Things I Wish I Knew During My Teens

Teenage years were some of the most difficult years of my life but do you know what, those years still hold some of the best memories I could ever wish for. Those years are filled with emotions, whether it was laughter, tears, anger you name it, it was something that we all went through and we can all relate to even if it is something you’re currently going through! I know that during my teenage years I was literally a slave to my emotions and let’s be honest in some ways I wish I had learned but in reality in some ways I honestly haven’t. What are the things that I wish I knew when I was in my teens? Wanna know? Well of course you do!

One. Your teen years are hard – Let’s be honest they might be some of the best years of your life but they are hard. Between falling in love, getting your heart broken, hormones, anger, friendships and juggling school they can be so tough.

Two. Your feelings are valid – Being a teenager you’re in between that age of being an adult and being a child and that is one of the most awkward places to be, people tell you that you’re not an adult, you’re a child when you’re not and you’re being expected to grow up. When someone tells you that what you’re feeling you’re too young to be feeling, they’re wrong.

Three. There are people to support you – I know sometimes you might end up feeling really alone, lost or even that no one could ever feel the way that you do, but there are so many people around you who are willing to pick you up when you fall.

Four. It gets better – It might not seem like it at the time and it might feel like it is never going to end but I promise you that it will, it might take time but do you know what positive steps forward helps.

Five. Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness – This is something I am still learning, unfortunately I’m the type of person that has way too much pride, but do you know what we get by with a little help from our friends (tell me you sung that like I di) and that is what makes life better.

Six. Life is a rollercoaster – We all have our fair share of ups and downs through this fab rollercoaster we call life, but do you know what when life is good it is amazing, and when it is absolutely shocking we have the right people around us to support us.

I completely agree with all these points especially ‘It Gets Better’. I remember thinking when I was 13 or 14 how much I hated everything that was going on in my life – now it’s almost like it never happened. This post has definitely inspired me! X

Number 5 is something that I still struggle with sometimes! I think it actually takes strength to ask for help when we need it. It can be really hard to admit when we’re having difficulty. I really hated my teen years and don’t have many fond memories, but I’m hoping that I can help my children through it being a little happier. Thanks for sharing this!
