My Love Hate Relationship With The Internet

Now we all know that I’m an internet addict, but being a blogger you’d expect me to love it right? Well, I won’t hide it, I have a love hate relationship with the internet. It can do such amazing things for us, we can get amazing deals on our favourite things at just a touch of a button, we can talk to family on the other side of the globe, it’s an amazing invention. But there are downsides to it. Not everything on the internet is peachy keen jelly bean.

So I guess you’re wondering why I have such a love/hate relationship with the internet? I mean it isn’t difficult to see why sometimes. All you have to do is go on Facebook or Twitter and see negative comments about mental health or about people you care about and that is enough to turn around and say what is this world coming to.

The thing is with the internet we just can’t stop scrolling, I mean if you look at the amount of hours we spend just aimlessly scrolling through social media or adding things to our basket wish list that we probably should buy till pay day, how much time do you think we will have actually wasted?

If I thought about the amount of time I could have been productive or the amount of episodes of Friends (because that is productive) that I could have watched, it puts it all into perspective for me.

It’s not all about the time I have wasted just scrolling through Instagram just to see photo’s that were posted 6 days ago, it’s about the other things that are on there. The derogatory comments, the indirect tweets that can leave you feeling like everything is about you. It probably isn’t and has absolutely nothing to do with you but it is enough to send your anxiety through the roof.

It’s not all bad though is it?

Through blogging I have had an amazing chance to meet people I would never have met before, including all my incredible blogging family. I honestly don’t know what I would do without them. They make the internet such an amazing place, a more creative place and not only that it can seem like a less lonely world. Especially when you’re struggling through a rough time, knowing that you’re not alone even through blog posts can really help.

There’s also a chance to see cute cat meme’s I mean who doesn’t love a good grumpy cat meme? I tend to send them constantly, mainly because they’re so accurate, it would be rude not to send it!

The internet is an amazing place, do not get me wrong, and I’m so happy that I have access to it, but I think my love hate relationship with the internet will probably continue till the end of time. I’m learning to focus on the good parts of the internet, being creative, being supportive and attempting to make the internet an amazing place to be.

Do you have a love hate relationship with the internet? Let me know in the comments!

I love being active on social media and interacting with people but from a bloggers perspective, I feel like I HAVE to be on social media all the time – I think it’s a pressure I put on myself but so much of our success relies on it! I need to start being okay with taking a break as and when I need one! xo

I am the same angel, lately I’ve taken a step back from social media, and I think that I needed it to be honest! Social media can leave us feeling under pressure! xxxx

  • I wrote a post a few months ago all about my problem with the internet as well. Like you, I agree there are so many good things about it. Blogging, working with brands, opportunities, meeting likeminded people but I think we can all have our niggles with it. Personally, mine stem from severe low self esteem about the way I look to the point where I have emotional breakdowns when seeing other people’s photos sometimes. And they’re everywhere you look; the perfect photo, with the perfect hair and make up, the perfect setting. I compare a LOT and it’s not healthy but something I’m working on! xxx

Oh angel, you’re amazing just the way you are, you’re beautiful inside and out! I know that it is easy for me to say, but you’re incredible just the way you are! xxxx

I do think this generation has an internet problem. Although the internet can really help us, it really does help me, my blogging is an outlet for me. I really think i can make some people spiral downward. It can be a dark and horrible place.

I totally agree angel, I think it is so important to make the internet a better place too! xxxx

I think the internet can be an awful place sometimes and I definitely feel like I need to take a step back now and then! Xx

I totally know what you mean angel, when it gets so bad it’s important to do what is best for you! xxxx

  • Rosie says:

I am 100A% the same! I love it for blogging and the amazing friends I’ve made but it defo has a much darker side. I often have an impromptu break from my phone which helps!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I’ve done the same recently to be honest, I needed a break away and haven’t been tweeting much to be honest! xxxx

  • I personally experienced some bullying on the internet from some bloggers I thought were my friends so it’s really knocked my confidence about being online and talking to people. I can completely understand where you’re coming from with this blog post babe. Thank you for sharing something so important and well-written. 🌸💜✨

    With love, Alisha Valerie. x

Oh my gosh! We are SO on the same page! Onbiously, I love getting the change to blog, meet people from around the world, and have the convenience of the online world, but sometimes I wish it was the 70s and we could just get rid of all the technology and live simpler lives!

    • amiecadwallader@outlook.com says:

I swear it was much easier back when we didn’t have the internet right at her fingertips! xxxx

I’m with you on this – there are so many great things about the internet, but it definitely has it downsides and I don’t always love it either!

I love the internet for all the opportunities it can bring, but also hate it for the trolls and horrible bullying. But the good always outweighs the bad!
