Oh blogging is something that I am beyond passionate about, it has become something that is so important to me and something that makes me appreciate the journey that I have been on. However what I have seen over my journey, not from close friends but some people over the internet believe that blogging is easy. Trust me it is one of the hardest things you will ever do, as there are a variety of different things that contribute to blogging, it’s not all about getting free stuff.
Blogging for myself and most people is not about getting free things, it is about sharing a voice on things that are important to us, things we love, things we enjoy and things we want to share with others. My main reason for starting my blog was because sharing my voice really helped my mental health. When my blog grew and became more popular brands wanted to talk to me more and really took an interest, that was literally a bonus, not the reason. I have been so lucky with the collaborations that I have had over the last 2 years, but it is an added bonus getting to work with some incredible people!
So I thought it would be a good idea to write a letter to the people who think blogging is all about free stuff.
To the people who think blogging is an easy thing to do,
Blogging is hard. End of.
Whether it is the hours taking photos of products, or doing photos for upcoming blog posts, getting that light perfect without it going too dark and making sure everything is visible.
Not only that you have to take into account things like SEO. Now if you’re a blogger or in PR or a social media wizard like so many people I know, you will understand what I mean with SEO. When I started 2 years ago I had no bloody idea what SEO was, nor did I know what it was supposed to do. But as the years have gone on, I’ve managed to understanding of what is and also how important it is for my blog. SEO is all about the traffic that gets driven to your site and the quality and where it gets ranked on Google and other search engines. Using the right keywords is beyond crucial and not only that making sure that you use the right ones for your website.
Then there is the whole promotional aspect, making sure you promote on all the platforms that you use, understand what platforms work best for you and when the right times are to post. there are so many different things to take into consideration and I think people forget that. I’ve spent hours and hours making sure I have enough tweets scheduled so people know that I have a new blog post and that my blog is still up and running.
So when people say oh it’s easy there’s hours and hours of work that can go into just one post, we don’t always get paid or compensated for our hard work, but it’s not all about that, we do it because we enjoy it and because we want to share our voices with others.
Blogging is such a rewarding thing for me, it brings so much happiness to my life and I’ve met some of the best people through it, but don’t dismiss all our hard work. 1 it’s not fair on us, the people who work so damn hard to create amazing content, 2 it’s a lot of fun and 3 it isn’t all about the free stuff.
I don’t know where my life would be without blogging but I definitely feel like there would be a massive hole in my life.
