Diet Culture And Refusing To Change My Body

Diet culture has been on us since the beginning of January, however with the weather slowly warming up people are turning around and thinking oooh maybe I need to go on a diet, maybe I need to stop eating certain food groups or certain things. I’ve always felt the pressure when it comes to my body & the way I look, I mean what person hasn’t? I’m going to be talking about diet culture and refusing to change my body, I will not conform to pressure just because an industry says so.

As someone who has tried every diet out there, I’m refusing to let them get to me anymore. You see all these diet plan adverts, and I sit there and worry about the amount of people who buy into them.

Dieting took such a toll on me, I ended up hating my body more, and to be quite honest didn’t treat my body with the respect it deserves.

I am plus size, I’m not ashamed of it, if anything I’m proud. I’ve said in previous posts that automatically if you’re plus size people think you’re unhealthy and that is 100% not the case. I eat ridiculously healthy, I workout, I like the occasional cake or bit of chocolate – or in my case over the weekend it was an Easter egg, but I’m happy.

The idea that people would cut out certain food groups because they apparently make you fat is awful. Food is necessary for your body, I’m pretty sure that my body is made up of carbs, I’m not going to turn down pasta, or rice, or anything like that. They’re delicious!

When people say I’m getting beach body ready, I sit there and think, you’re already beach body ready, you have a body, you’re ready for the beach. It doesn’t matter if you have lumps, bumps, stretch marks, or anything like that, you’re beautiful! Rock your body.

You don’t need fad diets, you don’t need people telling you that you need to be a certain size, you don’t need people telling you that your body is wrong. There is no wrong way to have a body. When it comes to your body, as long as you are happy, that is all that matters. It shouldn’t matter what anyone else thinks.

When it comes to your body do what makes you happy. I refuse to conform to the fad diets that are out there that claim that you will lose so much weight, but it’s more important that you eat enough fruit and veg, make sure your body is getting all the nutrients it needs, and is looked after.

Be healthy, be happy, do what you want, these are more important than any fad diet. At the end of the day, you only get one body, treat it well. Don’t deny yourself anything, have things in moderation and remember that you’re beautiful inside and out.

If you want to lose weight, that is fab but it is a personal choice, but please don’t do any fad diets, don’t do it so you will look good in a swimming costume – you will look amazing regardless, do it the healthy way, eating healthy choice, everything in moderation and do it for the right reasons.

yes I totally agree diet culture is so toxic. it’s one thing to eat healthy and maintain a healthy lifestyle, but dieting is only about restricting which isn’t productive longterm. once I accepted this I was so much better off, and I ended up losing a little bit of weight just from being happier and eating regular, balanced meals

It is so damaging, I agree, if you want to lose weight balanced meals is the way to go, and don’t restrict yourself!xxxx

  • Ugh, fad diets. I hate them. The companies who do them just pry on our insecurities and make us feel bad, all for them to make more money. It’s awful. Nobody needs a fad diet. I’m trying to lose a little bit of weight at the moment but all I’m doing is exercising a little more. You’re gorgeous as you are!

I totally agree angel, diets are so damaging on so many aspects of our lives, I am just doing what is best for me, balanced diets, regular workouts and the occasional treat. Do what is best for you angel! xxxx

Good on you! I really hate the word “diet”. Lifestyle changes are what some people need to do but diets as you say tend to be fads. I believe they can lead to eating disorders. “I can eat this but I can’t eat that.” Eat what you like, just in moderation. We all have the common sense to know eating only bread and chocolate isn’t healthy but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy bread and chocolate at all.

I agree angel, it’s all about moderation, you don’t need to cut food groups out, just be aware of what you’re eating and don’t restrict yourself! xxxx

  • I really adore this blog post babe, and I adore you. I love how confident you are in your own skin and wish other people would be the same. You’re setting such an awesome example to the blogging community. Love you! 🌸✨

Yeah diet culture is awful, I got sucked in at one point and I was just never happy with my weight, I am far happier at a slightly heavier weight then I ever was when I was dieting. This is such a brave post to write, great to spread positive words 🙂

It is so important to do what is best for you, as long as you’re healthy and happy, that is all that matters. I feel like for me, it is hard being plus size because people automatically have opinions on you! But I refuse to go on a diet, I just want to do what is best for me! xxxx

YASSSSSS AMIE! I’ve been through every fad diet under the sun – my relationship with food was so dangerously unhealthy at one point that my hair was falling out in clumps and I was lethargic and sick all the time – it was a really dark time for me. Recently I’ve been trying to make more healthy choices and exercise more, but I still get comments – to a point where I’ve been told that I need to cut down on my portion sizes and cut out carbs and I might look better – psssh! I ain’t cutting out pasta for nobody! You’re so right, everything in moderation, ‘getting skinny’ isn’t worth affecting your mental health xo

I’m trying to lose weight for me, and not anyone else. I’m not doing a fad diet or anything, but just trying to eat a bit healthier.
