I am almost half way through my twenties, honestly I’m trying to figure out why life just seems to be passing me by, but do you know what, I’m just gonna ride with it now. I don’t have a bloody time machine or anything so I’m riding with it and doing my own thing and seeing where things go.
Looking back though, especially over the last few years, I see not only how much I have changed but what the last few years has taught me, especially going through my mental health struggle. So what have I learned?
1. Friendships are hard work
I have such an amazing group of friends, I mean they’re absolutely fabulous, however keeping friendships is hard work. Remember when we saw each other everyday at school, it was like BFF’s forever, we all grow up, get married, have jobs, commitments and you don’t end up speaking for a while. Yeah friendships are hard.
2. You will make mistakes
Oh lordy I can’t even count on my hand how many times I’ve made a mistake just in the last few weeks, it’s natural. You’ll screw up but do you know what your mistakes don’t define you as a person. You will learn from it and grow as a person.
3. Don’t dress to make other’s happy
I tweeted not so long ago about the last time I wore stripes, someone told me about the stripes making me look bigger, but do you know what you wear what you want, wear what you feel comfortable in and screw what anyone else thinks.
4. Skincare is your friend
Oh gosh the importance of skincare in my day is literally so high. When I have a regular routine with my skin it makes a massive difference. If I miss like a few days, I notice my skin goes to crap. Skincare is your friend and worth the effort.
5. Don’t get hung up on numbers
When I’m buying clothes it can be so hard with the whole sizing issue. One shop I can be a size 16 and another a size 20. Consistent sizing would be fab thanks.
6. You’ll remember more song lyrics than your actual to do list
Currently I’m listening to a 00s playlist, probably not the best thing for me to listen to right now because I’ve spent more time singing along than actual writing. At one point I started writing song lyrics, oops. When I’m going out though, I end up listening to my music, dancing along and if I don’t write things down, I forget it. My bad.
7. The idea of saving money and actually doing it are 2 totally different things
Anyone who is anyone will understand this. With Christmas slowly approaching the idea of saving money will probably be non existent to be honest. However throughout the year anything could happen, washing machine breaking, birthday’s, you name it, it happens. Saving money is beyond hard.
8. Lists save your life
I spoke above about the fact that if I don’t write it down I will forget it. Trust me I will. if I don’t write a list of food I need but instead by all the cute homeware stuff because it’s apparently necessary. Well it is, but you know what I mean.
9. Adventure often
There is nothing better than a good adventure, experiencing new things, seeing new things and just having fun and being free. Such an amazing feeling.
10. Don’t take life too seriously
I’m a pretty serious person, I try to be a bit more light and airy about life but do you know what? Life is way too short to take it too seriously, laugh, joke be happy and be merry.
11. You can prove everyone wrong and achieve your dreams
People will always tell you that you can’t do certain things, you will never be able to achieve, but guess what buttercup? You can achieve anything you put your mind to. Prove them wrong, do your best and give your dreams everything.
12. Never apologise for being you
You are an incredible human, you have a big heart, don’t ever feel like you have to be anything less than yourself. Have courage and be kind. There is enough darkness in this world, we need more kind people in this world.
