much angel! I really appreciate it! I think we all end up picking flaws in ourselves, because that is just what we do, but we need to be gentle with ourselves! xxxx

  • Beatrice says:

Oh I can definitely relate to this! I spend too much time thinking about how to make everything perfect. I think I’ve gotten much better at it, though, especially in the realm of taking photos of myself. It’s refreshing to see the progress I’ve made. Your post really inspired me and I’m proud of you for taking the steps towards where you want to be!

Thank you so much my angel, I really appreciate it! This comment means the world! xxxx

  • Great post! It’s hard to find out what you want in terms or caring, in my opinion. Doing what you want is very important, yet it can be very difficult. Wish you all the best 🙂

I love this post. It’s so easy to bash ourselves and put ourselves down. I wrote a blog post recently which was my year in the words of Ariana Grande and this year I also want to improve my relationship with myself

Improving your relationship with yourself is so hard but it is so worth it in the long run! You’ve got this my lovely! xxxx
