Social media has definitely taught me a hell of a lot, through blogging, my friends on social media and just in general but it is has definitely been a learning curve. Now social media is such an incredible outlet, I also love social media because I have found so many amazing bloggers who continue to inspire me on a regular basis, but it has also taught me so much about the person that I am and how to use it as an incredible outlet for myself.
1. Haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate
I have definitely had my fair share of hate online, whether it be about my size, sharing my stories, you name it, I have received it online. There is always going to be one person who feels the need to try to bring you down, but do you know what they’re not worth it. You’re strong as hell and these people will always find something to pick at online, but you’re stronger!
2. You need a thick skin
Following on from the first thing I’ve learned is when you are getting hate left and right, you need a thick skin, and I’m not even joking. Trolls will always find a reason to pull you down, don’t let their words impact upon you. Don’t let them stop you from posting what you want and doing your thing, you’re fab.
3. Meeting people on social media helps my anxiety
To be honest meeting people in person is honestly something that would cripple my anxiety. I have been to a few events, and honestly they have all been so amazing but the anxiety that I feel before hand always makes me want to cancel and sometimes I can’t even breathe. I manage to push through sometimes, others it is a struggle!
4.It’s such a good emotional outlet
Sharing thoughts, feelings and emotions on social media can really help, I’m pretty sure you’re probably not the other person that is feeling certain feelings online. It could be that you feel alone, you feel lost, any of those things but social media can help to connect with others to help those feelings.
5. You can make such good friends
Honestly I have met so many amazing friends through social media, and they’re people I can rely on though thick and thin. Regardless of whether they’re online or not, if a friendship has been built that is something so special.
6. Not everything is like real life
I know that is probably a weird one, but on Instagram it is just a snapshot of life, it doesn’t always show the behind the scenes or what else is going on. Don’t think that social media tells an entire story, it doesn’t.
7. There can be a lot of pressure on influencers
Honestly I always feel like there is pressure to stay up to date, stay on trend and to increase my following. I really wanted to hit 10k by the end of the year, but do you know what, I’m at that point in my blogging life where I’m just grateful for every follower that decides to follow me.
8. You can get so many amazing opportunities through it
Honestly I am beyond grateful for every opportunity that has come my way! Social media is definitely an amazing way for brands to find you, and see what you do, share your posts, do you thing and work hard!
9. Imperfection is important
I have shared many a post where the lighting is a bit much, a little over exposed, you name it, but that is a good thing. You don’t always have to be perfect, you’re talented and fabulous, and do you know what? Show people those photos, not everyone gets it right every time!
10. Always be you
I say this in many posts to be honest, but on social media, don’t try to be someone you’re not, be you, do what makes you and show people the incredible person that you are!
What are some of the things that social media has taught you? Let me know in the comments!

OMG YES! These are all so true! Especially the first two! And the one about it making anxiety worse! x
It is so hard, but I’m definitely working so hard to give myself a bit of a break from social media! xxxx
I totally agree with all of these and I have certainly made some amazing friends through social media! Xx
I totally agree, I can’t imagine my life without my blogging friends, including you my lovely! xxxx
The first two are SO true! I don’t think I ever prepared myself for how thick skinned you need to be to put tweets and blogs online. It sometimes feels like there’s always someone just waiting to pick holes in whatever you do! Social media can be the worst for confidence!
You have to be so thick skinned honestly! But there are also so many positives with social media too! xxxx
well said xo
